Ill get back to the Snake recs, gonna try to alternate genres as I feel like pouring too much into one would lead to project burnout

Behind the Bastards us a fantastic history podcast about terrible people. Id recommend starting with the Stalin and/or Steven Seagal episodes for an idea of what theyre like.

I decided to go with the Seagal episode because, admittedly, I knew very little about him. Also it had Seanbaby man havent heard that name in like 20 years

Guy is pretty much a nut job oh my god, A reincarnation of a Buddhist Lama who is also a martial artist and a blues guitarist with a bunch of sexual assault cases and friends with Lukashenko and Putin. I guess his name somehow got lost in the shuffle of the bigger me too cases. I feel like this was ok! Seems like his material mixes between old stuff and more contemporary.

the problem with rogan is that despite being uninformed, he frequently acts like he knows what he's talking about anyway. if you're an uninformed podcast host, you should just shut up and let your guest speak. don't say shit like "giving into the woke mob will result in straight white men not being allowed to talk."

Alright I really like Night Vale but its just the delivery and dialogue that makes me like it. Theres so much ridiculousness in the town (black angel, avoid the dog park, that weird light thing on the Arbys) that just made me pay attention and find really funny, even though Im not sure if that was the intent. easy sub though I expect it to become less funny and more weird later. Still worth a shot.

I think the Athletic NFL episode was a bit clickbaity (QB tier list) but I found the reasoning kinda good. But why do people still like Carson Wentz lmfao

People still want to believe Carson Wentz is actually good as opposed to having a great season on a team that was talented enough to win the Super Bowl with Nick Foles.

I'm listening to Season 2 of Dissect. It's a podcast where each season the host analyzes a music album by dedicating an episode to each track and providing context and insight via a sort of scholarly approach. It's been mostly critically acclaimed rap albums so far. The host seems like he has a degree in music theory or something. It sounds pretentious, but he, and this is meant to be a compliment, is very dry when (at least in Season 2) speaking and it makes the whole thing seem more earnest and sincere. I'll only be listening to Season 2 since it's the only album he's covered that I've actually listened to, but there is probably a lot here for people more engaged in music than I. For quick reference, here are the albums he's covered so far:

Season 1: To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
Season 2: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West
Season 3: Blonde (and Channel Orange mini-series) by Frank Ocean
Season 4: Flower Boy by Tyler, the Creator
Season 5: DAMN. by Kendrick Lamar
Season 6: Lemonade by Beyonce
Season 7: Because the Internet by Childish Gambino
Season 8: Yeezus by Kanye West

Season 2 has been really good so far, so if you are into music and these albums specifically, I'd highly recommend it.

I also recommend Comedy Bang! Bang!. It's a weekly improv comedy podcast that has been running since 2009. The host, Scott Aukerman, traditionally (though not always) welcomes an actor or comedian on and interviews them. After that, guest comedians come on and play goofy fictional characters. Since it's so long running, characters occasionally repeat which can allow for fun inside jokes, though they aren't necessary at all for enjoying an episode. Just think of it as a reward of continuity after you've listened for awhile. There's so many episodes (and there is a paywall I think for older episodes, though it takes a least a year for them to fall behind it and some of the notoriously good episodes are kept in front of it if I'm not mistaken) that it's hard to recommend one. I'd say just look through the most recent episodes and find one with names you recognize on the guest list and start from there.

Oh Dissect is excellent, I highly recommend if you like any of those albums. And if you havent listened to them, then listen to those albums cause they are probably among the best of the decade and give it a go (Admittedly its very hip hop based). The only one I havent listened to is the Tyler one, and thats because that one just didnt interest me. Like the Yeezus one made me appreciate that album a lot more.

others covered I kinda like

99% - though it depends on subject matter

McElroys - I prefer Adventure Zone just cause I like a goofy D+D (I miss playing it) but Mbmbam isnt bad, just a bit improv which isnt my type of comedy

some I like

Script Apart - good guests with scriptwriters, though there hasnt been a new episode in a while
The Moth - A more live comedy series with real stories, good stuff
Lowe Post - really good NBA podcast, more analytical and not really hot takes
Ian Duncans history stuff - really just more condensed than Carlins to me, but I will give Hardcore History another go.

The Eagles had the best offensive line in the league that year, which covered up both QBs lovely habit of holding the ball too long. He has a decent shot at winning with the Colts, because their line is really good.

We see it every year. You win titles in the trenches.

and now he's out indefinitely lawl
Hm, I can keep going in post order, or I could go by most requests, or I can just go shuffle recs

I gave Lore a shot but admittedly it just didnt grip me as much as other Snake reps

Lets go with the FF podcast that was talked about! Starting with FF8 because I have recently started to replay it on a really casual basis (Plus its how I ultimately judge most fans opinions)

Oh no, so far its not passing the litmus test!

(but yeah the intro for the game is really rough)

So overall the FF one is good even though it completely roasted FF8. I dread starting it sometimes because the opening is pretty rough compared to say, 7 or 10.

I really didnt like Bad Friends. I couldnt get into the comedy aspect at all, its possible that a lot of the jokes seemed more visual and I basically just am audio only to podcasts but they just didnt really land with me at all.

FFX's opening is just about as rough, I'd say. After Zanarkand, it doesn't really pick up again until Operation Mi'ihen.
Honestly the only part of Xs opening I dont really like is Luca, but thats just me speaking. I actually enjoy the Zanarkand stuff and how chaotic it all is

No, the Zanarkand stuff is excellent. It's the stuff that follows that isn't so excellent.

I hate the stuff between zanarkand and besaid but besaid is nice. The Luca stuff and that long road can get a bit boring.

For now Ill bump it, Ive been maintaining some of the other podcasts Ive been generally listening to over this

By the way, when do you guys generally listen to them? For me its downtime at my house but I might start doing them on RPGs where I hear the same music a bunch or other games that I generally play on the background or something

I listen at work because I'm by myself in a vehicle most of the day, so I don't have much else I can do!
I only listen to podcasts when I'm doing something else. I listen to it at work in the office, or when I'm playing a video game that maybe doesn't require my full attention the whole time. IE I wouldn't listen during a shooter like Valorant or Doom but if I'm grinding in WoW or growing my crops in Stardew Valley I'll probably have a podcast on.

Listening to them in the car seems like not a bad idea but I find actually finding something to listen to and arranging it so it's playable to be too onerous for the short period of time driving takes.

That said, I do often have the associated youtube video up on a second monitor that I glance at often, which does add a lot. Bad Friends I've never listened to audio only - I've neverr thought of it as visually necessary to see their shenanigans in the studio but i do like watching them so maybe it does have an impact.

Bumping, the new script apart is good

BTW my favorite of what I've listened to thus far that was recommended is probably Night Vale, favorite overall right now... probably Script Apart?
Warning: I'm literally VeryInsane.
I have a new suggestion, Just King Things, a podcast going over every Stephen King book, in release order.

I only just listened to the first episode (Carrie), and it started a little rough as they explained the premise and kinda workshop some segments, but the parts about the book itself are extremely captivating, so much so that I started reading Salems Lot in preparation for the next ep.

but I guess It gives me an excuse to finally read Carrie (or I guess I can go over the Gunslinger or Cujo since those are fresher)
