Japanese dating apps generally let you filter by everything. Height, weight, income, etc. I don't see the point of playing pretend on these things.

Match had these filters like 13 years ago I dont understand
Wink wink oh oh wink wink
I don't use any of these apps or sites but I'm of the opinion that if someone is so shallow as to filter you out by your height then you wouldn't want to waste your time with them anyway so they are helping you out.

Also I see this talked about all the time online but I have tons of friends who aren't 6 foot and get dates and attention right and left my whole life. I'm 6'2" and I never felt like I had some absolutely advantage that helped me out just because I was over 6 foot. It's such a dumb metric.

Not sure what that means, but I met my wife in Japan and live in Japan. I guess I need you to describe what social scene means.

Agreed. Its essentially become shopping for a lot of people. Just let them own it. Let them have whatever filters they want.
Reminds me of that old photo of a social media exchange:
Girl - "When his height starts with 5 foot..."
Guy - "When her weight starts with 2 hundred..."

If you leave things to an online platform it's going to filter out as much as possible, and even the rest people might be lying about.

Honestly, go for it.
People would be better off having people who actually give a shit about height filtered.

Im not short, but Id have no interest in a woman if she revealed something like she only dates guys over 6 foot.
Nothing wrong with that.

A weight filter wouldn't make as much sense really, a 5'8 athletic girl could still weigh more than a 5'2 chubby girl.

It'd need to be a BMI filter right?

BMI wouldnt really work either. Its only a height to weight thing. You can be heavy for your height and be in great shape.
Dudes will still lie. I mean most women cant tell between 510 and 6 but when a woman herself is 510 (like my daughters), she will be able to tell the man lied.

It's not just about the liars though. (realistically they'll just lie past the filter anyway)

Without the filter, the person's picture shows up, maybe you like it, and maybe you match. Then you see on their profile that they have some undesirable trait... At that point you're left to make a decision, is that a dealbreaker, or does the rest of the package compensate. A lot of the times it'll be a dealbreaker, but for some people in some cases it won't be.

But with the filter, that person never shows up, and you never see or get to weigh their positive traits. Since they already got disappeared over the one undesirable trait.
Sorry.
Not sorry.
They should let you filter by bicep size.
Who is? I am!
If a girl wants to date a guy thats 62+ and you show up and youre 511 shes not going to want to see you again most likely anyways. Might as well save you both the trouble and be filtered out of her lineup

Shit Im a guy and I set a minimum height filter. Im not really into extremely short girls so anything under 50 I filter out. If I was a chad model type Id set it up to like 56 but alas

Eh, 5'9 dudes have been mistaken for 6 foot before. Some people are terrible at differentiating heights that are too far above/below their own... Which is exacerbated by the fact that so many dudes lie about their height to begin with.

This is true.

Im 63 and when I lived in the UK, where its only slightly taller than average, most people would guess my height accurately, or maybe 1 inch off.

Living in Asia where its now much taller than average, when people guess my height they tend to put me significantly taller than I really am.

...You what? The average male height in the UK is 5'9". In what universe is a 6 inch difference "slight"?

What I mean is that it was not even remotely unusual to see people my own height or taller, especially within my generation. Here its very rare to see anybody over 6 foot. The average height of men here is 56m and the average height of women is 51. My wife is 410. People are just smaller here.

As a woman that is 57 I have never made that mistake. If a man is too close to my height than I know hes not 6

But my own husband is 63 so that is the height I am used to, so even 6 dudes dont seem that tall to me now.
Not a big deal. The height filter is going to be for paid members only. And any women that pays to filter out short guys, wasn't swiping on short guys anyway. So not much difference.
Steam/Xbox/PSN = NoxObscuras
lol, I guess since Im 64 I never cared about it but lying is not worth it. Theyre gonna find out how short you are one way or another. Catfishing of any sort is kind of gross anyways.

And people that care about that shit are not worth dating.

This is kind of where I'm at with it.

It's shallow, but people (men and women) are already doing this when you meet someone. You could meet someone on a blind date and there might be certain aspects of the person that you may like or dislike. No need to waste time when you know your preferences.

If I'm shopping online for black oxfords, I'm going to go to my shoe store and filter out the styles I know I don't want and focus on what I'm interested in.

I have always been weirded out by how many people lie about their height. Even in non dating situations. Like I'm an honest to goodness doctor measured very accurate military specification barefoot standing flat 6'2" and still am even at 49 (no shrinking which is a real thing for some people in older age) and I have had so many guys tell me they are 6'2" and they are all obviously not as tall as me. Like the funny thing is some of them are a legit 6 foot or even 6'1" but they all want to add that little bit and I'm wondering why? Some of these were good friends I grew up with and I'm like "dude you aren't 6'2" I'm 6'2" and we both know you aren't as tall as me" and instead of just being ok with being 6 foot or 6'1" they double down and try to tell me that I'm taller than I realize and I'm actually 6'3" or 6'4". It's weird lol. They have nothing to gain from this.

Ive had similar experiences in the past. Guys who are clearly an inch or two shorter than me claiming to be my height. Or on one particularly hilarious occasion, one guy claimed to be 64 despite clearly being about 510. I dont understand why they do it, because its clearly not plausible.

Its like when youre in an adult environment when youre not old enough, you dont suddenly claim to be 45.

It could be that their doctor's office just got their height wrong, so they've spent all this time genuinely believing that they're 6'2. Like if their hair made it hard to tell, so the nurse just kind of guesstimated

It is certainly a possibility but I would think in something like that the natural response would be something of the nature of "My doctors office always had me at 6'2" but yeah maybe it wasn't quite right" It wouldn't be to dig their heels in and insist I'm actually taller than what I'm saying.

What in the world does height have to do with attraction? I mean I guess if the difference is huge it might come into play but what does 4 inches matter?

A lot of women are attracted to tall men, I don't think that's new information. One girl told me that my height was one of the main reasons she was initially interested in me.

Yeah, women generally like men to be tall and some fixate on it to a weird degree.

Men, on the other hand, tend not to care. Theres a massive height difference between me and my wife and for me its a complete non-issue.
