I'm a trans woman in Texas. Bills are up right now that would ban me from necessary medication, and make it illegal for me to even call myself a woman. I would be better off in China, or hell, most countries, than I would be in GOP Texas if those bills pass.

I think the one good thing about the second Trump term is the end of American hegemony. Time will tell if Chinese hegemony is better, but it can't be worse than a GOP American hegemony.

I have always believed that capitalism and democracy are incompatible systems, because it's always seemed obvious to me that capitalism would lead to money getting irreversibly caught up in politics.

I agree with you, but a free press is also a requirement of democracy, so it's a difficult issue. I don't know who we would trust to decide whether news is "factual" or not.

I agree with this idea in theory, but who decides what news is "factual"? If we started doing this now for example, it would be the GOP choosing what news is factual. If we tried this when Dems were in power, the second the GOP ever got in, it would be over.

AfD is no where near a majority and if the center government curbs immigration they will lose the only reason most people vote for them.

Reform got destroyed in the last elections and there won't be another until around 2029, so no idea what you are talking about with that.

Recent British polls predicted a Reform victory in 2029. And AfD is the second largest party and continuing to grow. Canada seems set to elect their own Trump this year too.

Please list Democracies with a far right government. US, Italy, and...? You can count Hungary, Russia, and Turkey as former Democracies I suppose, India is still somewhat of a Democracy. Not finding a vast majority or even majority.

I'm including countries that haven't fully made it yet, but are on the way. AfD continues to grow with each German election, and Reform is predicted to win the next UK election as two examples

The US system being shit, and it always has been, doesn't mean Democracy doesn't work. If you had a proportional representation system without an elected head of state, like many countries, this situation never could have even happened.

The vast majority of democracies are turning to the far right, so I think there is a fundamental flaw somewhere.

It's obvious now that democracy, in its current form, doesn't work. The people are not smart or informed enough to make good choices, to the point that the majority happily elected a known rapist to run the country. As a trans Texan, I'm witnessing my democratically elected representative draft bills that would ban me from accessing medication I need, and imprison me for even saying I'm a woman. I would be better off being trans in the vast majority of dictatorships than I would be in democratic Texas if these bill come into effect. At least in a dictatorship I would know where I stood and what I was getting, whereas here my life can be suddenly ruined because my fellow citizens decided to elect people who openly pledged to do so. And none of our allies will trust us because we do a 180 on foreign policy every four years.

Democracy in theory is better than dictatorship, but American democracy has very serious flaws. How can they be fixed?

Maybe it is just copium on my part but I do think his Gen Z popularity is temporary.

I think that they are desperate that they see their chances and opportunities vanishing and were driven to the right because they were giving them easy answers. That it's because of immagrants, or trans people that you don't have a girlfriend and why you aren't rich. It's why the alpha males, the dude bros, the crypto bros got popular. They gave an easy answer. And Trump appealed to those people.

I just don't see this as sustainable. I think that the worse things get at least some in Gen Z will realize they were duped and turn on those who duped them.

Right now Democrats have no answers and act like everything was fine while Conservatives were giving easy answers, saying everything would change immediately if they were in charge. There are people who want to change things for the better but they have no power and they are overlooked as their solutions take time and money.

Gen Z are notorious for lacking critical thinking skills and being reluctant to admit when they've made a mistake. Even if they feel the hurt under Trump, they'll more likely double down on their support and accept his lies that it's everyone else's fault.

This was debunked about North Korea. The idea that they can't leave the country has also been debunked; many do study abroad in places like China. The truth is that most countries won't allow North Korean citizens entry due to American sanctions. This was then twisted into saying they don't allow people to leave.

I'm technically Gen Z myself (though very early, and a Millenial by some definitions), and I've always been a leftist and only grown more so with age, as I see right-wing politics ruining both my countries (I have lived in both Britain and the US in my adulthood) constantly. I don't understand how the rest of Gen Z fail to see it.
