South Park is scheduled to release a new episode tomorrow evening, but we still have no idea what it could possibly be about now that the eyes of the entire country are on the series well, more than they already were.

Last week, a gunman at Utah Valley University murdered right-wing political activist and South Park Season 27 parody subject Charlie Kirk during a public speaking engagement. Kirk, whose debate style and haircut played featured roles in the August 6th South Park episode Got a Nut, was a vocal fan of the show, and he changed his Twitter profile picture to the promotional image of Cartman arguing with college students ahead of the episodes release. Kirk even live-streamed himself reacting positively to Got a Nut just days after the episodes premiere.

But despite Kirks own feelings toward South Park and its treatment of him, far-right Kirk supporters brigaded every South Park social media page and demanded that the show and its creators be held accountable for his death just minutes after graphic videos of the shooting went viral.

The South Park social team has ceased posting on any South Park page entirely since the murder of Kirk, and, now, with the anxiously awaited fifth episode of Season 27 scheduled to premiere in just one day, the show still hasnt unveiled any pre-episode promotional material, possibly to postpone the inevitable backlash from the enraged right over the shows treatment of Kirk.

Maybe they'll have Charlie die every episode like they used to do with Kenny.
If they did that I think they would be in more danger than they were when the did the Mohammad episode.
I feel like people think modern SP is a lot more irreverent than it is. They're not gonna touch the Charlie Kirk thing again lol would be pleasantly surprised if they did tho.

Now they blaming South Park. Maybe they will blame Trump next.
When you find my sanity, please ask it to put pants on and return home, in that order please.
So, does this mean Cartman's going to get shot in the neck?

Imagine being so unhinged and divorced from reality that you think South Park of all things is responsible for Charlie Kirks death.
An opinion does not turn into a fact simply because the person holding it feels strongly about it.

We're talking about a show that animates and satirizes current events faster and better than any other media. South Park will have failed in its duties to not cover Kirk.

Elian Gonzales, ICE raids, etc. South Park did it first.

It could be as simple as Cartman dropping his master debating with a throwaway "apparently, I can get shot for this"

If Kristi Noem can shoot multiple dogs in an episode, Kirk should be fine. Consequences be damned.

They'll blame literally anything but their own violent divisive rhetoric
The shadows I live with are numberless

Many have tried to cancel South Park. None have succeeded beyond the narrowest of censorship or the rare episode being pulled.

Seems too risky. There is no way they could make that episode without any backlash.

This. Any political violence is an unacceptable tragedy, including what happened to Charlie Kirk. But I truly believe that the far right in this country, and MAGA In particular, has created this environment where such violence is normalized with their demonization of the opposition and incendiary rhetoric. And I will never be convinced otherwise.

This is what Newt and Fox and Rush were doing for decades-casting Democrats and anyone who disagreed with them not as people to disagree with, but as enemies to be destroyed. It has been the GOP brand for almost my entire lifetime.

The GOP was demonizing the left before a suspect for Kirks murder was even in custody for goodness sake. I want this climate of hostility to change. It has to. But it never will unless Republicans find a way back to participating in the system in good faith instead of being the bad faith actors they are now.

Frankly, the odds of that ever happening are lower than the odds of being struck by lightning on the same day you win the lottery.

Delayed until next week. They were working on it until the last second. I imagine they wanted to redo everything after the shooting.

I agree. And they get lower by the day.

But it really is the only viable way out of the broken mess our political system is in. Voters have to start refusing to support candidates who have only lies and vile rhetoric to offer. Only then will the GOP ever return to good faith governing. When voters tell them anything else is unacceptable, regardless of party affiliation.

As you point out, this is a pretty tall order when a chunk of the electorate is MAGA brainwashed, a chunk treats politics like a team sport, and a chunk are low information and/or lack basic critical thinking skills. Or all of the above.

An opinion does not turn into a fact simply because the person holding it feels strongly about it.
I think they'll put a spin on it. But you'll still know that they are referencing the shooting.

I think theyll do an episode parodying the republicans reaction to the shooting, but not the shooting itself.
I feel like south park's problem as a political show is that due to always taking the lowest shots nobody really gets upset when they are offensive. They expect it to be offensive.
Thank you for taking the time to read this sig.
This sig loves you.

With the final scene being them realizing that Cartman was a schoolchild, and they all stop caring.

Yeah, when the right has a whole ass flow chart of how they react after each and every instance of violence occurring that ALWAYS starts with "It was a trans/gay person that did it!" while the left's is always the same. Condemn the act/offer "thoughts and prayers" and then still want to enact the tiniest bit of gun control.
Rage is a hell of an anesthetic.
Not shocking, the political climate is honestly too toxic to handle South Park atm.

tbf, South Park should be more ashamed Kirk apparently liked his episode a few weeks ago than anything they intend to do to make fun of his painfully ironic death.
Republicans dont like what South Park is doing, its the equivalent of pissing your pants and then trying to act cool about it and in on the joke when everyone is pointing at you and laughing about it.
Republicans have been out of their minds this past week. They will accuse you of being part of the murder, if you said anything about Kirk before it happened. There are even people trying to get the fbi to arrest the person Kirk was debating when he got shot. Saying that person was in on it, like the killer was waiting for a key phrase
