This announcement could go either way. Complete nothingburger and usual Trump egotisms, or it could be really really bad. If he has had another brush with death there's every chance he might take surviving that as needing to accelerate his agenda.

I'm fully expecting it to be Trump's usual rambling and ranting and probably the announcement of something horrific, but I also fully believe it's going to serve as a distraction from either his health issues or the Epstein case since the victims speak out on Wednesday.

At the very least though we should be able to determine just how fucked his health is if he's sounding even slower and more slurred than usual.

How long has it been since any President really cared about Congress approving that? One of the reasons they dont bother with formal declarations of war anymore (though the world seems to have moved away from that).

Anything else or an actual invasion situation they wouldn't be making an announcement until things got started.

A president can legally send troops to a country to fight without Congress approval for a certain amount of days (like 30, 60 or 90 days? Im too lazy ro google it.)

Being frank, I have not a clue what was the thought process on giving the President this authority in the first place. It renders Congress's approval useless. If a president attacks a nation with decent fire power or allies, it practically forces Congress's hand to end up rubber stamping the President's actions. Its not like the country we attacked would accept takebacksies if we attacked them or killed their people. And lets be real, the removal of a President is legally difficult so its not like Congress has that as a pragmatic avenue to hold the president accountable. Then theres the matter of the Supreme Court rubber stamping immunity.

But virtually speaking the PotUS can legally start a war without Congress's approval, even before the Supreme Court made matters worse.
