What would the Noble 9 of systems be?

I'm thinking something like:
NES
SNES
PS1
PS2
DS
360
Wii
PS4
Switch

PC is weird; haven't PC games and characters generally performed rather poorly on GameFAQs, with just a few exceptions? Depending on how much that has changed it could replace Wii or DS.

A couple others that I was on the fence about were PS3, Genesis, and N64.

Thoughts?

PS1 seems like the most dubious one on this list (if we're talking about this site).

3DS over DS

Tricky, because though the 3DS renders the DS obsolete, the DS library is concerned deeper and better than the 3DS library. The DS also sold a TON more.

Also, Gamecube and N64 would destroy Wii on this site.

I would take Game Boy, N64, and PC over PS4 without much hesitation.

If the Genesis is a contender for top 10 it would be due to the weakness of systems overall rather than any strength it has.

N64 is probably at least top 5 on this site lol

NES does not belong in the N9

I feel practically certain that the top 5 are SNES, N64, GCN, PS1, PS2 in some order. Then I think I go with Switch, PS3, PS4, Wii, and Genesis for the next 5 with one obviously not making the top 9. I don't think the site really cares about portables or Xbox consoles enough for those to compete on the same level but I'd be happy to be proven wrong!
Congrats to BKSheikah , who knows more about years than anyone else.
It would be the Elite 8 instead of the Noble Nine.

And it would be:
SNES
Switch
N64
Gamecube
3DS
PC
Playstation 2
Playstation 4

I think NES is too old, it would be very popular, but I think it ultimately loses to anything on this list. The Wii was a good system, but when's the last time anyone really thought "Man, I need to hook up my Wii and play it."

No way N64 is not in it if it's on this site.

LBW absolutely annihilates any DS game. The DS doesn't have a single strong title on gamefaqs

The strongest DS game is maybe Diamond/Pearl? HeartGold/SoulSilver? Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow?

I'm kinda surprised so many people are saying GameCube, but then again I guess it does have the Melee/Wind Waker/Metroid Prime trifecta. I mean, it is my favorite console of all time, but I thought it kinda had a reputation as a flop.

Weird that you want to stick with 9 entries in what is unquestionably a smaller pool of entrants. It's more like the Titled Two -- SNES and PS2.
Only the exceptions can be exceptional.

A lot of people are nostalgic for it nowadays, and this website is stuck in 1990-2006. Gamecube has some obvious flaws, but I think it's a safe bet over PS3/any Xbox/most handhelds/etc.

I think generally I'd say the hierarchy is:
SNES/PS2 - The big two, with PS2 being objectively better but SNES being stronger due to nostalgia.
N64/PS1/PC - 90s nostalgia + PC's huge library.
Switch/PS4 - Recent consoles which have very strong libraries. They might struggle to stay relevant in the long term, but they should hold up much better than PS3/X360 at least.
Gamecube - Nostalgia + still has some very strong games at the top with a decent sized library.
DS/PS3 - Generally strong systems, but 7th gen is in the deadzone where it's too new to be nostalgic for but too old to get a recency bias. DS should be very strong, but a lot of this website dislikes handhelds and will anti-vote them. Like imagine DS vs. Wii U; DS wins that but it's probably like 58/42 or even closer. Then imagine Gamecube vs. Wii U; it'd be a 80/20 SFF beatdown.
Genesis - 90s nostalgia + being Sega's best system could be enough to put it over DS/PS3.

I think after that would be Xbox 360, maybe GBA/3DS, maaaaaybe Dreamcast if people get hipster enough. I don't think that many people seriously care about the NES; it's a bit before this website's time.

Nah, I don't think it'd work that way. The original Game Boy has two games of any worth here. The fact that one of them is R/B/Y won't be enough.

GBA: RSE/FE/Minish Cap/...Golden Sun?

I guess it's a matter of whether you think top end strength matters more than total volume. I think people would be more inclined to consider the totality of a library in a console contest, unlike the Years contest, where I think most voters don't keep track of what came out when and depended on match pics to tell them.

Also I think they'd include Tetris in there before Mario Land or a second Pokemon game.

I think you guys are making a serious strength attribution error ala Red/Blue in the rivalry contest where the component parts might not seem strong, but the conceit of the contest changes the math. I think the NES and Game Boy are stronger than people think merely because a lot of people will feel they're Deserving of the title of Best Console Ever - the Game Boy especially has such a strong factor of being regarded as a historic great among its peers, even if it has a maximum three games on the site with any meaningful strength. That doesn't mean it will beat SNES/PS2, but I would very quickly take it or NES over PS4. No hesitation. The PS4 library obviously beats either of those systems in a round robin but it lacks the cultural cache of truly being remembered as a great, and people tend to consider the question of "which is the greatest of all time?" when voting.
Oh right Tetris is a weird one due to being on so many systems lol

I definitely think overall library matters, but the GBA is incredibly weak on the top end. A lot of systems have games that would beat the strongest GBA game.

I mean, it obviously can't hold a candle to Pokemon, but 35% on FFX is pretty good. That's what P4 got in TP in 2015, and we thought that was a solid showing.

Anybody who thinks Genesis is even competitive with NES is crazy.

For all the 'too old, not enough games' arguers, what does Genesis have that is even above being fodder that isn't Sonic? Mortal Kombat II?

NES has stronger games and an actual legacy. Genesis is the console relying on overpowering nostalgia for the system itself boosting it to win there. Against the NES .

Yeah NES stomps the Genesis easily. Older gamers still remember the Genesis but in terms of enduring legacy it's pretty clear that Nintendo won the console wars by a landslide, and that ain't just NintendoFAQs.
Yeah, I wouldn't even consider the Genesis over the top, what, 5 Nintendo consoles, maybe more.

Yeah it's slowly happening, but takes a while. Toy stores here still regularly get the Wii easentials (or whatever they're called, slips me right now) as well as the latest Just Dance. Probably means a bunch of families still regularly play theirs (I know a few).
