It's the same social media junk but now with nobody relevant to follow
It's pretty much 2012-2014 era Twitter but slowly getting worse due to normies and dummies stumbling upon it.
Thanks for reading!

You need to use it more to get your algorithm working right.

It's just Twitter but with less nazis apparently.

Twitter but without a billionaire manchild going "*I* like Nazis, so show them to everyone"

They're still there, if you go out of your way to look at the political commentary circuit - but that's the main difference, *you* have to *look* for them, as opposed to a hodgepodge of algorithms going "people are interacting with this, blast it everywhere"

Anyhoo, bluesky's alright. It's still kind of in that nascent phase where people are figuring out how to get it to show what they're interested in. I wish the video parts worked better and that it had bookmarks, but those will probably come with time

I find it endlessly funny that it was apparently intended to be a crypto thing but all the tech bros got run off by NSFW artists
Why not go all in?

Better than X.

I like how it handles feeds.

Just wish there was a bigger goth presence.

(THEY/THEM)
Nah, its functionalities are lacking and it doesnt have much of a real community yet. If it ever becomes the next Twitter, itll probably end up as the same quality as pre-Musk Twitter, better than the current state of things but still not that great.
It's been fine so far. You can't eliminate toxicity completely from any internet communities, but at least this one has more optimism and less hard right grifters that make it into my feed.
...I think I'm done here...
If it doesn't require an account to lurk, then it's already better than Twitter

The problem with X is Elon owns it and messes with the algorithm and uses your data to elect Trump.
It's fine. A lot of good potential, but I think it will get there in time. Mostly just needs to grow it's userbase
I don't believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness.
it's not xitter.

that makes it good enough for me.

I just wish they'd add a verification system like the FB/(old, pre-Elon) Twitter checkmarks so I know which accounts are official. I like to follow game publishers and gaming news. I just googled it to see if it was already added without me knowing, but apparently they have a dns thing like if an account is @cnn.com, it's the legit CNN as opposed to @cnn.bsky.social. Still wish they'd have the checkmarks for a quick glance though.

The alternative is Threads, which is owned by Meta so screw that, and Mastodon. Mastodon would on paper be the better option for privacy and all that but IMO feels kinda like a messier Reddit.

it's like Twitter, but you don't get doxxed by Nazis if you post art with a trans flag in it.

(Yes. I saw someone who had literally this happen to them on Twitter on my Bluesky feed yesterday.)
Born to lose, live to win!
Is this some kind of Twitter for democrats i take it? Probably just a matter of time before centrists and Republicans invade it. And then it'll be no different than Twitter. Just stay off that crap altogether if you're looking to avoid toxicity.

Its early stages still. Not enough people and not fun to navigate for people to follow. Right now most of my feed is filled with the same liberal memes from the election results. I like seeing it but its all Im seeing too.

One of the neat features I like about Bluesky is that users can create and share feeds. For instance, there's a feed that consists only of gift links to paywalled articles.

https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:o4s55v3tsfph6whswxccpsia/feed/aaaixbb5liqbu

I have that pinned to the homepage and it's easy to get a bunch of content that isn't just from people I follow. If I want to get away from politics for a bit, there are feeds that only include soccer terms. Stuff like that makes it a more customizable experience compared to Twitter's algorithm.

Also the lack of Nazis and the culture of blocking rather than engaging with shitstirrers makes it a more pleasant thing from day to day.
Please don't be weird in my topics
Bluesky culture also encourages users to mute and block trolls instead of engaging with them. It even allows your quotes to be detached in order to prevent other users from dogpiling or dunking you.
Give it a few months and it'll become Twitter 2.0. with all the harassment, dogpiling, negativity, and people threatening to kill others over their taste in movies or games.

As someone who was once a very heavy Twitter user there is a difference between "I hate this but I can't stop using it" and "Fuck this shit, I'm out". That's the difference between pre-Musk Twitter and present Twitter. Bluesky hasn't even hit the first one yet. It's nice. It obviously won't last, but nothing ever does.

Yeah, I joined Twitter just a couple of years before Musk took over. There's toxic behavior that you can't get rid of in any platform or community, but the truly abhorrent shit just got unavoidable after he bought it.

It's... okay. A lot of people I follow are missing from there and it's also missing features like a gallery format in the Media tab so I still use Twitter instead.

The algorithm works a bit differently there, it seems to feed you stuff based on who you follow more than what you interact with, though interaction helps too. There was a moment where my timeline got flooded with art after I followed a few artists.

I'm glad people are enjoying it. We still need to be cautious, since you never know when these apps get bought out when they get popular enough.

oh weird, that hasn't happened to me yet

my discover feed is mostly just "gee twitter sure sucks" memes even though i'm following like, majority artist accounts for a specific game i like

i do like the feeds feature where it just gives you a specialized feed for whatever fandom/tag though, kinda reminds me of tumblr? tbh that might just be what i jump to (although i hate how you can't see post dates on there)

Bluesky is going to have difficulty replacing Twitter for breaking news and trends

It's the better alternative to X with the most userbase at the moment. I made an account there and I'm glad I stopped getting porn and nazi crap recommended to me. Like I thought there was something fucked about my search history or something until other people started mentioning the same thing. I think X's algorithm works very similiar to that of Youtube, they prioritize "engagement" over anything else so whatever can get more views and attention is going to show up on most people's stuff.

Someone suggested that either Bluesky admins or other users make accounts with RSS feeds so they can post any news that comes up. Would be better than just waiting for official accounts to pop up. Would have to be people with a lot of free time on their hands though.

The worst part about Twitter/X was that because people get paid for engagements, you'd just get people in third world countries just spamming "hi" on posts by big accounts such as the BBC, CNN, NASA etc.

And since they have a blue tick, they get seen first and so $0.0001 gets deposited in their account.

tbh i haven't actually had grifters get thrown onto my feed wholesale that i can really remember

the things in that realm that they show me is moreso like, useless transfem discourse on whether we should be shaming everyone who seems "weird" and random viral dunks on the grifters (which i don't like but they show me anyway)

Well, the Xbox account has officially migrated to Bluesky. That's a start, for Bluesky gaining popularity for big companies, anyway.

Well, browsing it for a few minutes I found it an improvement since I wasnt being bombarded by outrage farming engagement bait, Far right propaganda, Elon musks tweets that you really just cant ever seem to get rid off and god knows how many bots so I would say its an improvement
