3.0 - Let me just say I haven't played VP past the 5th chapter. I was too bored. I still try to force myself to finish the game but I guess I'll have to start from scratch because I barely remember whats going on in the story. The battle system, although unique isn't to my liking. I find it too slow and I also don't like the dungeons being scrollers (thats for games like Castlevania and Mega Man).
Maybe I haven't paid enough attention to the game because I seriously didn't give two ****s about any of the characters (which you know are gonna die and join you).
I even have the sequel of VP on my PS2 and because of my experience with the first one. I'm dreading to play the 2nd

Star Ocean (im assuming were talking about the second story) is a solid 8.5/10. Fun game

Observe the topic more carefully. If I meant the second story the title would have been "Rate this RPG (Day 21) - Star Ocean: The Second Story or Star Ocean 2"

I even stated the one we're rating here is the original Star Ocean in my first post.
Yeah Star Ocean on the Super Nintendo to be very specific not the one on PS1 or PS2 or X360. Thats 2, 3 and 4

^ Star Ocean 2 is one of my favorites on the PS1. Star Ocean 1 was just a generic space adventure. Star Ocean 3 tested my patience immensely with its bad characters and lame as hell story. Star Ocean 4... I'll never speak of that game ever again.

My Score
7.8 - The original Star Ocean which I played in the late 2000s failed to grasp my attention. Maybe I didn't take the game seriously enough to call it a great. The game however isn't anywhere near bad and infact it got much better during the end. Wouldn't wanna play the game again maybe ever but I remember I had some fun with it on my playthrough.

Kinda fun but wasnt as fun to replay

I can sincerely say I've had the total opposite reaction to CT.

The first time I played CT was in 1998. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I played this game after games like FF7, Suikoden II and FFTactics because I was severely disappointed and the former titles were much much better.
It didnt help the fact that people were saying this is the 2nd best RPG of all time and stuff (behind FF7) and I was super excited to play it.

But then things got progressively better with each replay.

10 - Junction system depth and brilliance, some of the best characters to date (Squall being my favorite VG protagonist). The Final Fantasy which defied the odds of generic-ness and produced a masterpiece

Do you mean Mother 1, AKA Earthbound Zero? I'll just do both since I'm confused.

I meant the original Mother game which would be EarthBound Zero. If it was EarthBound I would have named the topic "Rate this RPG (Day 16)- EarthBound or Mother 2"

I know man. I don't understand the love these games get. Mother was a random encounter + grindfest. Not to mention it took a lot of willpower to finish it.

EarthBound was a good game overall but nowhere near as good as what some of their fans make it out to be

Also I suppose Dragon Warrior 7 might be worse but I don't feel it's fair to judge that one as I only played like 5 hours of it. Granted I didn't play through Legend of Dragoon in its entirety either but I did play through the first disc and I believe most of the second disc which was more than enough <_<

Well I guess I've met my polar opposite in RPG tastes. DQ7 (yes I call it Dragon Quest, Warrior's just stupid... thank god NA is using the original jap name now) was a fantastic game. A little slow I'd say. Definitely not as good as LoD but the job class system was just fab.

And you haven't played the best parts of LoD cuz disc 3 and 4 were the best. With all the plot getting revealed (some of the plot twists are really shocking). Just saying ^_^

What system do you use for counting up scores, by the way?

If you meant for the average I just use the calculator on my desktop. No of scores by users/No. of users

If you meant on what basis do I give 'My Score"s.. then I have a whole list of games with scores according to myself. They change from time to time with different play-through. All in all my scores according to myself are very fair and honest.
