In the opening match of Road Wild, Harlem Heat beat Vicious and Delicious w/Vincent after Jacqueline interfered. Seeing as how they were at a biker rally in South Dakota, the face/heel alignment seemed to be a bit 'off', to put it nicely. Decent start though *3/4
In the next bout. Konnan defeated Rey Mysterio Jr. with the Tequila Sunrise. Partway through the match, Mysterio sold a knee injury, and Konnan tried to pull Mysterio's mask off. Decently worked match though. **1/4
Benoit/Mongo defeated Jarrett/Malenko in an elimination match, with Mongo hitting a piledriver on Malenko to win. Jarrett's antics were pretty hilarious, and we got a decent amount of Malenko/Benoit. It appears Malenko and Jarrett will feud since Jarrett purposely got himself eliminated in this match. ***
Alex Wright retained his title against Chris Jericho after a rollup w/ tights. Wright/Jericho have worked several matches in WCW thus far, and this was probably the best one. Wright plays a cowardly heel well, and the goofy dance is still hilarious, fourteen years later. ***1/4
Flair defeated Syxx with a pin and using the ropes, for leverage. While the win wasn't clean, it was a decently worked match. The problem I have is Flair shouldn't be in the undercard beating a guy like Syxx cheaply. **1/2
Curt Hennig put away Diamond Dallas Page with the Hennigplex (and interference by Flair.) I was expecting something a bit more, but it wasn't bad for what it was worth. DDP also bled a bit. **
The Giant pinned Savage in a relative squash match. Surprising how one of the hottest feuds of 1997 in DDP/Savage saw both guys lose on this PPV. 3/4*
The Steiners defeated the Outsiders by DQ, meaning they retained their titles. This was a horrible ending to an otherwise okay match. The Steiners had a whole lot of momentum and SHOULD have won, but what can you say? Politics screws up many things. *
In the crap of the Night, Hogan squashed Luger to win the World Heavyweight Title. Luger looked bad throughout the match, and when he finally started to look good (That is, beating up various nWo members who interfered yet didn't count toward a DQ,) Dennis Rodman as Sting appeared, attacked Luger, and Hogan regained the belt. -***
This has been one of the worst WCW PPVs in a while. The Tag Team belts should have went to the Steiners, but apparently Nash got in Bischoff's ear and he switched the ending around .Further, Luger looked like a complete joke against Hogan, and that ending? Why wasn't Hogan DQed with all the mass interference? Bad. Bad. Bad.
Honestly, I don't know why WCW thought a five day reign for Luger made sense. Hogan was gone for 90% of the summer. They COULD have had Luger hold it from May-August or so, then lose it right back to Hogan. That'd make sense. Hogan would be gone doing who knows what, while Luger is looking strong as champ. Have Hogan return, win the belt back cheaply, THEN job out to Sting cleanly. That is perfect. But what we got? Yeah.. Not good. 3/10
PPV Buyrates: .65. A drop from Bash at the Beach, but it's been the fourth highest selling PPV of the year, only behind BatB, Uncensored (both .89), and SuperBrawl VII (.75).

RPGLord95 posted... who else? I know Doink was like 35 people and there were about 300 Villano's. Suicide and Curry Man also come to mind.
The original Smash (Randy Colley) was replaced by Barry Darsow when fans recognized Colley as a former Moondog.
Max Moon was created and played by Konnan, but Paul Diamond was giving the reign after Konnan left due to backstage disagreements.
Not an American example, but the original La Parka lost the right to the gimmick and someone new is under the mask now.

I'm just glad WCW was smart enough to book Harlem Heat to open the show <_<. Would've been better if they had stayed home that Saturday, but I guess that braintrust isn't fully functional.
Dat pop when Luger won was pretty deafening. It was a pretty feel good moment, but WCW should have pulled the trigger far sooner. Instead of Hogan spending four months away from WCW while champion, they should have given Luger the belt and had him run with the title during the summer.

But when you look at this Nitro today, you can see the problem three hour shows had. While you got more wrestling (theoretically,) there was far more filler thrown in, stuff that didn't matter and was used to take up time. Here, there was stuff done that didn't exactly have a point, but got on the air anyways. Save for one match, the wrestling wasn't at a high caliber either, which was a shame. Still, Luger winning was a big deal, so this Nitro gets a 4.5/10
Join me Friday as we watch Road Wild 1997!

