That was my reaction too when I first went. That food is no joke, especially on 5-6 masks and a barely upgraded silk spool.
The blue item that makes silk regen faster is great for it, with it that last bit of silk recovers super fast so you don't need to wait for it to use the hook thingy again.

I looked up a video of the route since I hate doing these plataforming challenges blind, it still took 2+ hours.

I didn't have that tool. Just 3 spool upgrades and the spool extender tool. The roughest for me was getting from the second bench to the third.
Narutaki was right. This is all Decade's fault.
How does Act 1 end? Does killing whichever boss end it immediately, or do you have to go to a location for a cutscene afterwards?

I didnt finish exploring Blasted Steps and I heard there is an NPC that dies if you dont talk to them in Act 1.

I went exploring to try and fulfill some wishes. Ended up finding my way into bilewater and the misty areas. I feel like I explored plenty of each area, but didn't find any map. Saw one of Shakra's rings but couldn't figure out how to get to her.

Ended up wandering straight into the Phantom boss fight. Took many tries, but I managed to win.
This is what I did, I didn't even fight Last Judge until I was well into Act II (which I'm still in)

Finally beat the Enraged Conchfly. Found a boss in the White Ward. Doesn't seem too bad though. Once I'm done with that I'll probably go through Sinner's Road finally. I think that's one of the last places I need to explore. After that I guess I'll do the gourmet quest.

Done with the second Savage Beastfly. What a pain, but it took less tries than the first one.

Made some serious progress. Found the whispering vaults, beat the cog dancers, wandered all over the citadel and found the first bell rest and shit.

Got the last needle upgrade. Getting the pale oil needed for it was a pain. I hated flea juggling.

I also looked up a few locations of some things I missed. Still need a mask shard and two spool fragments. I know one is underneath the elevator in the White Ward, but I dont know how to reach it.

So what even is Hornet? Half Spider and half something else--whatever kind of bug the Pale King was I assume?

They say she's half Weaver and half Wyrm. If they're pulling on the same mythos as Werewolf: the Apocalypse, then there's also a Wyld which I'd guess is the plants in this game. Potential for story dlc or a third game?

I am aware that there is another tier to this thing that'll make it even better but I know what the one part of the quests involves so I've been putting it off, lol.

I dunno what it was, in Act 2 late game: Lace 2 could fuck right off. I dunno what it was in particular but man, I tried so many different things and couldn't appropriately react to its weirdly hitboxed vacuum-y attacks. The Beast burst didn't work cuz she counters at immediate frames and stunlocks you. Parry worked well initially but I'd always run out of silk. Because fighting her honestly didn't work, I ended up just doing something more logical. Just stand at a reasonable distance and just jump down slash her. Guess what, it basically counters her entire moveset lmao.

The problem is, I just don't think the game offers that much options to fight honestly. Dash not having i-frames alone means you're basically motivated to not fight close range against any bosses that can hit you in the middle of any animations, like jump (I know you can down dash) or just a standard attack.

Funny enough, after Lace 2 took so long to beat, I basically beat like 4 bosses in related and unrelated places in 2 tries max. The 2nd conefly boss whose runback and getting there alone was much harder, the fire spear guys who turn into a duo boss in the middle, the silk grandmother who was weirdly much easier than Lace, and one other side boss I don't remember. With all that, I think I only have like 1 side boss left in Act 2. I'm trying to look around and don't really see anybody else.

you just need to predict their moves. There is also hardly a middle of animations, you can dash in, hit and dash out. I use wanderer crest though.

there is a shortcut to second shell fly boss.

Just beat Mount Fay. Time do the ol metroidvania backtrack canvasing. Thankfully I marked on my map obvious places to go now.

This is what I just wrapped up doing lol. Not gonna lie, having 3 needle upgrades feels pretty sexy.

Also while doing the Courier's Rasher run I noticed Team Cherry has made Blasted Sands drastically easier while they were patching. The floor damage tiles only do 1 mask now and they removed the last conch fly on the Judge runback lol.
If it was about babies we'd have universal maternal care. There would be no charge no matter how complex the delivery. But its not about babies, is it?
they should have removed the first instead.

Got the Lv4 Needle. The guy tells me there's still another upgrade, which is exciting. Wonder where the I could find another oil. Running low on areas I can explore before tackling Bilewater. I have
  • Beastfly 2
  • Broodmother
  • "Find 8 Silver Bells please. Yeah they're a rare spawn, fuck off."
  • Found the final Slab Key, so I've got places there to explore.
  • The rest of Sinner's Road (and presumably that area after it)
  • A quest in Putrefied Ducts, and there's probably a boss there too.
  • The lava area where you fight a bunch of bugs then ascend quickly.
If possible I'd like to find the last(?) oil before getting cursed, so that I can max out my damage against the boss. Grandmother Silk is fairly easy...but not being able to heal would make things much more difficult.

