Lonestar on Fox
had a ton of hype leading up to the premier and then got taken off the air after just two episodes

It had critical praise going in, but I wouldn't call it hype given that nobody showed up for the premiere. Also I've heard the show's creator/show runner was an absolute dick to work with behind the scenes, which is probably why he was extended basically no grace.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
Underrated comment. Show was fantastic and imo better than the movie.
Sucks that anything non CGI is considered too expensive to produce these days.

Kings

It was on NBC I think. Around like 2011 or something. Basically it was the story of the Bible's King David but set in a fictional modern day middle Easter country. So instead of taking down a giant, David disables a powerful enemy tank code named Goliath. Anyway season 1 only showed his handling the tank and the aftermath where he becomes a national hero. He wasn't king yet

It would have gone multiple seasons and covered his whole life. But it was canceled after only 1 season. I thought it was really good but it was not well advertised and I believe most people didn't know what it was about and never watched it. The ads didn't make it clear it was based on the Bible
I watched that show and thought it was pretty good. Marvel fans might be interested that it is has Sebastian Stan in one of his earliest roles.

I didn't get that it was supposed to be a biblical allegory when I first watched it, because I didn't know much specifics about the bible yet. But I liked the whole modern day monarchies thing.

I had some of the toys. Sad it didn't last long.

I think The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. applies. I never watched it myself, but I have a coworker who loved it, so I tracked down the DVD for him as a Christmas present.

Firefly is definitely not the correct answer since it was fantastic right from the first episode.

The first episode of Firefly is fantastic, but you might not know or remember that it actually aired last because Fox completely mishandled the series and the entire thing was aired out of order. There were 3 episodes that didn't even air in the US.

I was gonna say Wonder Showzen but it had more than one season, this a shame too because it was Sesame Street on crack. Rare. But funny.

Pirates of Dark Water

One of those shows I feel like could be great for a reboot.

That's Carter Baizen to you.

I loved that show though, I was disappointed when it got canceled. Has a great cast all around. Ian McShane, Christopher Egan, Eamonn Walker, Dylan Baker, Wes Studi, and Macauly Culkin.

Oh I remember the nonsense regarding how FOX handled it. The series was still amazing though and definitely doesn't qualify as

It ended right when it was starting to get good

I was going to say Taboo (Tom Hardy show from 2017), but I just looked it up and season 2 is now in development. I am full of joy.
Truly a great show, but they've developing a 2nd season for the last 5 years. I'd love to see it, but I don't think it's happening.

As much as I loved this, the story essentially ended. The last min reveal is more like, an extra thrown in just in case there's a season 2.
Glad to see some people chime in after my Pirates of Dark Water mention. I absolutely loved that show. If I was wealthy Id fund my own reboot.

Kind of? The show changed stuff from the podcast, but there was more content they could adapt from the podcast if they continued. They had a couple more seasons a some miniseries they could pull from.

The Pirates of Dark Water
Well that triggered a core memory

I think I had a few of the comics
I'm a KDT. I'm better at the video game Bloodborne.
This topic made me think of a specific show for the first time in about 20 years or so, I can't remember what it was named or what network it was on. It was about a group of people who were unknowing/unwilling participants in a reality show or something and they were in what I remember to be an old west ghost town-type setting. The season finale ended with them making it to "level two", which was on a large freighter in the middle of the ocean, and then it was never renewed.

EDIT: Took some searching, but I found it. Persons Unknown.

there was this show i saw years ago, cant remember the name. involved a bunch of people that went back into the distant past to escape a dying earth or overpopulation or something, ended up in like the cretaceous, so there were dinosaurs. built a settlement, MC was like a sheriff and his family had a bunch of different roles.

only lasted like one season, i thin the listed reason was that it cost too damn much to produce.

a number of great shows ended after one season - Firefly, the Others, the adventures of Brisco County Junior, American Gothic, etc

one show that was just getting interesting as it ended was Brimstone
a major plot twist in the last episode never had a chance to go anywhere
