Had a decent time following some threads around, but definitely hit a point where I didn't necessarily have a compelling or clear place to go that could keep me interested in continuing the game.

Especially things that felt like they possibly needed specific timing in cycle which could be a real drag.

Also 2004 is exactly what you don't want to look at with Bonds. That is basically peak steroids Bonds.At that point he could barely run. But he still had elite bat speed and plate recognition.

But he was 39. Without the steroids its likely his peak was 7-10 years in the past. It is not a fair comparison.

He absolutely gets in the conversation, but your never going to be able to answer the question of what would have happened without the steroids. He was a hall of fame talent with the best drugs money could buy.

Pretty much everything from 94-2005 gets a big asterisk.

While a lot of players were on steroids, it was not all of them. It may not have even been a majority.

But it also primarily impacted offense.

Arguably, advancements in biomechanics have led to better pitchers than we ever saw out of the steroid era. Not more durable, but pitchers now throw harder than they ever have before. They spin the baseball better than ever before(Minus a small period of advanced sticky stuff just a few years back). The stuff hitters see on a regular basis is on average way more difficult to hit than ever before.

And again, reminder, until 1947(And lets be honest, a decent period beyond that), the talent pool MLB players was not "best players" it was "best players allowed to play".

The minimum distance for an outfield wall was 250 feet until 1959.

Just in the last couple years they have limited as to what pitchers can do to keep guys on, they made the bases bigger, you can't block the base anymore, and you can even wear a oversized oven mitt on your hand if you want.

The game is a lot harder than it has ever been. Not sure where you are trying to go with this. The talent pool is as strong as its ever been. A large percentage of the country couldn't even play when Ruth played.

What little I can find at a glance says that its likely mostly untrue.

But also there has been very little study on it.

Its likely boys have more variation(But on both sides of development, lagging behind and being advanced) but that there is some "boys way" of learning I'm not turning up anything. Will keep checking.

The part that bothers me is that the cult has embraced Trump as essentially a sports fandom. His death would be best to stop it but as long as hes alive he can basically lead the cult however he wants. His crowd is going to back him no matter what. There are so many people now interested in politics in a way that isn't sane in the slightest.

Our government isn't really setup to fix anything, especially when one party is entirely invested in making sure nothing happens.

A rabid MAGA party is still dangerous. Nothing ends. Our populace on both sides isn't educated or interested enough to know why anything happens. Kamala Harris isn't going to be some magical fix and we will end up paying for it in the polls in one form or another.

The media isn't suddenly going to shift to pointing out Trump is a fucking lunatic.

It is unfortunate but we don't grab enough power even with a Trump loss. It is still preferable. But we are very deep in a hole. It is going to be a continued cycle of crazy MAGA idiots vs the rest of the mostly apathetic populace.

From a perspective of having shit to do these days and would like to be able to give my brain things to think about pointlessly.
