DARE is a funny example for people to use. I actually never had to take it, but my sister did, I think she even did some kind of speech or something, but it's been a while, I could be mixing up the details. While she doesn't abuse drugs or anything, she doesn't mind them, whereas I actually don't touch anything harder than ibuprofen if I can help it lol

Maybe thats true. But for something like, I dunno, MGS. Despite people thinking Snake is cool, or Raiden in Revengeance, and having fun gameplay, people also dont doubt that its overall meant to be an antiwar game, or at least I dont feel that many people do.

Maybe because its a relatively simple message, and also not a controversial stance? Then again, I could be overestimating how many people get it.

Kind of awkward question phrasing on my part. I feel like it's hard to explain, so I'll try giving an example.

In the Coffin of Andy and Leyley, incest, or at least the implication of it, is pretty prevalent. Nothing is graphically show on-screen, but there are some undertones (and one overtone). From what I remember from the game, it shows the relationship between the brother and sister to be evidently unhealthy. It's pretty much never commented on positively in-game. Ending of chapter 2 spoilers: There is an ending that seems as if it will lead to incest, but it's an optional one, and it's also branching within the branch. You can have them seem to get closer, without making it go that far. So there is a way for it to be interpreted positively, but the characters are still generally not 'good'.

Besides what's in the spoilers, there's some art that kinda plays it up in a manner that appeals to those who like the idea of it between the two characters. For instance, this was posted a while back:

I sometimes see people complain about this game as if it unquestionably supports their relationship, but I feel that's a misreading of those who haven't played the game. At the same time, it isn't entirely unfair either, people who seem to like the taboo, seem to like the game, and arts like the above definitely appeal to those people, even if the contents of the game don't quite match.

Hopefully this illustrates my question well enough. I'd honestly rather use a different example, but the other one I could think of was more spoilery.

I think we have a limit of 80 hours that can be kept by the end of the year. I havent been using much, since I havent needed it. It feels awkward to use cause I already work only 4 days.

I dont hate it, but I just dont bother doing it unless I feel like its gotten really bad. I dont grow super bushy beards.

I saw this in the banned book section at my school. I still have no idea what it was about but out of all the books there this is the one that made me wonder the most wtf it was about.

A boy and a black man get shipwrecked. The boy ends up going blind, and they have to survive. At least, thats what I recall. It was pretty solid from what I remember, surprised so few have mentioned it, maybe its not a popular choice.

To Kill a Mockingbird was solid, and I barely remember anything else about any other books we read. Though in elementary school, I really liked when we read The Cay.

I'm of the opinion that Season 3 (iirc the first season after he passed) was the only really good one. But then again I never got into machinima culture and only watched the show on recommendation from a friend.

Volume 1 was pure jank with some good fight scenes. 2 felt a lot cleaner, and also had solid fights. 3 was probably the best overall.

I feel bad for the many, many people losing their jobs, but this was a long time coming, truth be told.

For the record, it was indirectly told to us that this isnt happening. Her spirit or whatever is gone, and she wont reincarnate. The crow girl told Aqua this at some point I believe.

Its awkward to mark down exactly when Ive beaten a game. Some games like this and Hyrule Warriors DE, which I also just played, have endings/credits, but then still have more that would likely be considered main story. And it doesnt feel cleanly marked as postgame.

Oh I think I heard of this stuff on Twitter. Theres like a Steam Group or something. From my understanding, its not actually doing anything wrong, but people have been giving it attention which has made it blow up more than it probably needs to. If its petty, then just ignore it and let them do their own thing.

Pro-AI translations people being right-wingers is very unsurprising. I think there are reasonable criticisms of some translation things, but AI isnt a solution for this. Its just people lashing out who want that, it feels.

I dont want to get frustrated to the point I stop playing, but having no challenge at all is pretty lame. It can be a tough balance, especially considering different people have different skill levels.

I decided to play the Ace Attorney trilogy. Different than this kind of VN, but I wanted something that felt sort of similar, and it was a good excuse to finally try those games out. I can experience the burgers myself.

Hm, so I have a slightly different opinion on Chloe now. I was suspicious that she was just secretly screwed up, and she could still be, but the Fragments more indicate a CPP occurring cause of the abuse she had when training. Id been looking around for some theories, and I felt like Gunhild was a bit too obvious, but with the 2nd to last fragment, I see now why shes being looked into more. Lilja was actually suspect to me before, but its possible I was thinking it would be more than it seems to be. A fake personality, sure, but it might be limited to that.

Yeah.

I feel like I heard that the end of this game was something of a twist. There was one thing that seemed really strange, but it didn't feel like a twist as such. It was enjoyable. I might say the ending was the least interesting bit for me though, but maybe that's because certain things end up not being expanded on or explained fully.

I still have the Data Fragments to read.

Theyve been keeping on the optimistic -> pessimistic -> optimistic pattern pretty cleanly, but I guess thats how a lot of stories are, probably not worth commenting on, but I suppose the lack of gameplay makes it more evident in a sense. Anyway, there was a terrorist attack, but I havent yet seen the ramifications besides to Lingji. Kinda curious how far I am, I checked the how long to beat, and it said around 17 hours.

I like the way this game has discussed minorities of opinion. Where bad actors can basically ruin said opinion for others, causing people to be afraid of speaking up, out of fear of being lumped in with these bad actors. Ive suffered from this, though if I do espouse opinions that go against the grain, I try to make it very clear why Im taking my position. It doesnt mean people will agree with me, but at least, even if theyre dismissive, they dont necessarily write me off as a human being.

The game uses this as a war vs antiwar thing, but Id say its written in a way that people can easily make the association for any discussion.

In this game, the bad actors are called decoys, intentionally placed, and while I wouldnt be surprised if that type of thing existed in real life, I feel like its more people who have been radicalized, even over relatively unimportant things.

By accident I just realized theres a menu button where you can look at the basic info of characters and the factions and the like. Ive gotten a bit more used to them already, but this is helpful. Especially since some of the info is more background than anything.

I feel like Umineko (again, manga reader) was at its peak by Episode 3, then 4-6 were kinda iffy, but it recovered well by 7-8. Of course, the manga is apparently much clearer about some things

Theres a bit of information overload when they start talking about all the events happening in the world. I dont remember what all these acronyms stand for. I mean, I imagine its common for it to be somewhat confusing for people, but I should probably read a bit slower

Not really a VN guy, it's my first. I read the manga for Higurashi and Umineko and enjoyed them, especially Umineko, so I thought I'd check out one of the work's that has nothing like that. I'm still partway through, having just been introduced to the kings. One of those guys reminds me of Battler in terms of bodytype. I've heard that the VN has been benched for now due to world events.

Anyway, it's been enjoyable enough so far, but it threw a lot of characters at me all at once. Which, to be fair, I probably won't mind as I read more.
