Do we really need a FOURTH geriatric Democrat dying in office in just this election cycle? Her position is purely ceremonial and you can't even tell her not to run for reelection?

There is no hope.
A worthless existence
Its as simple as "While her long years of service are admirable its time for her to take some well deserved rest and let a new generation take the reins of her office."

Not "Uh Idk no comment but with a lot more words then just "no comment"

You have to be really be blinded by loyalty to not think that. People keep posting polls showing Republicans are more popular than Democrats without the context on why. It's because Democrats are unhappy with their own party (they still dislike Republicans more).

I'm not saying the Republicans are much better (see Mitch McConnell), but the Big Beautiful Bill only passed because 3 Democrats died in office and all of them were at least 70. There is a direct relationship between geriatric Democrats refusing to leave office and the Trump administration being able to enact its agenda. Since 2000, Democrats dying in office outnumber Republicans 2:1 and since 2020, it's 10 Democrats against 4 Republicans. This is objectively and quantifiably a bigger problem with the Democrats.

Democrats are obsessed with seniority and tenure. It has negatively affected us and is a problem even if this or a couple of other specific cases that have been previously brought up really don't. Of course some here will deflect to Republicans (or Bernie Sanders) and/or basically go "lol who cares? Why aren't you complaining about Republicans 100% of the time instead?"

Yes, let's spend more time attacking Democrats while Trump openly destroys the country into a new fascist hellscape.

He can tell her anything he wants.

Ultimately its going to be her decision. Like he said.

There is no benefit to be had by doing it in public particularly with no consequences. Unless youre Ken Klippenstein and want to stir up shit.

She gave power of attorney to her caretaker. She has ZERO business being in public office and everyone, especially "leadership", should affirm that. Leadership isn't just letting everyone do what they want with no input; that's actually what happens when there is NO leadership.

If her position is ceremonial and holds no power, why do you care?

If Democratic leadership won't lift a finger to draw a line on a ceremonial position with no power, what does that say about the efforts they'll make to stop other septuagenarians and octogenarians on death's door from staying in office? We are in an existential fight for the future of democracy right now and Congresspeople who die in office rather than cede power to a new generation are a massive liability.

What do you want them to do? They cannot legally prevent her from running for office. If she runs and the voters elect her, that's democracy.
Having dementia should be an automatic disqualifier from office. If it's near the end of a term, kinda whatever. But if it's mid or earlier, there should be forced resignation and a special election.

It's kind of wild there are constant discussions of democrats just appointing people like Hillary and Kamala against voters wills and that being a bad thing but then turning around and wanting democrats to just straight up kick people out against voters wills.

It isn't though. There are no means available to force a resignation. Democrats cannot simply "fire" her. So what would you all like them to do?

To pressure someone you need to have leverage over them. What will be the consequences if she doesn't retire? Retire, or else... what?

She's not a conservative so she might be concerned by the Democratic base hating her if she doesn't step down, or maybe be convinced it's the right thing to do.

Whether there is leverage or not a lower l leader of the democratic party can use their voice.

I don't understand this "well we should just do nothing and say nothing" approach

Nah. The usuals love to focus their energy on getting enough people angry at Democrats. In an attempt to either distract from Republicans, or treat them as equally bad.

Like just even using the tweet for an example, Klippenstein has a long history of being less focused on Republicans. Who's the President again, and just had what looked to be a dementia episode in Japan? To no surprise less outrage there from the usuals.

You see it's very important we concern troll about democrats, because we can't let people focus on SNAP ending in a couple days.

This is taking the notion of respecting your elders to the extreme. At what point do voters realize that people are senile

Be honest with yourself. How does going after this one congresswoman help deal with the fact democrats are the minor power and republicans/Trump are ignoring the constitution to set up a fascist regime? Or why does this congresswomen having dementia the bigger deal than the president currently taking dementia tests and finding them hard?

It's not about being unable to criticize Democrats. It's about using criticism of democrats to deflect away from what is currently happening.

Norton should retire. Plain and simple

the issue is theres no way to force her and you dont drag respected elders publicly. Jeffries is public face of a party whose strongest supporters include older black women

At some point, meaningful guidelines need to be set for politicians. If are mentally compromised, then it should go to review, a temp is put in place from the same party till next election.
When you find my sanity, please ask it to put pants on and return home, in that order please.
Anyway, this isnt too hard.

if someone doesnt want to retire you cant force them. A number of democrats also feel Biden was a respected elder who was betrayed. And theres overlap with those who like Norton.

Shes a respected community elder. You dont treat them badly in public. If its done, you speak to them behind closed doors