And now, the results of the 100th edition of Nitro!
After Buffer did his usual shtick, the Nitro Girls dances, and Hogan and Bischoff talked for a few minutes, we finally got a match! In the opening bout, Hennig beat Mortis with the Hennig-plex. I've seen better starts to Nitro, and I've seen far worse. *1/4
Dean Malenko and Jeff Jarrett were able to beat up Hector and Chavo Guerrero after Hector submitted to the Texas Cloverleaf. It was apparent that Dean isn't amused by Jarrett's antics. 3/4*
We got another Stevie Richards/Raven confrontation. Stevie Richards I believe was wearing a Nitro Girl's dancing attire during this bit.
Giant defeated Lenny Lane, Scott DeMar, and "Jumpin'" Joey Maggs by pinning all three at once after a chokeslam to each. SQUASH
Public Enemy defeated High Voltage with Grunge rolling up Rage for the win. During the match, Rock went through a table, and after the match part of the table was used to attack Grunge. 1/2*
Alex Wright successfully defended the belt against Scotty Riggs. In a funny spot, Wright came out doing the dancing shtick with the Nitro Girls. Wright won with a missile dropkick *1/4
Lex Luger was interviewed and promised to put Hogan up in the rack to win the belt. Good for him.
Benoit defeated Syxx by DQ after Jarrett interfered. Mongo and Malenko both ran out after the match, but Mongo and Benoit were the ones standing in the ring. *1/2
Booker T defeated Vincent in a squash after the scissors kick. SQUASH
DDP cut a promo on Flair, since those two had a match later on. Decent promo.
Wrath defeated Barbarian with the Death Penalty. Postmatch, Meng showed up and he and Wrath had a staredown. DUD
The Steiners came out, and with them was Ted DiBiase! DiBiase says he'll help the Steiners win the World Wrestling.. Er, WCW Tag Titles. Decent buildup to Road Wild, I guess.
Konnan defeated Psicosis with the Tequila Sunrise. After the match, Mysterio came out (still on crutches) but he didn't need them and beat up Konnan. 3/4*
Miller and Glacier defeated Damien and Silver King in a pretty meh match. 1/4*
Bischoff and Dillon had a confrontation, and Bischoff told Dillon to tell Zbyszko that if he ever put his hands on Bischoff, Bischoff would kick Larry between the eyes. Good for him.
DDP and Flair had the MotN as they fought to a DQ when Hennig ran out and attacked Page. Page was able to clean house of both men though. **1/2
Los Villano defeated Hector Garza & Lizmark Jr after pulling some switch around. 3/4*
Dillon came out to give a contract to Sting. The contract was for a match against Curt Hennig. Sting's response? He tore it up.
Luger defeated Hogan with the Torture Rack to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. WCW celebrated with Luger as they got rid of the nWo marking as Hogan freaked out about losing. I'm sure this freak out won't cause him to win the belt in like.. five days from then. Would it? 1/2*
They say hindsight in 20/20, and while we all know that Nitro going three hours wasn't the best decision they came up with, TV Ratings for this Nitro was something never seen before. What was it? 4.4. To put it simply, this was not only the highest rating Nitro ever pulled against Raw, it was the HIGHEST rating Nitro ever had up to that point.
This wasn't just a one time occurrence either. For the rest of 1997, Nitro's ratings would constantly hit in the high 3's or low 4's except for one time. Starting with this Nitro, the rating wars were hitting unknown territory, with no ceiling in sight.

Six months ago, I began the first topic with the intention on just watching Nitro. Now, it's grown into something I didn't quite see coming. I've been watched nearly two full years of WCW Nitro (and PPVs.) While there was some rough patches here and there, the entire experience thus far has been very pleasant.. I just hope that going forward that feeling of optimism sticks with me!
Before I go any further, I would like to thank everyone who followed the first topic and has participated in the watchfests. Even though I'm doing this project because I've always wanted to watch every Nitro/Thunder, I appreciate everyone who has followed along with me and has talked history about the shows as well. Without you guys, this definitely wouldn't have been as fun.
I would like to also announce that, going forward, I'm going to hold watchfests for several important (and not so important) Nitros, along with Thunder once I get to that point (Yes, I'm going to watch every Thunder as well. Don't worry, I think I can handle it.) This is in addition to the watchfests for the PPVs, as well.
Speaking of Nitro watchfests..

