I rather think this topic is a riot. This might be the first topic I've bothered keeping up with since the most recent mafia chat hit 500, because this board is ungodly boring during the offseason unless I bother stirring things up.

There's nothing quite like WC and 20three pretending they're able to "defeat" me or get under my skin. Why would I *want* bad trolls and insecure children to like me? So I can prove I'm a Vlado-level asskisser?

While it's made an effort to achieve a wide appeal, while also maintaining key RPG strengths such as a great story and cast, and has been quite successful with over 10 million copies sold, it's still not for everyone, yeah.

it is hilarious how atheists are babies who suck for being offended about religion, but also are babies who suck for offending religious people. you cannot have it both ways.

Why not? A little common sense goes a long way. People on both sides of the fence stepping over that line are in the wrong.

Of course it should be. Just like, for instance, when you toss a small animal in a lion's cage, you know it'll get killed. When you're a judge and it's clear your decision would not benefit society one bit (quite the opposite), you're a damn bad judge if you make it regardless.

Let me try to explain it...

The girl is in the wrong because the message does not bother anyone. It's much more of a message about values and how students can be better people than a "prayer." Remove "To our heavenly father" and it's nothing religious whatsoever. The girl is apparently a raging atheist like the ones most of us already agreed suck, so she decided to ruin it for all the other kids and get her 15 minutes of glory by getting this removed.

The "I'm defending the constitution" excuse is laughable. I mean, really? The judge is also in the wrong because, especially in a case like this where no harm whatsoever is done and the "prayer" is a nice school tradition that most students like or are at least okay with, the SPIRIT of the law should be followed, not the letter. The message is good and valuable as it is, and it's for the better of society for it to stay. More harm is done than good by removing a message like that.

What would have happened if the request of the girl was denied? ...Nothing. She might've complained and the left-leaning media might've made an issue out of this, but certainly nothing NEARLY as bad (for all parties involved) as this would've happened.

What happened now? The girl has to be escorted by freaking police to school, she's denied service, a ton of people in her town hate her... And many people are offended by the message being removed. And the school loses a good message that can be a nice inspiration to students, religious or not.

Do people defending the judge's decision seriously not see all this?

I have seen people approach you in a civil manner for conversation, in fact usually it's ertyu. Others like sess and sephyg who make topics directed at you and others also. However, every conversation I've seen involving you that has gone in a negative direction has done so because you've said something to spark it, intentionally or not. You act like you're self-aware but you really are not. I've unintentionally pissed people off without realizing it at the time and when they overreact, I re-overreact to them, but in the end I can go back and see what I've said/done and realize that I was the cause of the problem inadvertantly. You are either unable or unwilling to do the same, which is why I find it difficult to believe that your negative interactions with people are in line with "your life moving forward."

I do not see why a simple argument on the internet over trivial matters like video games must be considered a "problem." It's not me who should change, it's people who should get a clue. Why does everyone take everything so personally around here? For instance, I laugh at people buying the same thing over and over again and some Pokemon fans (for one) immediately take offence. Why? I certainly would not take personal offence if someone took a stab at a general group I associate myself with (let's say, Final Fantasy VII fans). I may post a bit to defend the group in response, but I certainly would not get mad and start calling the other person an "idiot."

That's the big difference between me and a great part of the board - I can make the difference between trivialities and stuff that really counts.

I am a very complex person, and what is seen here is merely a fraction of who I am. The general messages I spread here are:

1. To always think for yourself and not blindly follow the herd
2. To be yourself, to stay true to yourself and not be two-faced for some inane reason (like e-popularity)
3. To treat everyone well (unless they are currently doing enough to deserve otherwise) and not just your circle of friends

And, of course... To have fun! This is, after all, a gaming message board on the internet

To number 3, for instance, if someone you don't like much because he is a deluded Zelda fanboy and you dislike the series, and you've argued and even called each other names many times, asks for computer help, you help him because the context is completely different. You are helping the person, not the Zelda fanboy.

The rest are quite self-explanatory.

I've taken that approach before. The guy has such an ego that when I made a long elaborate post about him being a troll (which won me a Karma Hunter award for criticizing Vlado), Vlado gave me his award too for the same post, so he felt as though my post which focused on criticizing him was an excellent post. For all of his innumerable and debilitating flaws, I have to say that he is fun as hell to argue with. I don't even need to have a problem with what he says. Sometimes I just see a post where Vlado's being Vlado and I just can't resist the urge to get into an argument with him about it.

It was just a very well-written post, so I felt it deserved the award, even if it spoke negatively about me. Simple evidence that I am an honest person.

Nonsense. As I said, I am not hostile towards anyone in the first place, so your analogy doesn't work.

You claim that any dickery on your part is just "in response to what others have said to you" but anyone and everyone plays that card. I see you instigate s*** with people like transience and icon but I've never seen a post from either of them that is either directed at you or about you that is not a direct response to something you've said to/about them. The interactions always start with you.

If I've exposed and criticised those two's behaviour on the board, it has been as part of my journalistic work. As they say, "nothing personal." As a journalist, I am obliged to call out negative deeds for the board, as well as bad judgement, among others.

But, mind you, never once have I called either of those two an "idiot," "a******" or "douche," while such insults and many others have been hurled towards me countless times. How is that justifiable, explain.

I cannot force anyone to be a dick, there is absolutely no excuse to act in a hostile manner towards me because I do not act that way towards others (unless I am responding to something of that sort). It is, of course, not my problem when people choose to take personal offence and insult me just because I don't like the same games they do, for instance.

Anyone can have a "real conversation" with me as long as they desire to. They do not need to do anything more than approach me in a civil manner. It's normal for people to respect Ertyu, as he's one of, if not the best Board 8 user of all time. I do not see how that has any bearing on the conversation here.

And if you actually believe I am "trolling" or "embracing controversy so people will notice me," that's incredibly naive. I fully stand by everything I say, what I post here reflects my views. I do not go for "shock value," I do not crave for attention, my goal here is nothing more than to have fun, which should be everyone's goal on a message board like this. Just because my opinion differs from the general board opinion on a number of subjects doesn't mean I am lying about my views. Perhaps I am just more informed in some occasions, in others, it's just a matter of preference.

People who appreciate my input here are all quite intelligent, and I have also managed to win over quite a few users over the years. That's some food for thought for you.

The point is that we never said there was anything wrong with Ed. Just that he's never been relevant enough to be on such a list. Transience, on the other hand, does deserve a place on it.

And they've been hostile towards me on many occasions without ever considering making peace. As nice a person as I am, I cannot respond to something like that with kindness.

Perhaps their dislike was fueled by what I said about the clique back in the day, but that doesn't even really exist anymore. I am not one to hold grudges, as long as an effort toward reconciliation has been made, but I can't just ignore other people holding grudges against me.