Oh and i guess there's still fleas to find. It's been a while since I've seen any, but the caravan isn't ready to move yet so...I guess I've gotta look harder.

That's as powerful as your needle will get before Act 3. And you can't do the cursed ending if you go to Act 3, so that's as much power as you're gonna get if you want to try that challenge.

Could someone give a very spoiler free idea of how to get the various endings? I'd rather not lock myself out of something because I advanced the plot too much

Do this first:
Get infected with twisted bud, kill Act 2 final boss without curing yourself.

Then do this:
Cure the parasite. Do not complete the quest to build the snare, kill act 2 final boss.

That gets you all 4 endings.

AFAIK.

1: Beat Act 2 boss without having done all the sidequests.
2: Beat Act 2 boss while cursed.

3: Beat Act 2 boss after you've done all the sidequests (being cursed is a sidequest, so if you cure it before you beat the last boss WHILE cursed, you miss out on ending 2.
4: Beat act 3.

1 and 2 are interchangeable. And for ease of play you'll want to do 2 as late as you feel comfortable with based on how you did 1.

Look, I can name a few instances in MY life where I tried to reach mutual understanding
and i can TELL you, always faster and easier to just kill em. Just is!

I know the shortcut. I broke the thing on the top. It still takes a while considering I was using the closest bench on the other map. Also it's hard to predict randomized moves. The problem with that boss was that even if I see her blade movement b4 the attack and know what's coming, they happen within less than a second. I haven't really developed the wanderer crest tbf, but Beast is faster and it was worse because it's much more risky to do a jump attack counter from a reasonable distance. Even then, you still get gimped by the no frame counter if you happen to be slightly above ground and can't jump.

Basically, the optimal play is not to respond in kind but to simply just abuse distance, unless you have absolutely perfect reflexes, then it feels a bit wasted on playing video games a little better with it. The difference of when I did this instead on that boss was that I got hit twice off of weird hitbox in that whole fight.

Ok, cool. Thanks folks! Next question: I've beaten Clockwork Dancers and have the story quest to collect songs. Have gotten both Clawline and Double Jump. How much plot do I have left before end of act 2? Basically just trying to get a rough estimate of how much content I have before I *have* to start cleaning up loose threads. There's a couple of zones I've not even touched lol. Dropped into Bilgewater on accident and bailed almost immediately, although I did find the Twisted Bud completely by accident before I save/quit

Ok I don't remember who was complaining about how temp HP works in Silksong but they're just flat out wrong. Plasmium Phial is so much better than the mediocre Lifeblood charms in Hollow Knight that its not even funny. There you had to give up charm notches that were better used for offensive charms, trading either 2 notches for 2 temp HP with Lifeblood Heart or 3 notches for 4 temp HP with Lifeblood Core. Here you get (my current) 5 temp HP for 1 tool slot. Sure, you lose a bit of ammo but you A) get more HP and B) can use Silk for spell damage instead of healing. So you're not really losing anything. Obviously, it is situational. Some bosses you can really add up tool damage. Others, like the Raging Conchfly I just dealt with, are not gonna leave you many openings for throwing tools at them. This is a great addition to Hornet's arsenal tbh

Just went to the last boss's area and climbed above it to the Nameless Town. My friends hyped it up as the new Path of Pain so I was excited but I blew through it in less than 10 minutes, I'm so disappointed.

And yes I got the badge and all the enemy entries there.

I hate the courier quests. It was hard enough to do without taking damage, but for some messed up reason they have it programmed so that if you harpoon into a step, your courier bag takes damage. It's ridiculous.

If you take impact it counts as damage. Running into a wall, falling from a large height, etc

If you run Wanderer's Crest, the Plasmium Phial is an interesting compliment to it. Wanderer is great for getting some fast damage in against bosses, and getting the extra masks from the Plasmium allows you to face tank some hits whilst laying in some fast damage of your own.

Pair it with Reserve Bind and Fractured Mask and you have a lot of leeway to manage your health.

If you've taken some hits and are low on silk, you can pop some Plasmium to give you some breathing space to get some silk back to get a heal off, and if you burn through the Plasmium, you've still got the Fractured Mask to eat a hit which will also give you a chance to pop the Reserve Bind (or not).
