am I the only one getting lost in this mf
I spend wayyy too much time thinking about Red Steel 2
Bet people are missing that yellow paint now.

Yellow paint is also in the game anyway and is canonical.

where would you get a map from?
I could see you, but I couldn't hear you You were holding your hat in the breeze Turning away from me In this moment you were stolen...
I agree that the game would be better if reas had Maps that opened up as you explored each area.

Its annoying to go back to reas and have to explore again.

These are ex-Ubisoft devs so maybe it can be a QoL update in the future

but most likely not
DI MOLTO!
It is great not having a map. Makes me pay attention. And the areas aren't complicated so shouldn't be getting lost.

I kinda hope they patch one in. Despite the growing reviews, this is a common touch point that all of them have said.
Stand out, fit in
I feel like I'm missing a ton of extra loot and cosmetics, but whatever.

Also I suck at this game.

Actually, it's not. Some complain, but many don't

People also complained about Soulsborne games not having maps.

Yeah, the lack of a map is my only gripe so far. I am directionally challenged; I need a map please lol

Someone draw me a map of Siren so I can see what you think a map in this game should look like

It's missed, but I get by well enough without one. The village is the only thing that's mazelike, but there are signs that point me there.
...I think I'm done here...
So far that's my only true complaint. I've managed fairly well without it, but the levels being so open makes it easy to get lost at times.

So I am in the minority that it doesn't need maps? When I reach a new flag, instead of resting, I go back and make sure I didn't miss any route since the last flag. As the enemies stay dead ubtil you rest, it is easy to search and ensure nothing was missed. It isn't hard and it makes the exploration more fun. If you had maps, you would see how simple these areas actually are.

These dungeons are deceptively linear. A lot of "alternate paths" just loop around back to the main path where there's only one direction to go.

Exactly. And then there are a couple paths to the optional bosses. It really is simple.

I don't think it needs maps either, but having one that you could turn on/off couldn't hurt. It would be good for those who want it.

Yeah, an optional map would be great. But I get it, not having a map is the new immersive thing in modern games. I've encountered it several times now.

I definitely understand it was a design choice and haven't had too much trouble ( outside of the Gestral Village) but I can be obsessive about getting everything the first run because I rarely games.

That said, finding a random cavern in some back corner is always rewarding.

The areas are pretty small and have good landmarking. I haven't been lost yet
idk why cutting quality of life stuff and throwing out general consideration for the player or their time has become this cutting edge statement, like it's daring and avant garde or something. this shit made Outward 150,000% worse

That is NOT what they are doing. They are advocating exploration and immersion. The areas are NOT complicated. Figure it out.

The complaining is actually kind of sad.

I am realizing how much they took from Souls games:

Bonfires (or flags) to respawn enemies and heal

Flasks

Focus on dodging and parrying

Lack of maps

Optional bosses that are near impossible near the beginning of the game to come back to

And, just like those games, people won't stop complaining about a challenge

I never liked the "Respect the player's time" arguments because it's typically made by people that just want to get through a game/something in a game/etc. as fast as possible and get annoyed by any inconvenience whatsoever.

If you want your time "respected," just follow the lights. They show you the main path to get through.

as if i'm gonna skip everything because i can see where i can go. hello?

the defense for this stuff is always stupid, and always assumes the person against it doesn't like exploring. there's just no good reason for limitations, or the immediate, predictable "figure it out, the complaining is sad" condescension

I just get tired of the complaints about an artistic choice being considered lack of quality of life or not respecting the player. You don't have to personally like it, but it was not done to piss you off. And this is the same as the argument about Souls games not having difficulty options.

then say that instead of saying "wah," then going back and editing in more As, as if the point wasn't made well enough with just one. strange behavior

i didn't kick your dog. again i reiterate for those who may have missed it, act your age, it's a video game product to be consumed for money. i'm not going into the Louvre saying your favorite painting is shitty.

appreciating the convenience of a map doesn't mean i want my hand held, doesn't mean i want to beat the game as fast as possible and skip everything, doesn't mean i don't enjoy challenge- not that a map has anything to do with challenge anyway. chill out

So I am going to go to bed, but my better described stance is that people can clearly have their own opinions. Just remember it is an artistic choice, and not about disrespecting the player or whatever people want to complain about. I was responding more to people's attitude about it. But I was also being a dick for no good reason.

Personally, I like the lack of dungeon maps. It is forcing me to play differently and keeping me engaged.

Another example is I HATE the choices Death Stranding made, but it was their choice and plenty love it. I just don't and quit after a few hours.
