Manchin wasn't a part of this - his voters knew, more or less, he was preferred as a "moderate" or the better option. Fetterman represented a huge betrayal of the progressive base, both in narrative and in action. I remember feeling elated at the idea of a stroke victim soundly defeating a fraudulent monster and that the people of a prominent swing state thought more about Fetterman's character than his temporary condition. In action, Fetterman really burned everything, and makes that betrayal all the more infuriating. If he can earnestly commit to continuing a campaign despite a near fatal stroke and willfully risk it all on a debate stage struggling to speak, what would someone who isn't impacted by major health issues be willing to do? I think anybody beats Collins here but I think they need to oust Platner because he screams bad judgment at minimum and sabotage at worst, and socdems need to be more prepared on opposition research in the future. I'm willing to accept he's changed on a lot of issues and the premise everyone has a "clean" internet history is absurd but this guy has flown a thousand red flags. This does not need to be a story where a displaced guy finds his way. There's no indication he's "found his way" at all, really, and after Fetterman and Sinema I am deeply skeptical of these kinds of stories. Biden's culpability is similar to a lot of presidents in this regard but I think the increased scrutiny presidents have received in the last couple of decades also shows how decidedly unspectacular it is even compared with Bush just fifteen years earlier since we merely aided and abetted war crimes rather than literally be the ones to do them directly. More obviously, even if you agree Biden should be on the block for prosecution, there's a lot of people who deserve that before him and the premise Biden would ever even see a trial is pretty laughable considering his age/health. The first concern in tandem with prosecuting more responsible figures should be reforming the presidency to make it less capable of unilateral violence and force more oversight from elected representatives who have to put skin in the game and face constituency backlash should they try and force more wars/conflicts. This alone has made AIPAC immensely unpopular in the context of what Biden is affiliated with and far more damaging to the actual continued genocide in question than prosecuting Biden ever could be. --- Enjoy movies and television? A lot of anti-nuke media for Japan relies on the human cost, which is a harder sell after you dig into what Imperial Japan did because it makes the allusions and similarities to the Nazis far more obvious. Issue with Mills is she supports the filibuster and is backed by sports betting. I think more than enough time exists to recruit pretty much any decent Dem candidate in the state that has her liberal positions but doesn't cop out on certain things. Part of this is that Maine is D+9. Collins won in 2020 but the margins are fairly deceptive; Maine's open system and candidates indicate she won by around 3-4%, but because she crossed a 50% threshold, this never activated and people perceive her as having won the electorate by 8%. Two things, though: A: Collins has contested one elections during the Trump Era and it was during his first term. B: This is going to be a midterm and Dem turnout is significantly higher this era during off-elections. Collins' downballot generic R support she had in 2020 from Trump on the ballot won't exist. I'm fine with cautionary Dem campaigns in places like Texas, Iowa, Alaska, etc. where opportunities exist but they probably are won on a fine and unlikely line, same with Osborn. But any person as old as Mills is who is pledging one term needs to be exceptional. She is less radical for her state than Ossoff is in Georgia and Dems are superstitiously worried about Collins when she's far less advantaged now than, say, Sherrod Brown was in Ohio in 2024. --- Enjoy movies and television? | Zero_Destroyer 10/01/25 6:11:16 PM #79 | It really needs to be stated that despite Rowling herself writing the books pretty much every image and sound people associate with the franchise writ-large is as much credited to Columbus, Williams, set designers, and the vast cast the films had. I think you can still enjoy the franchise if only because Rowling herself is not the sole reason for its success. The great irony here is that Watson, like other actors, is a major reason people glommed onto the franchise and it blew up as much as it did. It's not that these were obscure before the films or that Rowling hadn't already become a success, of course, but she wouldn't have half her fortune she has now if it wasn't for the films and the proceeding merchandising sales. She should be very thankful to these people but the last few years have it pretty clear she's only grateful to people who politically agree with her. She's just a fundamentally embarassing person and if it weren't for her political influence I'd say just treat her like Linehan and make her a walking eternal punchline. --- Enjoy movies and television?
