Oh I'm pretty sure it is!

But like. I prefer it to Kart 64, Super 64, Tennis, Golf... Smash 64 and Yoshi's Story if you wanna count those.

idk if it's technically a hot take but I truly believe SMB3 set an unreachable bar for pacing and design in 2D platforming. Like, no other game flows as perfectly as it does, and it's absurd that it's as old as it is and still can't be touched.

Honestly, I don't entirely get why some people insist most games from the late '90s are unplayable or something. Could be because that was when I first became aware of video games though.

SM64DS has... Some camera issues, but it gets way more flak than it's ever deserved.

I was disappointed they didn't remaster the DS version for 3D All-Stars. They could've fixed the camera and controls while keeping all the improvements and extra stars+levels+characters. And the Rec Room!
Very very slowly becoming a Final Fantasy aficionado.

I like Mario games a lot and I like RPGs a lot. However, Mario RPGs mostly haven't grabbed my attention for long, aside from the original SMRPG.

New Super Mario Bros. U is definitely on the same tier as 3 and World. 3 > World > U but NSMBU was the first one to finally nail everything and reach that same echelon of 2D greatness. But yeah, can't quite put it over the classics.

Mario 64 has horrible controls and might actually be worse than Sunshine, but they're both the worst 3D Marios. Mario 64 does not hold up compared to some of its legendary peers at the time like OoT. Still enjoyable games I'd recommend to anyone to experience Mario's history.
Feel the sadnesss of the Earth, and I close my eyes. And I'm beyond time now.

The Mario series has original power-ups from its 2D roots that far exceed the power-ups created since the series went 3D.

Yeah, DS version was probably cool right when the DS first released, but realistically trying to compare it with the N64 version hurts my soul so much. I recently replayed the N64 version and I know it's not as good as I remember anymore, but it's still just leagues better for feeling good when moving. That's a hard hurdle to overcome in this comparison.

Playing SM64DS on Wii U was very interesting. You have a control stick but it's mapping D-Pad movements. Still, it's a weird in between that feels "okay"
