Good start. Mine fell for me immediately upon hearing me hum the Xenogears battle theme over the phone though!

I'm kinda jealous, but at least I can take pride in introducing my girlfriend to Xenogears, which she played through and utterly loved (she's an avid book reader and she never suspected games could have such amazing stories). :)

blu-ray? no need for it. the two huge things that made dvd so popular was picture quality and instantly going anywhere in the movie. now if i ever get a tv screen the size of texas i might think that dvd picture quality is insufficient, but probably not

The difference is quite clear on anything 22" and above.

I have a PS3 and a stand alone BR player or two. Hell, I can burn BR discs on one of those devices (the "or two" device). I don't think I deserve a ^5 at all. In fact, I'm almost inclined to believe I should be ashamed for adopting the technology. BR seemed like a good thing compared to HD-DVD, but compared to what we should be getting at this point it's crap. The format is just barely above trash compared to existing tech that just isn't being used. And praising people for accepting such a mediocre step up is shameful. We'd an entirely new format to handle 3D/1080p/>24fps, and even that won't be the "standard" a few years from now. It'll just be behind the times, for most.

Blu-Ray hardly handles today's needs and has no eye at all for tomorrow's. It's what we wanted yesterday before we knew what today would be like. And anyone with any realization of technology knows that tomorrow it will be a joke - it will be like the laserdisc, except people were actually foolish enough to buy in.

That's what this guy actually believes.

For the record, I do not really think I'm smarter than everyone else (I do, generally, have a better idea about most things than most of the board, but it's far from an absolute), but hey, let's go along with this. I do often act in a relatively condescending manner towards people spouting nonsense on this board, especially in the cases when they actually believe it. It's not ill-intentioned, I just gotta make it clear to the rest of the readers when an opinion is wrong even if I don't bother to tear it apart. It's cool and it's effective - people often get irritated and hate me for this, so it obviously gets to them. My words that there's nothing personal in pointing out bad opinions often fall on deaf ears. I wish people would remember my words and try to improve their behaviour based on them (because my intentions are honestly the best), instead of being so defensive. Oh well...

Sergei is awesome because of his dedication to the cause. He's also quite important if you pay attention to the backstory. And his unit was really awesome, destroying those marines in minutes.

Sadly, I have to give up my crown. As integral as my journalism has been for the board in the last several years, even it cannot compare to Ertyu. From the earliest days of Dante praise and dislike for Kirby to yesterday's brilliant "heh heh ya" in the "Do you like Beavis?" topic, Ertyu has been the glue that makes this board stick together, the user who has always managed to easily grab the attention of absolutely everyone here and keep it as long as he wants to.

I can't list everything he's done for the board in so little space, so I'll just mention the most important - originating the whole Dante vs. Kirby debacle which still continues to this day, constantly running countless fascinating contests (including a few user contests which generated quite a few conflicts, Sess being the winner of the very first one, and the most recent one nearly driving XIII is cool to insanity in a vote stuffing race), the whole feud with Sess (his once best friend who later viciously betrayed him), his incredible Tornadolayzers comic series, his excellent drawings of game characters, wrestlers, etc. (including special drawings for every contest match), the awesome Ertyu Youtube channel which hosts his EWWL matches, game playthroughs, and once featured the most popular Board 8 show ever by far - The Ertyu Show, etc., etc.

Ertyu has always been an honest and trusting person, the kind of user everyone wants to see on a message board. Sadly, quite a few people have taken advantage of his trusting nature - I already mentioned Sess, and there have been cases of Anri leading him to believe he was really a girl who wanted to kickbox him, etc. Ertyu has such a big heart, he has forgiven all these misdeeds and continues gracing us with his presence and adding to the board's quality despite everything.

Do you now see why Ertyu rightfully takes first place? You know it to be true - he is the man, he is Mr. Board 8. Thank you very much for giving so much to our board and making it what it is, Trey!