Hour Two Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, and Bobby Heenan
Match Five: Syxx vs. Diamond Dallas Page w/Kimberly Page
The crowd is super hot for DDP.
DDP is doing well here, even hitting Syxx with the Diamond Cutter, but the interference of Vincent (and more importantly) Curt Hennig gives Syxx the win here.
Winner by pinfall: Syxx
Short match, but the crowd hated that ending. 3/4*
Match Six: Hector Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko
This match get a bit more time than I was expecting, but Dean wins when Hector gets distracted by Jarrett and Debra, putting the Texas Cloverleaf on Hector to get the win.
Winner by submission: Dean Malenko
Chavo is out as he checks on his uncle, but he gets his ass handed to him as well.
*1/4
Konnan and Mean Gene are out. Konnan insults Gene before Konnan cuts a promo on Mysterio.
Match Seven: Giant vs. Great Muta
Before the match starts up, Savage is in the crowd as he cuts a promo on Scott Steiner
After Muta gets in the ring, Bischoff comes out. He and Tony call this match.
Giant wins this one with a chokeslam.
Winner by pinfall: Giant
Larry comes out and takes Bischoff to the ring where Giant chokeslams him
1/2*
We get a Nitro Girl dance. Again.
Match Nine: La Parka w/Sonny Onoo vs. Konnan
Quick match that sees Konnan win with the Tequila Sunrise.
Winner by submission: Konnan.
Psicosis runs out, but doesn't do anything.
SQUASH
The announcers talk up Luger/Hogan next week before we get a call from JJ Dillon. He talks about Sting and him trying to get Sting in a match by September.
Main Event: Randy Savage w/ Elizabeth vs. Scott Steiner w/Rick Steiner
Back and forth matchup that ends in (surprise surprise) interference when Hall and Nash show up and attack the Steiners from behind.
Winner by DQ: Scott Steiner
After Savage hits the big elbow, the Giant runs in and the nWo run off, but the damage has already been done. Giant grabs a mic and calls out Nash. Nash claims he isn't going to go through the security, but the Security gets out of the way as Hall, Nash, and Savage act like they're going to the ring, but before anything happens, Nitro goes off the air.
Good buildup to both the next Nitro AND to Road Wild. Good action, lots of feuds built up, future feuds pushed. The problem though is that the nWo had a guy in the majority of the matches. Despite that, the nWo lost three of the matches, and the only clean win they got was Konnan against La Parka in a squash. Still, nothing bad on this show.6.5/10
TV Rating: 3.4, which is the lowest rating Nitro will hit for next year and a half. Things, are about to pick up...
Other Nitro Notes:
1. They replayed the Giant chokeslamming Bischoff several times during Nitro, and Tony went crazy about the spot.
2. Well, as you can all tell, this topic is about to hit 500. This is going to be my last Nitro for this topic. For the next show, I'm going to start it off with a watchfest of the next Nitro, which was not only the 100th episode, but also the first three hour show they did. For those that don't know, that'll be Monday at 12:00 CDT

WCW Nitro Airdate: July 28th, 1997 Arena/Location: Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, West Virgina Hour One Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko
We start Nitro off with the Nitro Girls... Riverdancing. Remember when that was all the rage?
Match One: Vicious and Delicious w/Vincent vs. Flair and Hennig
Back and forth contest that saw Syxx try to interfere (with a butt shot from Flair, ugh) but Hennig won with his Hennig-plex on Bagwell to win.
Winners by pinfall: Flair and Hennig
Decent opener for Nitro, though I've seen better. *1/2
We get another Nitro Girl's danceoff. After that, we go to Mean Gene in the ring where he interviews Luger. Luger notes that the title match will happen next week on Nitro!
Match Two: Prince Iaukea vs. Ultimo Dragon(c) for the WCW World Television Championship
Back and forth contest that sees Dragon retain with the Dragon Sleeper.
Winner and STILL WCW World Television Champion: Ultimo Dragon
Decent but quick match. *1/4
We go to Mean Gene who's at the entryway as we get our weekly Flair promo. Flair (still in ring attire) Flair tells us that Hennig is the newest member of the Horsemen. Hennig however says that he's not a Horsemen. Flair still believes he's a Horsemen though. Mongo and Benoit are out now, and some random woman. Hennig is still going on about not being a member of the Horsemen.
Match Three: Four Horsemen (Benoit and Mongo) vs. The Texas Hangmen
Partway through the match, Hall and Nash call into Nitro and talk to the announcers. They say they are in Michigan looking for Steiner fans, but can't find any.
