I found the second book to be kinda meh, Control isn't really an interesting character at all, IMO. Besides some of the description of initial science experiments on the border The third book was also WAY more interesting in how they split the narrative. Especially reading about Saul and the Seance and Science Brigade. Also yeah, I think VanderMeer announced like a few years ago he was going to write another book, but I guess it's going to about other people not really connected to the Southern Reach facility. So it's like how Douglas Adams made fun of his series calling new books things like "A new book in the increasingly misnamed Hitchhiker's Guide Trilogy". I enjoyed 1 and 2. I still haven't played 3 because I already know that it barely advances the story and ends on another cliffhanger. I'm mad they didn't take this chance to wrap everything up. There will probably never be a shenmue 4 Suzuki had this plan of (X) amount of chapters from the start and he was just starting where he left off, but it definitely didn't feel like a good idea to continue with what is basically "You spend time with Shenhua", especially with redoing and half baking the combat. --- "You're made of spare parts, aren't ya, bud?" |
