The matte finish actually worked amazingly with the white DSi, because you could draw on it with pencil and it would erase away perfectly cleanly. It was really fun to doodle custom designs on your DS.

Huh! I never thought of that. That's actually really cool! I'll have to do an image search, and see some of the designs people drew up.

-I couldn't even laugh when I first saw this. It's just the saddest, most utterly dire console I've ever seen in my life. It looks like part of a washing machine that turned a grody brown-orange over time, and hell, even the got-damn BOX looks depressing. Console boxes are supposed to promise good times and family fun! This one looks like a Polish movie poster (translated to French, of course).

I just... wow. I want to give this thing a hug and a bowl of soup, and apologize for the rough life it's seemingly had.

I had the see-through one, which I got in a trade for my Game Boy Pocket, which I got in a trade for my Game Boy.

I dealt with some wonderful, wonderful morons at my school. I so would not have been able to afford any of that stuff otherwise. Hell, I got the Game Boy for free from a friend.

Ah, childhood trades. I remember them fondly. I remember my sister getting two games in exchange for a Game Boy Color system... case.

-This doesn't look like a game console; it looks like a medical device from a children's hospital! The CD-I was no beauty itself, but it looks like the Sega Saturn in comparison to the Tele-Spiel here. Though I must say, the name is quite cool.

-Mein Gott! What an unholy abomination. In case you can't tell, we're getting into truly dire territory now: by comparison, the Pikachu N64 looks museum-worthy. Between the name, the box and the bizarre design of the console itself, it looks like the kind of system that'd have several creepypastas centered around it.

#4: Smurf Blue DSi



-I know "Smurf Blue" isn't the official name for this thing, but it really should have been. At least in that case, it would have had ironic appeal. This color and the DSi matte finish were a terrible combination, and it was a laughingstock for weeks after. In fact, there really wasn't a single DSi color that was particularly good, aside from perhaps the white one; good thing they learned their lesson with the DSi XL, whose colors exuded pure class.

#6: Atomic Purple Game Boy Color



-Oh man, I forgot how awful those holographic Game Boy Color boxes looked. I also forget how much of an abomination Atomic Purple is: whether it's the GBC or the N64 controller. When done right, a purple system can be incredibly appealing, and have tons of pimp cred (see: Midnight Purple 3DS). This, however, is hot garbage.

-This would make for an amazing gag gift, if you could find one for cheap. It's just so... lame, man. Good lord almighty.

-You just knew this thing was gonna be on here. I'm not one of those anti-Pikachu guys by any means, but blue and yellow is a terrible mix here, and it looks so damn tacky as a whole. The Pokemon logos on the system and controller seem particularly shoddy.

#9: Coleco Telstar Arcade



-HAHAHAHAHAHA

What in the bloody hell is this s***? Oh my God, you've gotta be f***ing with me right now. Objectively, this should probably be in the top five worst, but it's just so hilarious that I can't do it. The kitsch factor is off the charts here - I wouldn't be surprised at all if John Waters owned five of these.

#10: Black Game Boy Micro



-Okay, this is hands-down the most appealing system on the list, and it's not truly offensive or anything. However, I felt obligated to include it, because of how much Nintendo overhyped this design.

The Game Boy Micro, in a nutshell, was a hilariously unnecessary GBA revision that came out in 2005. The DS was already about a year old by that point, so many people laughed it off; some stores even ignored its launch entirely, or pushed it back a week or two. It only sold about 2.5 million units worldwide, because apparently, people don't like gimped versions of outdated hardware (unlike the SP, the GBM couldn't play classic GB/GBC titles).

Believe it or not, though, Nintendo actually tried very hard to hype this thing up. They went on and on about how its design was cutting edge, and how it was the most stylish design ever... etc, etc. Then they released this, possibly the blandest-looking thing in the history of blandness. In all fairness, they also released a silver one at the same time, which had an excellent camo faceplate; but the black one's standard faceplate was very bland, and the two bonus ones were a gotdamn eyesore. Needless to say, stores were practically giving it away towards the end - it was very common to see GBMs going for $30 or so.

I like Stunfisk, by the way. It's so hilarious and goofy-looking, I can't help but love the thing. I wouldn't go out of my way to save it in one of these things or anything but I think he's cool. In the end, Pokemon should be fun. I consider Stunfisk to be fun - fun to look at, a fun design, idk. He just amuses me.

Right on, brother. I love those goofy designs, because to me, they're what set Pokemon aside from the pack. You wouldn't find crazy-ass designs like Stunfisk, Dunsparce and Abomasnow in any other series; whereas Pokemon like Groudon and Salamence might as well be Digimon.

On the GBC: I don't think very highly of the system, nor its colors. Teal and Lime are kind of cool, but the colors seem very flat overall, and the limited edition GBCs - the two Pokemons and Tommy Hilfiger - aren't appealing either.

...you probably did a double-take at "Tommy Hilfiger," right? Well, I assure you it's real!



On the Classic NES GBA SP: It's cool, especially as a collector's item. But there are plenty of cooler SP variants out there, and from what I hear, the paint on this particular SP is highly prone to wearing out.

On the Zelda systems: I remember being kind of disappointed in the Phantom Hourglass one; it's a lazy design, IMO. But man, that 3DS is pretty beautiful. Maybe I should have considered putting it on the list.

On the custom God of War PSP: ...holy s***, that's badass.

I knew this was Stunfy's last stand, but damn it, we lost Eelmatic in the same day?!?

I still have a fair amount of Pokemon to support still, at least. I'll mainly be focusing on Raichu (my #1 electric), Manectric and Zebstrika from here on out. Really though, it's a strong lineup overall, with only Raikou and Lanturn sticking out like sore thumbs.
