I'm waiting for the physical switch 2 version.

So excited.
I don't like roguelikes but I did really enjoy Hades as an exception. Looking forward to trying the new one.
Im something like 16-17 runs in, Ive cleared the downward path twice and am now trying to work on the upward path and mostly leveling up my keepsakes and getting mats for unlocking aspects. Got all six base weapons and just unlocked familiars. 10/10 game of the year personally so far (DK Bananza is a close 2nd). I cant believe how well they stuck the landing. After Hades 1 was practically a perfect game for me, Im glad the sequel is just as good.
I'll tell you where the real road lies: Between your ears, behind your eyes. That is the path to Paradise, and, likewise, the road to ruin.
Beat Hecates on my second try, Sirens on my second or third try, and I'm currently on my fifth try on Cerberus. This boss is waaaay too tanky.
...I think I'm done here...
Shame the shield isnt in Hades 2. Still, Im enjoying the game very much.

For me the Skull might be the best Nocturnal Arms.

Get yourself a couple of the right hammer upgrades and it becomes a rapid spam projectile that racks damage up fast and safe. Plus the special is great at crowd control. Both times I've reached Chronos so far was with the skull.

Staff is a solid balanced weapon. Swords are kinda ass at first without a tailored build tbh but go ham with a tailored build. Same for axe but extra hard to use. Super easy to eat shit FAST using a slow weapon. Its high base damage means you should be able to do DUMMY THICC damage with %based boosts though.

Haven't really used the torches yet.

Havent beaten either path yet.
Farthest I got going down was with skulls using the shoot all at once hammer. Lost to an instant death attack.

Going up, I made it to the 2nd boss once using staff.

Finding the game fun, except when I encounter the phantom mini boss.

People wanted Fists or Rail, and it's also severely nerfed compared to Early Access. It's not my favorite weapon personally, but I do think it's a solid enough choice. I think my first topside clear was with it actually.

I've now done up to 16 Fear below. 12 Fear above should be relatively easier because the Unrivaled second boss is so, so much easier to me than fucking Scylla and the Sirens feat. Charybdis . Plus, I'm still at a point where all the Fear gains effect the early stages and not the final one really. So the final boss stays as easy as a normal run. That said, not looking forward to 32 Fear later to be sure >.>

I just had a winning underworld run with the hammer that gives +300% to attack but makes it only the final slow chop. Was cranking out 1200 per hit with a heroic Apollo lv 6 boon and bonus damage from being in the cast circle and under 2+ curses. Super fun.

Made it to Typhon. No health bar x_x. Lost, no idea how close or far I was from winning.

How does it Improve on Hades 1?

Is its dialogue system as elaborate?
Better balance (though not perfect), better art imo, better aesthetics imo, and there's two realms to fight through instead of just one. Better replayability and most areas that are the same as Hades 1 are either exactly the same or slightly improved.

The dialogue system is arguably more elaborate because the two realms thing means twice as many potential triggers for the characters to care about. I have rarely stumbled upon some improperly sequenced dialogue (characters commenting on future events I've already accomplished). But otherwise the dialogue system goes extremely deep. Just like in Hades 1.

Yes, story/dialogue elements are still good and very similar in terms of progression and reactions.

Main improvements are a remixed set of boons and gods giving them (some new, some returning), a whole new set of weapons and aspects replacing the old ones, a new magic system as a secondary resource to balance and use attacks with, new arcana card system for picking passive buffs to effect your whole run (improving on the mirror), and two full routes to master of four biomes each instead of just one, effectively doubling the content.

Alternatively, stack so much health and damage he dies before he can kill you. That's how I usually do it since I'm really bad at dodging the projectiles.

OK, how in the hell do I unlock the incant to upgrade arcana cards?

Run after run after run, unlocking card after card, upgrading my weapons, I go up, I go down, i talk to everybody constantly, nothing. The wiki just says "unlock arcana cards;" I feel like I'm missing something obvious, because I can't find a single other person asking this question.
Doesn't take a lot of brains to be a good fighter.
Pretty sure the Incantation comes from Hecate. She'll say something like, "You wield your Arcana well, but do you truly know the depths of your power?" before a fight against her. Just keep unlocking arcana and then go down to fight Hecate to see if she's ready to drop the incantation off on you.

In addition to that, have daze (dash, attack chance, cast, etc) and stay right up in his face. His shots tend to hit midfield, and his laser starts past you. Really only have to worry about the breath and close up strike.

You have to unlock all of the cards, and then Hecate will mention it, and it'll be an incantation.

To be clear, when you say unlock, you probably mean have every card revealed and available for purchase. I still had several cards I needed to purchase when I gained the ability to upgrade cards.

Thats a pretty good one when it's highly upgraded. Damage absorption plus auto using your revenge boons is a fun combo. I often skip Hexes because I hunger for boons more and the path of stars is rather costly in opportunity costs, but it can be quite powerful if your build has room for it.

Man I never skip hexes. The Selene keepsake is one of the few I have maxed because I use it on the second or third area almost every run, most of the hexes are busted.

I find that a lot of Hexes are just DPS options that are often slower and less safe than your normal DPS options. Moonbeam, the giant eclipse meteor, Darkside, Curse. None of those tend to feel very valuable to me, not unless you're willing to take them all the way to the end of their trees where you start getting stuff like "Keep firing the moonbeam without you being there".

Water and Summon are my favorites. The leap has some utility for its generous i-frames. The rest I could usually live without.

Moonbeam I don't really use (though I hear if you get the triple beam they can all hit a single target) or the darkside one (mostly because I refuse to make cast builds and don't value it as more than a defensive panic button), but the meteor is BIG damage for doing what I was already doing anyway, and the one that transforms enemies makes clearing through later rooms extremely safe and consistent, plus it basically nullifies every add phase the bosses have.

I consistently try to mostly max the hex tree each run unless I just roll an absolutely terrible set of perks, but that's really rare. Not having them was a big part of why my high fear underworld run was so hard to pull off, Selene just wouldn't show up for some reason.

If they are maxed they can be insane. But if you don't get super upgraded they might not be worth the risk or whiff chance. The base beam is kinda dogshit past really early game especially on a small mobile enemy like Eris who punishes being stationary HARD.

I am a huge moon water fan. You can stack like 1000HP of heals + getting money everytime you use it + restoring magick.

For Typhon I had a 15% dodge chance + daze on dash or taking damage + ~15 maxed out moon water heals(and every damage taken or heal heal also triggered damage+daze and 1-5 lightning bolts)

Oh and ~50% damage reduction from keepsakes/aracana.

I tanked the FUCK out of Prometheus and Typhon's appendages.

I had over 20 moon waters charged up for Prometheus lmao.

This game is bloody awesome, I'm having a difficult time ranking it against the 1st game since that was also fantastic.
I think maybe the way the story has been unfolding is a little weaker, since Hades gradually opened up in order (I'm also having a harder time against Chronos than I did against Hades in the 1st game & haven't been able to beat the 2nd phase yet).

I'm not sure if it's easier or harder, since I had to rely on God Mode for the 1st game but I've not used it yet on Hades 2.

I'd say he's harder than ||Hades|| only because he has a larger moveset. That said, once you see them in action, they are incredibly telegraphed except for when he throws his spinning scythe in that arc in front of him. There isn't much wind up for that an I still get hit often from it if I'm up close to him.

You'll be sad to learn he's a breeze compared to the other run.

I actually enjoyed elysium once I got used to rolling behind enemies and striking them. Never cared for that big pink butterfly orb mini boss though.