Benoit wins this match by putting the Crossface on one of the members.
Winners by submission: Four Horsemen
3/4*
We get our third Nitro Girls danceoff. Tony sounds a bit too excited for them.
Match Four: Alex Wright vs. Chris Jericho(c) for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship
At one point, the crowd starts a... very un-PC chat. Let's just say that they may have called Wright a bundle of sticks.
Back and forth matchup that ends in a shocker when Alex Wright wins with a German Suplex Pin.
Winner, and NEW WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Alex Wright
After the match, Wright dances over the belt.
Rush match, but decent. *3/4
Mean Gene to interview Dean Malenko, but Jarrett and Debra are out as well. While Jarrett and Dean are talking about their alliance, Debra has a few words with Wright. Malenko and Jarrett are now allied to each other. Interesting.

Hour Two Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, and Bobby Heenan
Mean Gene interviews JJ Dillon. Dillon has an announcement about Raven. Stevie Richards comes out to announce that he has signed a contract with WCW. Stevie Richards leads Dillon and Mean Gene to Raven. Richards apparently made the deal, and Raven is unhappy about it, then tears the contract up.
Match Six: Lex Luger vs. Scott Norton w/Buff Bagwell and Vincent
Bagwell and Vincent interfere, but Luger is able to clean house. He doesn't rack Norton though.
Winner by DQ: Lex Luger
Luger starts cutting a promo on Hogan. Hogan comes out, and both men cut promos against each other.
Hall and Nash have entered the arena. Instead of talking in front of the camera guy, they decide to go somewhere private to talk. I wonder when WWE will start doing something like th-
Airdate: July 22nd 1997
Oh, yeah.
Lee Marshall is in Charleston, West Virgina shilling Nitro from the Charleston Civic Center.
Match Seven: Wrath and Mortis w/James Vandenburg vs. Psicosis and La Parka w/Sonny Onoo
Flair and Hennig are talking in the back. Hennig was to join.
Back and forth match that sees Mortis get the win after he and Wrath hit a combo powerbomb neckbreaker. Wow.
Winners by pinfall: Wrath and Mortis
After the match, La Parka hits Mortis with a chair, but Wrath cleans his clock with a big boot.
Short but good match with an awesome ending. *1/2
Match Eight: Buff Bagwell w/Norton and Vincent vs. Booker T
Despite Booker T getting all sorts of help from Nick Patrick, interference by Scott Norton stills sees Bagwell win with the Blockbuster.
Winner by pinfall: Buff Bagwell.
After the match, the three men beat up on Booker T.
*1/4
Mean Gene interviews Rey Mysterio Jr.. Gene claims he's been gone for over a six weeks, despite being gone for only three. K-Dawg is out and knocks out Mysterio's crutches. SeveralLucha Libre stars come out ot back up Mysterio.
Match Nine: Michael Wallstreet vs. Curt Hennig
Short match that sees Hennig win with the Hennig-plex after thirty seconds.
Winner by pinfall Curt Hennig
DDP runs out of the crowd and attacks Hennig from behind. Both men go back and forth before DDP hits a Diamond Cutter on Hennig.
SQUASH
We get another Nitro girls danceset before the main event.
Main Event: The Outsiders(c) w/Syxx vs. Four Horsemen (Flair and Benoit) for the WCW World Tag Team Titles
Back and forth contest between these two teams that got about nine minutes. Benoit was able to hold his own against both Nash and Hall while Flair took care of Syxx on the outside, but a Big Boot from Nash ended it, and gave the Outsiders the win.
Winners, and STILL WCW World Tag Team Champions: The Outsiders
**1/4
Syxx had the buzzkiller on Flair, but Mongo ran out to help Flair. The Steiners stood at the entryway as Nitro ended.
Four of the six matches that ended cleanly weren't squashes. The other four ended either in DQ or interference. Decent action though, and some nice feud building. 5.5/10
TV Rating: 3.8, which is high considering this was on Tuesday instead of the usual Monday. Raw also hit the low 4's with a 4.1 on that uncontested night.
Other Nitro Notes:
1. Hollywood Hogan Homoeroticism Meter: The meter went off unexpectedly when Hogan and Bischoff laid down next to each other in the ring and talked about the problematic man in their life, before Bischoff tells Hogan he 'loves' him. Er.. Yeah.
