The Trump administration plans to reconsider a ban on the last type of asbestos still used in the United States, according to a court filing on Monday.
The move, which could halt enforcement of the ban for several years during the reconsideration, is a major blow to a decades-long battle by health advocates to prohibit the carcinogenic mineral in all its forms.
Known as white asbestos, chrysotile asbestos is banned in more than 50 countries for its link to lung cancer and mesothelioma, a cancer that forms in the lining of internal organs.
What is the reason given for reconsidering the ban? o.0Russia is a big producer of asbestos
What is the reason given for reconsidering the ban? o.0It's white.
He wants to destroy America asbestos he can.He wants to spread a nonflammable substance while simultaneously making America a dumpster fire.
"Asbestos is good for you, actually." - RFK probably

Great! Maybe next we can start putting lead back into paint and gasoline.
I imagine Republican voters are cheering"oh yeah, I love asbestos!"
Why did it take til May of 2024 to ban it in the first place?Prolly cause Trump was pro-asbestos in his first term too.

Now hes just gotta bring back lead paint. Non-lead just doesnt have the same taste.Remember his first term he brought back incandescent light bulbs? Hes doing it again too because companies dont even want to make them anymore lmao
Russia is a big producer of asbestos
What is the reason given for reconsidering the ban? o.0no one answered this so I went to actually read the article and... it didn't even give one. So I don't have an answer for you, though I did learn I think two other relevant pieces of information:
Asbestos production in the United States stopped in 2002 but the material is still imported, much of it from Brazil. So it's not really a russia thing (although some of it is imported from russia as well)
Last year the Environmental Protection Agency, under President Joseph R. Biden, adopted a ban on the use, manufacture and import of chrysotile asbestos... The measure would have still allowed some manufacturers up to 12 years to phase out its use, a provision that followed lobbying efforts by trade groups like the American Chemistry Council.... Now, the Trump administration plans to delay the ban and reconsider the rule.So he's not really "bringing it back", either - he's more just making efforts to prevent it from going away in the first place. the relevant piece of legislation is only a year old and had not really even taken effect yet
So it's not really a russia thing (although some of it is imported from russia as well)https://pubs.usgs.gov/periodicals/mcs2024/mcs2024-asbestos.pdf
Import Sources (201922): Brazil, 70%; and Russia, 30%
Consumption of unmanufactured asbestos fiber in the United States has decreased significantly during the past several decades, from a record high of 803,000 tons in 1973 to 500 tons or less in each year since 2018.

This document also shows that russia produces an absolutely massive amount of it, but it also has a bunch of its own stockpiles so I assume it mostly keeps it for itself (and for exports to china). brazil on the other hand is a major producer but it's banned for use there so they solely export
It's wild that a country produces something that's banned for use and thus relies on export (which is profitable)
What is the reason given for reconsidering the ban? o.0Money for big corp. I'm sure some of his donors will profit.
Why did it take til May of 2024 to ban it in the first place?
shush, that doesnt fit the narrativeAmericans will one day learn that they are fed lies. Right?
It's wild that a country produces something that's banned for use and thus relies on export (which is profitable)I kinda did a double take when reading it too, the idea itself is very weird
shush, that doesnt fit the narrative
