Hollow Knight on this poll feels like cheating, it's mostly a different genre and its playrate is way higher
But also the correct answer is Lies of P
Not sure why Hollow Knight is here but that won't stop me from voting for it

Dang, didn't realize Lies of P was that popular on this board. No, the defenders assured me it wasn't popular at all and very underrated
I'd say Hollow Knight counts (inb4 actually it's a Bloodbornelike), but it does feel weird because 2D "soulslikes" are almost always also Metroidvanias.Dark Souls itself is a Metroidvania, so it's not just the 2D ones.
Shoutouts to Jedi: Fallen Order though, perfect 7/10 game, very fun
Fallen Order is also a metroidvania. With elements of Uncharted and Sekiro, the only thing it really got from Dark Souls is the bonfire system. Which doesn't even make sense in a Star Wars context.
Seems more likely they started with Souls-inspired combat and ended up independently coming up with a very similar samurai parry system
Dark Souls itself is a Metroidvania, so it's not just the 2D ones.It is a nebulous classification for sure. Anything with a semblance of open concept gets filed as a Metroidvania. But your only roadblocks are the path itself and what you can boil down to a glorified key for a glorified door, except often without the glorified part. Then there's DS3 that flies in the face of even that, so there's definitely at least some distinction between the two to be made.
dead cellsUnironically more of a Soulslike than Hollow Knight.

I can see the argument but Dark Souls doesn't really do movement upgrades and that's a pretty important part of the Metroidvania DNA. Not having a map is also fairly damning tbh

I voted Lies of P. Just beat it yesterday. Incredible stuff.
Hollow Knight I like better, but idk, doesn't really fit in the same regard to me.

it's impossible to deny the influence dark souls had on it.
The devs had never played Dark Souls when they made the game.I mean Swery also says he never watched Twin Peaks.
Is The Legend of Zelda a Metroidvania?
Is The Legend of Zelda a Metroidvania?officially as per like 2005 wikipedia entry conventions, metroidvanias are explicitly 2d platformers to differentiate it from zelda and 3d stuff (and castleroids/castloids are explicitly the term for igarashi's games circa sotn though i guess that term died a fiery death the moment igavania got coined instead)
I mean Swery also says he never watched Twin Peaks. They were obviously influenced by Demon's Souls, not Dark Souls.
lol official wikipediaconsidering it's a fandom term to begin with i think og fan definitions actually can be considered safe for once