2. Remember: Monday at noon CDT for the first ever Nitro watchfest

WCW Nitro Airdate: July 22nd, 1997 Arena/Location: Jacksonville Coliseum in Jacksonville, FL Hour One Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko
We start this week with a dance number from the Nitro Girls. After quick dance set, we go to the announce booth where Tony informs us that there will be a new Horsemen tonight. Loud Larry chant that Zbyszko acknowledges.
Hogan and Bischoff are in the ring. Bischoff and Hogan lay down on the mat as they talk about Hogan and why fans watched wrestling in the 80's was BECAUSE of Hogan. Then he talk about 'Flexy Lexxy' and the title match at Road Wild.
Match One: Tsubasa vs. 'K-Dawg' Konnan
Barely a match here as Konnan wins with the Tequlia Sunrise in less than thirty seconds.
Winner by submission: Konnan
Postmatch, K-Dawg attacks Tsubasa.
SQUASH
Match Two: Steven Regal(c) vs. Ultimo Dragon for the WCW World Television Championship
Regal dominates early, but Ultimo Dragon is able to make Regal submit to the Dragon Sleeper to win!
Winner, and NEW WCW World Television Champion: Ultimo Dragon
Shorter match than I was expecting, but the crowd popped HUGE for the Dragon Sleeper. *1/4
Mean Gene interviews Ric Flair. Flair (wearing a polka dot shirt) says the current Horsemen had decided on a new member. When the music starts for him to come out, Syxx shows up. Syxx and Flair exchange words, and Flair claims he nearly lost his job because of him. As Flair's about to leave, he clocks Syxx with a right. Benoit comes out to aid Syxx, and apparently we got a tag match later tonight!
We get another Nitro Girls danceoff. Attractive? Yes. A well choreographed unit? No.
Match Three: The Great Muta vs. The Giant
The Giant FINALLY has music. It's been seven months, and he finally got new intro music.
A minute in, Giant goes for the chokeslam, Muta hits the mist, and we get a DQ called.
Winner by DQ: Giant
Vincent and Savage are out, and Giant is able to actually manhandle the three men despite being 'blind.' Luger runs out and, in an act of stupidity, nearly gets chokeslammed by the blind Giant. Luger screams in his ear though.
N/R
Match Four: Dean Malenko vs. Steve 'Mongo' McMichael
Malenko and Mongo fight for a few minutes, but Jarrett and Debra run out. Debra distracts the ref as Mongo chases Jarrett around the ring. While Mongo is distracted, Malenko attacks Mongo from behind and gets the win.
Winner by pinfall: Dean Malenko
3/4*
Mean Gene interviews Malenko. Jarrett interrupts the interview, and says he'd like to have Malenko as his partner. Malenko says that when he first entered WCW, he said he was by himself, but he also knows there's strength in numbers. He tells Jarrett he'd have his answer when Malenko's good and ready.
Match Five: Hector Guerrero vs. Eddie Guerrero
I said it before, I'll say it again, Hector and Eddie look like twins, despite a thirteen year age difference
Good back and forth match between these two. Despite Hector having a strong advantage early in, Eddie wins with the frogsplash.
Winner by pinfall: Eddie Guerrero
*1/2
Dean Malenko is out. He attacks Eddie as he punches and powerbombs him, before putting him in the Texas Cloverleaf. Hector is up and tells Malenko to let go. Dean doesn't do it, and Hector attacks him. Hector is checking on Eddie, but Eddie pushes him into Dean, who proceeds to beat HIM up.
We get Nitro Girls to start off Hour two. The tape of the version I'm watching was sorta fuzzy, so it doesn't look as appealing as you'd think.

Hour Two Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, and Bobby Heenan
We get another set from the Nitro Girls.
Match Five: Super Calo vs. La Parka
We get footage of the week before when 'La Parka' beat Savage.
This match barely gets off as Savage runs out to beat up La Parka. Of course, it's NOT DDP again, as DDP runs out and hits Savage from behind.
No Contest through Interference
Curt Hennig NOW runs out and klonks DDP with the brass knuckles, before walking out. Savage then hits DDP after the fact
N/R
Mean Gene is interviewing Curt Hennig. Hennig cuts a promo saying five years ago DDP was getting autographs from Hennig. Nine years ago, he was managing Hennig to a World Title. Flair runs out, and tries to recruit him into the Horsemen again. Mean Gene has no idea what's going on.
