Favorite book?

Series holds up extremely well, very good reads. Currently on OotP which is my favorite.
Black Turtle did a pretty good job.
I've only read 1-4 and 4 is my favorite. I was majorly into the series when they were first released (early 2000's), but as a kid, waiting between GoF & OotP made my hype go way down. And then OotP was very different than GoF and I just stopped caring. I've yet to read 5-7.

My wife recently reread the entire series (just finished it two days ago). She loves them. I think her favorite is HBP.
OotP is my favorite

OotP is my least favorite by a lot. I think GoF is my favorite overall, but it's been awhile since I read them

There is no shame in not knowing; the shame lies in not finding out
Chamber of Secrets getting a vote is disappointing and terrible.

I pretty much agree with VI on the rankings. Sweet!

I've been meaning to reread for awhile, I legit used to reread them every year until like 2010

I read them all rapidly in sequence well after they were all out.

They just kinda blend together for me.
Chamber of Secrets movie sucks but the book is awesome

Did you forget the giant snake thing??

Yeah the Basilisk doesn't really do it for me. And the movie made me hate it 100% more.

Yeah the climax is pretty good but it doesn't make up for some of the lackluster characters (Gilderoy the worst DADA professor) and a very weak opening

Lockhart sucks but he's meant to suck

Also: Azkaban is the most overrated book
Black Turtle did a pretty good job.
GOF and PA are the only two I think are great from the very start to the very finish.
I didn't like the whole DA thing of OOTP, and DH was very slow though did payoff in the end. And everything that took place in Hogwarts was awesome.

Edit That being said, it's probably been a good 10 years since I've read most of these books so I might be getting a lot of my feelings from the movies.

Edit2: Actually that can't be right GOF was a terrible movie.
lockhart was funnier in the movie than the book imo.

GoF was my favorite book despite the obvious plot hole. But the movie ruined a lot of my favorite scenes from it.

What plot hole?

Goblet is prob my second favorite. The last 150 or so pages are the best in the series.

voted book 4 but could be talked into book 3, too

loved the first four dearly, but book 5 delved into series-ruining territory for me. still enjoyed books 6 and 7 a lot but it was never the same.

There was no reason for the entire plot, Crouch could have made literally anything Harry was likely to touch a Portkey.

that bugged the bajesus out of me too, but that's voldemort for you - gotta do things in the most theatrical way possible.

Can someone tell me what the point of replacing Dobby with Neville was in movie 4?!

as the person who gives harry the gillyweed? i don't remember much of movie 4, but that was like a 2-hour movie trying to cover 734 pages - they probably just cut dobby and all the SPEW stuff because it's an unnecessary subplot for that particular story

I'm partial to book 3 because it wasn't centered around voldemort , which was refreshing.

Well yeah, he could have made literally anything into a horcrux too. But he decided on the most extravagant items he could get. So it makes sense to me.

Goblet is too structured for me. That's not to say there aren't inherent structures in other books, but Phoenix has the ability to be more freeflowing and go wherever it wants. Goblet is really beholden to the conceit of its tournament and therefore you pretty much know how the entire story is going to go.

I never once thought of him like that. Harry has serious problems to do deal with. I swear to god, comparing those problems to the dating nonsense of Goblet makes him look like he's matured 15 years.

I find that people use emo when issues make a character unlikeable, regardless of the "validity" of their emotions. The thing I remember about Harry in Order wasn't that he was whiny, it's that he became kind of mean and it was kind of uncomfortable... But that only made it better. I love when an author has the confidence to do that with such a beloved character to show that although they're the good guy, they're not always going to do the right thing.

It's hard for me to vote in this poll since I've seen each of the movies at least 3 times since reading ANY of the books again, but I think reading OotP was the most exciting for me, while Goblet had the most pre-release hype. Deathly Hallows is hard to rank because conclusions always get an extra bump in my mind for tying everything together.
Emo Harry was a PSTD-wridden nervous wreck who lashed out at everything around him, including those close to him. It's awesome and the natural reaction to the ending of Goblet.
