South Park is scheduled to release a new episode tomorrow evening, but we still have no idea what it could possibly be about now that the eyes of the entire country are on the series well, more than they already were.
Last week, a gunman at Utah Valley University murdered right-wing political activist and South Park Season 27 parody subject Charlie Kirk during a public speaking engagement. Kirk, whose debate style and haircut played featured roles in the August 6th South Park episode Got a Nut, was a vocal fan of the show, and he changed his Twitter profile picture to the promotional image of Cartman arguing with college students ahead of the episodes release. Kirk even live-streamed himself reacting positively to Got a Nut just days after the episodes premiere.
But despite Kirks own feelings toward South Park and its treatment of him, far-right Kirk supporters brigaded every South Park social media page and demanded that the show and its creators be held accountable for his death just minutes after graphic videos of the shooting went viral.
The South Park social team has ceased posting on any South Park page entirely since the murder of Kirk, and, now, with the anxiously awaited fifth episode of Season 27 scheduled to premiere in just one day, the show still hasnt unveiled any pre-episode promotional material, possibly to postpone the inevitable backlash from the enraged right over the shows treatment of Kirk.
I feel like people think modern SP is a lot more irreverent than it is. They're not gonna touch the Charlie Kirk thing again lol would be pleasantly surprised if they did tho. We're talking about a show that animates and satirizes current events faster and better than any other media. South Park will have failed in its duties to not cover Kirk.
Imagine being so unhinged and divorced from reality that you think South Park of all things is responsible for Charlie Kirks death. They'll blame literally anything but their own violent divisive rhetoric

This. Any political violence is an unacceptable tragedy, including what happened to Charlie Kirk. But I truly believe that the far right in this country, and MAGA In particular, has created this environment where such violence is normalized with their demonization of the opposition and incendiary rhetoric. And I will never be convinced otherwise.
This is what Newt and Fox and Rush were doing for decades-casting Democrats and anyone who disagreed with them not as people to disagree with, but as enemies to be destroyed. It has been the GOP brand for almost my entire lifetime.
The GOP was demonizing the left before a suspect for Kirks murder was even in custody for goodness sake. I want this climate of hostility to change. It has to. But it never will unless Republicans find a way back to participating in the system in good faith instead of being the bad faith actors they are now.

Frankly, the odds of that ever happening are lower than the odds of being struck by lightning on the same day you win the lottery.
I think theyll do an episode parodying the republicans reaction to the shooting, but not the shooting itself.

So, does this mean Cartman's going to get shot in the neck?I lol'd