Lee Marshall is in Jacksonville, FL.schilling Nitro from the Jacksonville, FL Coliseum on Tuesday July 22nd. Good for them.
The nWo is out minus Hogan. Konnan is there with an nWo shirt. Nash is in a wheelchair. Bischoff claims Nash is injured. Bischoff ask Nash if he was the Sting Impostor from BatB. He says it wasn't him. They pose as Bobby and Tony argue about whether or not Nash was Sting.
Match Six: Wolfpack (Hall and Syxx) w/Kevin Nash vs. Harlem Heat in a Street Fight
Harlem Heat dominates the match, but once Syxx, Stevie Ray, and the Ref are outside, Nash gets up, jacknifes Booker T! Hall hits the Outsider's Edge on Booker T as well, and gets the win.
Winners by pinfall: Wolfpack
The Wolfpack are able to escape as Stevie Ray wonders what happened.
**
After the break, we get a fourth Nitro Girls danceoff.
Match Seven: nWo (Chono and Muta) w/Vincent vs. Public Enemy
Public Enemy dominated most of the match, but Grunge got a faceful of green mist. Chono hits a kick for the win. This despite Grunge NOT being the legal man...
Winner by pinfall: Chono and Muta
*1/2
Main Event: Jeff Jarrett(c) w/Debra vs. Ric Flair for the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship
Good TV contest between these two. Near the end of the match, Debra is yapping into the camera. As she does that, Mongo comes out, yells at Debra, and gets into the ring. Flair has Jarrett in the Figure Four, but Mongo punches out Jarrett to... stop Flair from gaining the belt? WTF?
Winner and STILL WCW United States Heavyweight Champion: Jeff Jarrett
Jarrett and Debra run off after a few second of beating him up.
Good match, bad ending. **3/4
Mean Gene in the ring as he welcomes Lex Luger. Luger says last night was one of his finest moments, and then he challenges Hogan for the World Title at Road Wild. Once he does that, the nWo music hits. It's eight men with the group, along with a 'fake' Sting in an obviously fake wig and a mask. The 'impostor' takes the mask and wig off, and it's the REAL Sting! The show ends with that reveal.
Eight matches. Two end cleanly, five end with some sort of outside interference, and the eighth match ended cheaply with green mist. While some storylines were pushed forward, it wasn't exactly what I'd call a strong Nitro. 4/10
TV Rating: 3.5 A nice bump up for Nitro!
Other Nitro Notes:
1. Mike Tenay announces that Clash of the Champions will happen at Nashville Tennessee, and says it hit a 'Triple Crown' of having a Nitro, Starrcade, and CotC in one year. Too bad that will be the last of the Clash.
2. During the Wolfpack/Harlem Heat match, Stevie Ray actually was watching the events going on in the ring as he was attacking Syxx. Whoops!

WCW Nitro Airdate: July 14th, 1997 Arena/Location: Orlando Arena in Orlando, Florida Hour One Commentators: Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko
Michael Buffer kicks off Nitro as he introduces us to the Nitro Girls! The women, while very attractive, aren't exactly what I'd call choreographed
The announcers talk about the mainstream media attention WCW has been getting due to Bash at the Beach. They then show 'Sting' from Bash at the Beach, and they believe it was Kevin Nash behind a mask.
Match One: Alex Wright vs. Prince Iaukea
In a pre-match interview, Alex Wright talks about how great he is.
About a minute in, The Giant walks out. He climbs into the ring while the match is going on. The ref tries to stop Giant, but Giant chokeslams him.
No Contest through interference
Giant then proceeds to chokeslam Iaukea. I approve! Alex Wright acts like a coward, and leaves. Random security guys run out to try and stop Giant, but six guys come in, six guys get chokeslammed. Giant grabs a mic and cuts a promo on Kevin Nash. The 'real' security team is in now, corners the Giant, and lead him out.
N/R
Match Two: Eddie Guerrero vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr.
Chavo is able to put up a decent fight against Eddie, but the beginning of the end starts for him when he tries to hit the Frog Splash on Eddie. Eddie moves out of the way, hits a powerbomb on Chavo, then hits Chavo with his Frog Splash to win.
Winner by pinfall: Eddie Guerrero
After the match, Eddie hits a second frog splash on Chavo. Hector is out to check on Chavo. Hector stops Eddie from hitting a third frog splash. Eddie pushes Hector and then leaves.
