THREE MONTHS AFTER Stranger Things: The First Shadow opened in London, the stage play based on the hit Netflix series is already plotting its move to Broadway.

According to Broadway World, casting notices for the Broadway run of the acclaimed play have already been posted, with an estimated opening date sometime in 2025. Like the London production, Stephen Daldry is listed as director of the New York City staging.

The prequel play written by Kate Trefry and based on an original story by Stranger Things creators the Duffer brothers opened in December 2023 at Londons Phoenix Theatre to better reviews than the past few seasons of the Netflix sci-fi drama.

The First Shadow serves as an origin story for what eventually take place in Hawkins, Indiana, with the play set in 1959 and featuring younger versions of Stranger Things characters like Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado, Henry Creel, Dr. Brenner, Bob Newby and other Hawkins denizens.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Louis McCartney, who plays Henry Creel in the stage production, talked about the possibility of The First Shadow crossing the Atlantic. Broadway is an exciting conversation, McCartney said. Obviously everybodys talking about it, and Id be more than chuffed to do it. But the thing is, the future holds a million possibilities. And theres some that I cant decide on. Theres things that the third party will decide. And Im just kind of open to everything.

In January, the Duffer brothers revealed that production on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things which was impacted by both the writers and actors strikes was back underway.

Film company Altitude Media Group has picked up a documentary that takes place entirely inside the world of Grand Theft Auto 5, and its called Grand Theft Hamlet, per Deadline.

The in-game production will cover the story of Sam Crane and Mark Oosterveen, two players with theatre backgrounds who took COVID-19 lockdowns in the UK as an opportunity to recreate Shakespeares Hamlet within Rockstar Games' fifth Grand Theft Auto title. With the future looking grim and lots of time on their hands, they embark on an adventure that sees them facing griefers and learning about the truths of life. You can read the full synopsis below:

January 2021. The UK is in its third lockdown and all entertainment venues remain closed. For theatre actors Sam and Mark, the future looks bleak. As the pandemic drags on, Mark single and childless is increasingly socially isolated, while Sam panics about how he is going to support his young family. They spend their days in the online digital world of Grand Theft Auto and when they stumble across a theater, they suddenly have an idea to stage a full production of Hamlet within the game. This film charts their ridiculous, hilarious and moving adventure as they battle violent griefers and discover surprising truths about life, friendship and the enduring power of Shakespeare.

Written and directed by Crane along with Peter and Ben director Pinny Grylls, the film will see its worldwide debut at the SXSW Film Festival on March 10. Its a pandemic-era story more than three years in the making that Altitude will bring to UK and Irish theaters later in 2024.

The COVID-19 lockdown inspired all sorts of creativity across gaming, and the GTA 5 community wasnt even the first to put on an in-game theatrical production. Fallout 76 players, for example, formed a group called The Wasteland Theatre Company, which saw them pulling together to recreate classic plays like A Midsummer Nights Dream.

In the movie, Grant is playing the actor who has to wear the Tony the Tiger suit to promote Frosted Flakes cereal. It was reported that Grant even filmed an audition for the role, marking the first time in 30 years he'd done so. On Grant's involvement in Unfrosted, Seinfeld said, That was the greatest part of the whole thing, honestly. Because I am a crazy fan of his. [Hugh] asked me if it matters that Tony the Tiger has a British accent. I told him, No, who cares?

Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story is inspired by a classic routine from Jerry Seinfeld's stand-up comedy. Seinfeld is directing the film and also served as a producer and co-writer. The movie will dive into the battle between Kellogg's and Post Cereal to create the ultimate breakfast pastry in the early 1960s. Seinfeld has assembled a star-studded cast to join Grant in the film, with other names set to appear including James Marsden, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, Jim Gaffigan, Christian Slater, Bill Burr, Dan Levy, Thomas Lennon, and Maria Bakalova.
