Driving home from work, near my exit.

The exit I get off has a merge just before it. A real crappy one, too. Like immediately after the merge is the entry lane from the previous exit which connects to the exit lane.

Anyway, we're stall and crawl. I'm not moving.

And I suddenly feel my car being pushed.

Behind me and to my left is a flatbed truck.

I pull over and stop. They do not.

I think on things for a moment and realize that if I ever want some satisfaction out of this, I'd need at least some information.

So I pulled back on to the highway, followed the truck slowly (it was still stall and crawl) and got a picture of the license plate and the company.

I'm okay, and the car isn't that heavily damaged, but the electronics went nutso. A lot of my dashboard functions aren't working and I can't use my turn signal, turn on headlights properly, and even the steering is sluggish, despite there not being any damage to my front or axles.

So the police know, I called my insurance, etc. etc. not sure if I'm going to pursue or not.

I almost got hit yesterday. Light turned green, I stepped onto the crosswalk, and then a pickup truck turns right and cuts right in front of me while I'm standing on the street. It missed me by inches.

Damage externally is pretty slight. It's the electrical damage that is a problem.

I've already spoken to my insurance provider and they'd agree to cover it minus the deductible if I choose to go for it that way.

I honestly wonder if it's worth the trouble to go after this business. Y'know, now that I'm cooled down and all.

Cars nowadays have a lot of sensors around the bumper. You will need to have it checked out/fixed.

What is there to really "pursue" on your end? If you got their tag number that's up to the police and insurance companies. Hit and runs are taken seriously since there's a lot of money involved.

Just hope the truck doesn't try to repair any damage and deny they did anything, but I'd think the cops would run the plates and go after them asap.

Definitely take it in. idk how much the bill will be, but it sounds like small claims court. If not, yeah, hire an attorney. You're insured so there shouldn't be an initial fee.

edit: Also, the sooner the better. It's harder to argue the truck driver caused the damage if you wait a month to report it.

Okay. Car's at my normal mechanic getting an estimate. Friend of mine gave me the name of a law firm she worked with in the past.

We'll see how it goes.

The cameras in my car have saved me from being on the hook for about $2500 in damages.
  • A politician's campaign tent fell on the car. I showed the dude the video and he started out saying he'd cover it. After the estimate to repaint and replace the ceramic coating came out to $1600, he tried to back out. I had my insurance company cover the cost and I paid the deductible. They ended up sending the case to collections and they hounded him for like 8 to 10 months before he paid them back. Once he paid my insurance company, I got my deductible back.
  • San Antonio Water Systems truck had loose cones that were falling over the road and scratched the car. At first they refused to pay entirely. I told them I had a dash cam video that showed they didn't secure the cone. Then they said they'd "be nice" and pay half. They tried to say only one cone fell off the truck. I had 6 other dash cam videos that showed multiple cones falling off the truck and onto the highway. They agreed to pay the full cost after that.


I'm not one to put up with bullshit from people, especially when I've got video proof. I really hate how people and companies try to lie their way out of responsibility for shit like this.

I'm glad you got a picture of the license plate. Good luck if you decide to pursue it.

Isn't actually. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else I could do to ensure things moved forward.

But I did speak to an attorney and he said the best way is to go via the insurance company, so that's what I'm doing. Gonna drop 'er off at the body shop and get a rental. All I'm paying is the deductible and if the insurance company gets a favorable return from the truck's company, I might even get that back as well, but they said no promises.