*1/2
Mean Gene is at the entranceway as he introduces Kimberly and Diamond Dallas Page. DDP talks about Hennig, and why he picked him to be his partner at Bash at the Beach. He said his first choice was Sting, but he knew that wasn't gonna happen. His second choice? Luger and Giant. But they had a match. He then says after his match last night, he isn't mad. He doesn't get mad. He gets even. Good promo.
After the break, we get another dance with the Nitro Girls.
Mean Gene again is out, as we get an interview with Harlem Heat. They said they're gonna take on the Outsiders later tonight.
Match Three: Vicious and Delicious w/Vincent vs. The Steiners
Partway through the match, Konnan gets out of a black Limo with the Wolfpack. Nash has a bad 'back'.
Back and forth tag match here that breaks down after the limo arrives. Vincent runs in and attacks Rick Steiner, giving V and D the advantage. This advantage only lasts a second as the Steiners are in full control. This leads to Chono and Muta out, and we have a five on two beatdown going on.
Winners by DQ: The Steiner Brothers
Scott Steiner is able to outpower the interferers, before destroying V and D.
*1/4
Mean Gene AGAIN at the entryway. We go to Bash at the Beach where Raven finally spoke up. He cuts an awesome promo as usual. We go back to Nitro where Mean Gene is talking to Raven (and Stevie Richards.) Raven cuts a promo saying that the announcement he talked about last night... is that there is no announcement. Stevie Richards talks up, but Raven beats him up. It apparently has something to do with a contract.
Match Four: Chris Benoit vs. Mike Enos
Benoit cuts a pre-match promo on Kevin Sullivan, and says it's time for him to 'be back as a Horsemen.'
Enos actually gets some decent offense in on Benoit, but Benoit comes back and wins with a crippler crossface.
Winner by submission: Chris Benoit
3/4* for a short but decent contest.

For those that missed Bash at the Beach, this is what you missed:
Mortis and Wrath defeated Glacier and Ernest Miller when Mortis hit Glacier with a superkick when he had a chain on his foot. Decent match, but nothing too memorable. *3/4
. Chris Jericho defeated Ultimo Dragon to retain the WCW Cruiserweight Championship Jericho won it with a sunset flip. Like I said before, we didn't see this match, so N/R
The Steiner Brothers defeated The Great Muta and Masahiro Chono. Rick pinned Muta after a DDT from Scott to make the Steiners the number one contenders to the WCW World Tag Team Championship. We only saw the ending of this match, so again N/R
Juventud Guerrera, Héctor Garza, and Lizmark, Jr. defeated La Parka, Psicosis, and Villano IV. Garza pinned Villano V (who had switched places with Villano IV) after a standing moonsault. That really shows off how much of a jobber team the Villano's were. ***
Chris Benoit defeated Kevin Sullivan in a Retirement match Benoit pinned Sullivan after a Diving Headbutt. Pretty crazy brawl that went well with the other brawls they had. **3/4
Jeff Jarrett defeated Steve McMichael (with Debra McMichael) to retain the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship. Jarrett pinned Mongo after hitting him with a steel briefcase handed to him by Debra. Short, thankfully 1/4*
Scott Hall and Macho Man Randy Savage defeated Diamond Dallas Page and Curt Hennig. Hall and Savage won after Hennig walked out on Page; Hennig left after attacking Page as he thought his partner deliberately pulled the top rope down on him. Savage won it for this team after hitting a DIving Elbow on DDP. ***
Roddy Piper defeated Ric Flair when Flair passed out while in a Sleeperhold. Good old school match that could've gone either way. ***1/4
Lex Luger and The Giant defeated Dennis Rodman and Hollywood Hogan when Luger forced Hogan to submit with the Torture Rack. Luger then made Rodman and Savage submit to the torture rack as well. *
Good action, and the right people went over for the most part. Unlike BatB 1996 which had one or two horrible matches, this was relatively free of bad matches. Good PPV, and set up alot of matches for Road Wild. 7.5/10
PPV Buyrates: .89, which was the same number WCW Uncensored 1997 pulled in (which also saw Hogan main event. I'm sure this was used by him to show he drew.)
I've said this a few times before, but the next Watchfest will not be Road Wild. The very next watchfest will be of the 100th episode of WCW Nitro (which was also their first Three hour Nitro.) That watchfest will take place on August 1st.
