| hivebent4life 03/06/25 6:05:15 PM #1: | It's obvious now that democracy, in its current form, doesn't work. The people are not smart or informed enough to make good choices, to the point that the majority happily elected a known rapist to run the country. As a trans Texan, I'm witnessing my democratically elected representative draft bills that would ban me from accessing medication I need, and imprison me for even saying I'm a woman. I would be better off being trans in the vast majority of dictatorships than I would be in democratic Texas if these bill come into effect. At least in a dictatorship I would know where I stood and what I was getting, whereas here my life can be suddenly ruined because my fellow citizens decided to elect people who openly pledged to do so. And none of our allies will trust us because we do a 180 on foreign policy every four years. Democracy in theory is better than dictatorship, but American democracy has very serious flaws.
