I saw someone make a good point. All the theories about Agatha killing witches to try and save Nicky is just trying to justify her actions because people want to think she's a better person than she is. Her mom might have sucked and her kid might have died, but neither one has anything to do with her killing witches. Like Nicky said, she could have just joined a coven and lived peacefully, every witch we see was trying to help her and her kid.

She does it because she enjoys it. She likes absorbing their power. As Jen said, she's a serial killer. There are people she gets attached to like Nicky, Rio, and Billy, but she is ultimately self-serving.

i am glad they left this part of her unredeemed she is evil but a chaotic evil who sometimes does good things for people she grew to care otherwise she is a monster in most times

So when did Agatha actually have the Darkhold? The rumor was that she traded her son for it, but that ended up being a lie, and it's never actually mentioned in her backstory.

So I'm curious when she actually got it. I'm guessing it has to do with her relationship with Rio more than anything, so maybe she used it before she even had Nicholas?

Agatha had the Darkhold during WandaVision. I don't think it's particularly relevant when/how she got it before then, only that it passed to Wanda and wound up corrupting her before being destroyed.

I still want to know who the fuck the guy in the library was that told Agatha every copy was destroyed. I didn't recognize him as any of the Westview residents. I know it's kind of a meme at this point, but... maybe he was legitimately Mephisto making his first uncredited appearance?

Wasn't he the mailman in the hex?

People can't accept the characters they like are bad people sometimes. Agatha is a villain, through and through.

It has some hefty requirements to understand. You need to have watched WandaVision and Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness first.

I think they were referring to WandaVision. You dont need to watch MoM to understand WandaVision.

Considering WandaVision came out first, that would make sense

I enjoyed the show, but stand by my criticism that the 1st half and 2nd half of the series felt like two completely different shows

I loved the show, though I have some nitpicks with the ending. There are two main things that bothered me, although admittedly, maybe I just didn't understand them.

1. So Agatha "tricked" Billy into giving his life to Death. Fine, I get that. But all Billy has to do is say is this what you did to Nickolas? And somehow that causes her to change her mind and give herself up? But why? As we saw in the flashback, this is nothing like the situation with Nicholas, as she did not "give him up" to Death. Death just took him. I don't see how/why she suddenly changed her mind and rescued Billy.

2. Why did Billy continuously trust Agatha? Numerous times she has shown him she is a cold killer but he keeps latching on to her. She was about to get killed by Death and he rescues her and gives her some of his power. Fine, he saved her life like she saved his. But why give her her powers back? She literally killed Alice by the same method. And then she comes back as a ghost, he understandably tries to banish her since she had tricked him earlier. She just shows fear and suddenly he not only spares her, but Tema up with her on a new adventure? I feel their relationship felt rather forced, or at least kept flip flopping from hating each other to trusting each other with very little nuance in between. Felt like whiplash. Also, on a separate point, why did she come back as a ghost? Since when are ghosts a thing in Marvel? Was that established before this? Can anyone just choose to be a ghost after death?

Not to discredit the show, as I think the second half of the show was very strong and retroactively made the first half much better with the twist (where admittedly the first half just felt random to me with the trials and the costumes, but I was pleasantly surprised).
Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy.
Obviously it'll depend on if they do this, but I think Agatha might have been telling the truth when she said she took a calculated risk. Billy has already twice demonstrated that he can put a spirit in someone else's body. Agatha presumably knew she could come back as a ghost if she wanted to. There's a solid chance Billy could put Agatha's spirit in a new body and she likes him well enough to give it a try. Mentioning Nicky just reminded her of that.

I think Billy is naive and self-hating enough that the good he does see in Agatha makes him think he can bring her around or at least have her be useful to him. In any case, she slapped the one personal item she had out of his hand and then ghosted it, so he couldn't keep trying the banishment regardless.

Ghosts were established in episode five. Even if you assume that was an illusion created by the Road, Rio says she hates ghosts which implies they do exist. She also takes Evanora seriously enough that she might have been real.

My wife just did this with the penultimate episode. Would not stop talking the whole way through. Im tempted to just watch the finale without her so I can actually enjoy it.

My wife does this all the time. I'm watching a show, she's on her phone with ear buds in, and any time she sees something funny or interesting, she pipes in and I have to keep pausing and rewinding the show

My son is really good about not getting offended when I rewind, hes super good natured but yeah its the worst sometimes.
I like that this mini franchise has carved its own little niche. Theres a few girls i know that dont watch the mcu consistently or at all but did watch wandavision and this.

My girlfriend hasnt watched any project that connects to this and loved it.

Another girl I know watched wandavision and this and loved both but was wondering what happened to wanda as she didnt watch multiverse of madness
Saw the episode where Billy was in a car accident. Don't understand who Tommy . is that he's looking for. Says it's his brother but I didn't see he had one in car accident. Maybe I need to watch it again?

WandaVision helps explains this, but the show itself will reveal more details later on. I do recommend you watch WandaVision if you like this show. It has a similar vibe (minus the Halloween stuff).

Yeah this is exactly why I typically wont watch new episodes of shows or movies I havent seen yet with other people

I just finished watching the show (started last Friday, really enjoyed watching one or two a day in a row instead of waiting week to week.

Also, I couldnt help but think of this when Agatha and Rio kissed :

Has it been greenlit for another season? Id hate to think it gets Acolyted but theres no doubt in my mind that Certain People were NOT happy with certain parts of the show
You know what I blame this on the breakdown of? Society.

Its not quite the same. Yes is it ideal to watch wandavision before agatha? Yes

Can you understand and have fun with agatha without wandavision? Yes

A lot of people dont want to do homework to watch the currently popular movie or show but liking the current thing could motivate them to go back and watch the older stuff.

For as long as the mcu is, I dont think i know anyone whose first mcu movie was iron man, most people went back and watched it

It's mostly enjoyable without WandaVision, but WandaVision sets up the big red dome thing you see, who Tommy and billy (and Wanda) are, Agatha's relationship to Wanda, etc.

I'm going to add that for the full story, you should also watch Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness after WandaVision.

I mean, sure. But plotwise, the only thing that movie adds is Wandas death . I can't think of anything else from that movie that directly affects the plot of Agatha All Along.
