there's this misguided belief that by doing all the things white people like, maybe white people will treat us as white too.

The last thing I watched was Treehouse of Horror XXXV segment The Information Rage. Where it was basically saying Republicans and Democrats destroy every thing. It was like is the moral meant to be vote 3rd party in the 2024 election. After that segment ended I went back to not watching the show. Didnt even watch the other 2 segments.

Anti-Nazi media watchdog might close after attacks from Elon Musk & Trump administration

Media Matters the influential media watchdog group founded by out, onetime Republican media strategist David Brock is under threat of closure as lawsuits and investigations by Elon Musk and the Trump administration threaten to bankrupt it.

The organization, funded by some of the Democratic Partys biggest donors, has racked up about $15 million in legal fees over the past 20 months to defend itself against lawsuits by Musk, as well as investigations by Trumps Federal Trade Commission and Republican state attorneys general, The New York Times reports.

The group has slashed staff and is now dialing back its criticism of Musk and Trump in the face of the legal onslaught, according to sources in the organization. Plummeting staff morale, rising infighting, and security concerns are now plaguing the group, they say.

Media Matters made headlines in this and other publications in 2023 when they released a report revealing the dramatic rise in hate speech on X, and the platforms complicity in its ascent.

As X owner Elon Musk continues his descent into white nationalist and antisemitic conspiracy theories, his social media platform has been placing ads for major brands like Apple, Bravo (NBCUniversal), IBM, Oracle, and Xfinity (Comcast) next to content that touts Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party, Media Matters reported.

On the same day the group released the report, IBM issued a statement saying that it had suspended all advertising on X while we investigate this entirely unacceptable situation.

IBM has zero tolerance for hate speech and discrimination, the tech giant said. Apple followed shortly after.

Days later, the advertiser revolt included Disney, Paramount, NBCUniversal, Comcast, Lionsgate, Warner Bros. Discovery, and the Max streaming platform all ending their advertising on X.

Musk file suit against Media Matters, claiming that the group had manipulated data in its research about X. It was the start of a nearly two-year deluge of legal action by Musk against the nonprofit that included cases filed in the U.S., Singapore, and Ireland.

Attorneys General Ken Paxton of Texas (R) and Andrew Bailey of Missouri (R) followed Musks lead shortly thereafter, probing the tech billionaires claims and accusing Media Matters of defrauding donors in their states.

With Trumps return to the White House, the Federal Trade Commission also went after the group.

In May, the FT. launched an investigation into whether Media Matters and about a dozen other watchdog and advertising groups illegally colluded to dissuade companies from buying ads on X and other platforms, the Times reports. The commission has demanded internal communications among the watchdog groups to make their case, which continues despite Trump and Musks very public falling out.

Over 22 years, Media Matters has reported on Fox News obsession with Targets Pride merchandise, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirks white nationalist crusade, Tucker Carlsons complicity in bomb threats targeting gender-affirming care providers, and the rise of the term groomer among anti-LGBTQ+ activists in the far-right media ecosystem.

The group was founded in 2003 by media strategist David Brock, a self-described right-wing hit man and onetime darling of conservatives who switched allegiance to Democrats at the same time he came out as gay. Media Matters was his answer to undermining the far-rights dominant messaging machine.

Initially, the group targeted conservative talk radio and Fox News through fact-checking, advertiser boycotts, and what Brock described as guerrilla warfare and sabotage, before evolving into a journalistic outlet covering the rise of the alt-right and misinformation and hateful content online, including social media.

Brock stepped back from his founders role but returned to the nonprofit after Musks assault on the group. According to insiders, Brock has clashed with other leadership over a response to the coordinated attacks and has since been sidelined.

Future responses under consideration by Media Matters include declaring bankruptcy or making further concessions to Musk and government investigators to settle the litigation after earlier attempts failed to appease any of the parties. Those actions would only continue to undermine or end the mission of accountability and transparency that Media Matters was founded to pursue.

Publicly, the group remains steadfast.

Citing ABC News and CBS parent company Paramount, Angelo Carusone, the current president of Media Matters, said, Unlike some major media entities that have recently caved to pressure, we understand that this battle is larger than us. Thats why we continue to carry out our mission and fight in court.

Karoline Leavitt says the president plans to extort schools into ending gender-affirming care

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has claimed that the presidential administrations recent extortion of Brown University in Rhode Island will help end gender extremism and the institutions barbaric procedures of gender-affirming care for children, including the provision of puberty blockers (which Leavitt dishonestly refers to as chemical castration).

The deal, announced Wednesday, requires Brown University to pay $50 million over 10 years to state workforce development organizations (which the federal government will reimburse the university for), and to follow the presidents executive orders commanding institutions to ban transgender women from sports teams and facilities matching their gender identity and to discontinue provision of any gender-affirming medical care for minors. In exchange, the federal government will restore over $500 million in federal contracts and research grants that the administration illegally withheld without the necessary congressional approval.

