Hmmm... fourth is tricky tricky...

- Kraven: Being an original Sinister 6er, Kraven's Last Hunt
- Lizard: The Hyde of great power and unfettered science, a dark reflection and cautionary tale
- Kingpin: A constant presence in the background of a lot of heavier Spider-periods, though definitely Daredevil's #1 for Rushmore
- Jackal: Behind the Clone Saga, another Lizard-esque caution
- Mysterio: A secondary villain until he became much more influential and manipulative with the tangled web of multiversal spiders

And I don't have enough knowledge of more modern villains and impactful they are like Mr. Negative, Judas Traveller, Mephisto post-OMD, or if Spot's gotten a lot more outsize influence aince the brilliant Across the Spider-Verse (ooh, Miguel... and there's Prowler if we fold in Miles)...

Actually, with how often she can flip the script on Spidey as a self-interested third-party...

I considered Black Cat, but she's never been in any of the big movies. (Felicia Hardy was, but never as Black Cat). Which is kind of a shame.

Not to mention he started as a Spiderman villain
azuarc wasn't even home. he was playing Magic the Gathering at his buddy's store, which is extremely easy to verify

Kingpin was also, arguably, the most prominent and prevalent villain throughout the nineties cartoon, though perhaps second only to Venom. Kingpin was behind so many other villains and storylines like the Spider-Slayers, Alistair Smythe, the Promethium X/Symbiote discovery, etc.

"Kingpin appears in 35 episodes making him the most recurring villain in Spider-Man: The Animated Series."

I get that! It was a prominent series and influential in many ways plus holds a lot of nostalgia with people, clearly.

Yet, there's even more Spider-Man animated series where Kingpin is only a small part of or doesn't even appear at all. Three separate Spider-Man live action film series where Kingpin makes zero appearances.

To me a character on the "Mount Rushmore" of whatever would be an indispensable part of that thing and clearly Kingpin is not one of the main necessities when it comes to doing a Spider-Man adaptation. Compare it to Daredevil where every live-action adaptation so far has featured Kingpin. Because they are way more intertwined.

Also, Kingpin's been a rise in Spider-Man media for a while now. First boss in Insomniac's Spider-Man whose defeat sets the criminal chaos in motion. Main antagonist of Into the Spider-Verse whose experiments/defeat created the antagonist for Across the Spider-Verse and beyond. He was a prominent villain in the Ultimate universe for young Peter including owning Spider-Man's likeness rights. I was going to mention NYC Mayor, but that was indeed more a Daredevil/Luke Cage problem, and he's a bit in the mutant scene with the Hellfire Club these days.

I admit Kingpin has basically run his course as a Spidey villain (although he is the intro villain to the Insomniac game) as they've transitioned him into being more affiliated with Daredevil, but he played a big part in Spidey stories in the 90s, which is what a lot of us remember most.

But Spidey has such a great catalogue of rogues that have each had their own time in the spotlight that you can make legitimate arguments for several characters being on the Mount Rushmore.
