Initially, her being invisible was meant to denote that she was mostly a non-factor. That's a weird way of looking at it. But that's comic book logic for you. "If the enemy can't see you, you're not in this contest." In real life, the ability to fight unseen would be of tremendous benefit and almost assuredly guarantee victory.

But I guess the initial idea was that she was weak and girly and could just disappear from the fight and chime in when needed. What can be said? The character started as a sexist commentary on a woman's perceived place: stay out of things and appear when needed.

Now she's powerful enough that she doesn't really need a team.