During yesterdays White House press briefing, a reporter asked if the administration will prioritize ending gender-affirming care provided by other universities in the future.

Leavitt replied, Ending the chemical castration of children in our country is a priority of this administration. Weve talked to many of these universities about it, but also the President has also taken very strong action to cut off the funding for any medical institution in this country that provides those barbaric procedures.

Despite Leavitts use of the frightening-sounding term chemical castration, reputable medical organizations, including the Endocrine Society and the World Health Organization, have stated that puberty blockers do not cause irreversible infertility. Gender-affirming surgeries are almost never conducted on trans minors, and almost all major medical associations consider the use of puberty blockers in trans kids to be safe, effective, and essential for their overall well-being.

Leavitt claimed that the extortion deal was yet another win to root out antisemitic behavior on our nations college campuses and unlawful racial discrimination, which are the administrations demonizing terms for pro-Palestinian protests and diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI) initiatives.

The administration has kidnapped and detained pro-Palestinian college and university activists under the pretense that they threaten national security by leading on-campus protests and writing editorials in student publications.

Brown is the third Ivy League school, alongside Columbia and Harvard, to cave to the administrations demands that they end all DEI initiatives and trans-inclusive policies under the illegal threat of losing hundreds of millions in federal education funding.

When commenting on Columbias similar extortion settlement, Department of Education Secretary Linda McMahon admitted, This is a monumental victory for conservatives who wanted to do things on these elite campuses for a long time because we had such far left-leaning professors. Her comment undermined the administrations claims about its primary goal being to protect students from antisemitism and discrimination.

During the briefing, Leavitt also claimed that Brown Universitys agreement to ban trans women from womens sports is helping womens sports. Critics of trans sports bans have noted that such bans do nothing to stop the unequal funding and abuse that harm female athletes.

In a statement, Brown President Christina Paxson noted that the universitys agreement with the federal administration includes a clause preventing the government from dictating the schools curriculum or the content of academic speech.

The Universitys foremost priority throughout discussions with the government was remaining true to our academic mission, our core values, and who we are as a community at Brown, Paxson said. We stand solidly behind commitments we repeatedly have affirmed to protect all members of our community from harassment and discrimination, and we protect the ability of our faculty and students to study and learn academic subjects of their choosing, free from censorship.

Paxson didnt mention how the university plans will protect trans students from discrimination while forcing them to use bathrooms and locker rooms that do not align with their gender identity.

There's a video of him being asked by a reporter "So should we just not trust numbers then?" and he replies "Yes, we shouldn't trust numbers."

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. has removed references to President Trump's two first-term impeachments from an exhibit following a review. The Smithsonian said the references will be restored once the exhibit is updated, but did not provide a timeline.

The exhibit, titled "The American Presidency: A Glorious Burden" includes reference to the impeachments of Presidents Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton and the Watergate scandal that engulfed President Richard Nixon, who resigned rather than face certain impeachment. A temporary label was added in 2021 to include President Trump's impeachments in 2019 and again in 2021, just days before the end of his first term.

But the reference to Trump's impeachments was removed last month. The Smithsonian said in a statement to NPR that after a recent review of the museum's "legacy content," it was decided to pull the reference to Trump's impeachments which were placed on the exhibit in September 2021 pending a more substantial overhaul of the exhibit.

"Because the other topics in this section had not been updated since 2008, the decision was made to restore the Impeachment case back to its 2008 appearance," the statement said. The label on Trump's impeachments was "intended to be a short-term measure to address current events at the time, however, the label remained in place until July 2025," the Smithsonian said.

"A large permanent gallery like The American Presidency that opened in 2000,requires [a] significant amount of time and funding to update and renew. A future and updated exhibit will include all impeachments," the statement said, without providing a timetable for the exhibit's update.

Last month's removal of the label follows a confrontation between the White House and Kim Sajet, director of the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. Trump attempted to dismiss Sajet in late May, calling her "a highly partisan person, and a strong supporter of DEI." In response, Smithsonian released a statement on June 9 reaffirming its status as an "independent entity" that operates "free from political or partisan influence."

The Smithsonian's Board of Regents said that, moving forward, museum directors and staff would be given "specific expectations" for content, along with "reasonable time" to implement any necessary changes to ensure content remains unbiased. Sajet later resigned.

In March, the president issued an executive order, "Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History," that it said was meant to address "a concerted and widespread effort to rewrite our Nation's history, replacing objective facts with a distorted narrative driven by ideology rather than truth."

He singled out the Smithsonian Institution and said the administration would seek "to remove improper ideology from such properties."

In an email to NPR, White House Spokesperson Davis Ingle wrote: "Unfortunately for far too long the Smithsonian museums have highlighted divisive, DEI exhibits which are out of touch with mainstream America."

"We are fully supportive of updating displays to highlight American greatness. The Trump administration will continue working to ensure that the Smithsonian removes all improper ideology and once again unites and instills pride in all Americans regarding our great history," he said.
