Here's a question: can tokenism be beneficial or are only fleshed-out, sincerely written characters of benefit to diversity and inclusion? Disregarding the argument that Shakespearian writing is expected of members of minority groups. We're just talking baseline minor characters.

If your story has two scenes which take place at a doctor's office, there's no harm in making the doctor a member of an underrepresented group. But if you didn't originally intend to have those scenes, is it worth inventing them just to add a two-scene character for a little more diversity?

I don't think anyone would call a minor bit player a token character but it does bring up an interesting point about different types of minorities. If you have a random doctor in a scene I don't think anyone would bat an eye if they were a woman or a black person. That's totally normal and inconsequential. But a lot of things recently have started having "Hi, I'm gay" characters which comes off as really grating, but there's not really a great way to indicate a character is gay without them directly telling the audience. You get your minority points either way but with a... non-visual minority you have to take active steps to include it instead of just casting a certain person. So what is the best way to naturally present a gay person in this kind of situation?

Well then, they are a bad writer and their bad writing should be criticized. But it wasn't the diversity that made them bad.

I don't think anyone is saying that. It's just that bad writers use diversity as a tool for virtue signaling and pretending like their work is more legitimate. Criticizing the poorly implemented diversity is criticizing bad writing.

Its a very frustrating view l. I used to think that this people were simply small-minded and only familiar high fantasy inspired from European settings, but now I think theyre all probably just closet racists at best.
Its one thing to regionalize ethnicities in a fantasy world (the Grishaverse is a good example of this), but the complete absence of them is nonsensical.

Is it really hard to understand why a monoethnic culture with limited technology and mobility wouldn't have a lot of interethnic mixing? If there's some technology or magic in a setting to explain why there's a lot of mixing and travel between countries or cultures that's great, but it's a lot easier to assume a setting based in one location where the fastest means of transport is a horse is full of one kind of people than the inverse. The vast majority of fantasy worlds do regionalize ethnicities. I can't think of any off the top of my head that are just a world full of white people. They just take place in regions where white people are.

Don't think I've ever heard of spite virtue signaling. I'm sure the quality of this person's work is compleyely above reproach.

People online tell me my state is Trump country but honestly outside of a sign here or there I never see much about him. Ive never personally seen someone wearing a maga hat. About the only thing you really see is bumper stickers and Ive always seen those from, yes, both sides.

This. I lived in Charleston SC for ten years. I'm sure the city is better than the countryside for this but still. Just the occasional bumber sticker etc.

It only has baggage because people pretend like they're the only thing on the market and they're all made by ubisoft.

The series has been open ended since the very beginning. They've just been expanding the size of these maps. I don't think it's too big of a jump to make it much larger and expand on the Metroidvania style loop of wandering back and forth between various locked gates. We're definitely not talking about it being some 15 sq mi sandbox.

As bad as some of y'all are, this place would give 4chan a run for its money if there was no moderation.

Why is SC so questionable? I lived in charleston for a decade and people love that place. SC has beaches and mountains, Carowinds. And Myrtle Beach if you're white trash.

Perfectly fine with this. I don't know if I'll ever even finish the base game. That thing is massive. And as cool as the setting is, DnD doesn't exactly break the mold on fantasy settings. After this and Divinity I'd rather they take their skills and do something wholly new. Do something spacey, or dystopian/cyberpunk. Or Dinosaurs. I would slap my grandma for a Turok-esque Larian RPG.

It's really not that bad. I hate big cities as much as the next guy but groceries aren't much more expensive and most of the apartments back in charleston are at least 2000 anyway, although bigger than this one for the price. It's not like I'm going to fancy restaurants and shows every week.

Definitely want to find those. I thought bodegas were supposed to be the cheap go to for everything but 2 chopped cheese and fries was 27 bucks and a gallon of milk was 6. I'm not sold on the concept.
