It's also gimped in terms of hardware power, and MS needs to reach out for better 3rd party support. A laptop wouldn't also be gimped? Kamen_Rider_Blade posted... Streaming will always suck compared to playing it on the original device. Local streaming works really well and covers most use cases. Kamen_Rider_Blade posted... True, if that's your only option. There are better options at home for console style gaming and there are better options outside for console style gaming. Not much room for a dedicated laptop. They can take it on the go, have Wireless LAN Parties or Wired LAN Parties. The Switch does this with a better form factor and more local multiplayer games to boot. Kamen_Rider_Blade posted... The form factor inherently opens up avenues of play that a console that is tied to the living room / TV wouldn't allow. You can currently stream Xbox games to a laptop or phone. If you're out and about a handheld is a better form factor. --- A Fallen Mascot |

Punished_Blinx 03/27/24 1:39:35 AM #135 | Switch is still overall a handheld device. Their worst selling handheld is still 76 million.
Xbox would likely be happy if their consoles sold that well. The Switch benefited from consolidating their dying home console market into the handheld market and leveraging it as both. I don't really see how a console designed like a laptop relates to any of this. We have seen stuff like the PSOne before. It's just a novelty gimmick that doesn't compare to a proper gaming laptop which also isn't some massively booming industry either. It doesn't solve a single issue they currently have. People are apathetic about Xbox hardware. I don't see how making an Xbox laptop somehow solves that issue. --- A Fallen Mascot |

Punished_Blinx 03/27/24 12:03:46 AM #46 | In a way this Rock is more similar to his Babyface persona back in the day anyway. His character was a cocky asshole who thought he was better than everyone but also knew how to back that up and liked to fight.
This Final Boss persona is a clever evolution of that character. He's no longer the scrappy smartass. He's a rich businessman. He's a movie star. He's on the board of the company. He is now built like a tank. He's still overall bigger and more popular than anyone else in the company since his peak. He's related to the heel faction that the current face is running against. But he's still an asshole. It all works pretty well. He could transition to a face whenever though. Like it's The Rock. Even if he's the villain people are going to cheer when his music hits. If anything I think this loud mouth persona is what his movies often lack. So many of his roles are just buff nice guy heroes. The Rock is at his best when he is insulting and demeaning the people around him whether he was a face or heel. But I get that he has a brand that he wants to sell. --- A Fallen Mascot |

Their entire livelihood in that area depends on the coal industry most of the time. So yeah I'm a little bit sympathetic when they see these towns they grow up in absolutely shrink, crumble and decay due to major economies gradually shut down and leave. An economy that likely has given them all the skills that they know. But these coal companies are complete trash as well. They do not have the interests of people as a priority. Punished_Blinx 03/26/24 10:38:20 PM #121 | Laptops are multi-use devices. People can buy them for gaming but also for other PC related tasks. Digital libraries also mean that people can play their existing games on as a secondary device. So yes it makes sense that people use that flexibility for stuff like LAN parties.
But that's way too niche case for basing an entire console around a laptop. For one a console means you need to lug around a controller as well. You can buy a Series S and an xScreen for a pretty affordable price. But why not just get a gaming laptop at that point. It can even play Xbox games anyway. --- A Fallen Mascot |

The way MS prices Game Pass, they inadvertently incentivize gamers to just play on PC instead of getting a console. PC Game Pass (at least the last time I had it) was noticeably cheaper than Xbox Game Pass, and it came with additional content like free games from EA's library. It's priced lower to facilitate growth on PC. With it still having the lower price they're probably not seeing the growth there that they were hoping for. Overall the problem is that console players would rather play on PlayStation, PC players would rather play on Steam and there's not much growth for cloud. --- A Fallen Mascot |

Was this after the attitude era? Oh yeah it was still very much there. It's also a trickier thing to actually get people outraged over as women's matches were mostly terrible for years. It was hard to argue that keeping the scantily clad women for Bra and Panties matches was better for the product to wrestling smarks and it's obvious that women who wanted to be taken seriously were being held back by guys like Vince McMahon. Punished_Blinx 03/26/24 5:51:03 PM #93 | The thing is Microsoft doesn't want to compete in the traditional sense. They don't look at Playstation and think that's where they want to be. Even Playstation is struggling to figure out how to monetize their games long term and where to demonstrate growth. Which is why they're porting their games to PC and releasing a shitload of expensive accessories and are desperate to find GAAS hits.
Microsoft's gamble was that they would become the Netflix of gaming. That it doesn't matter if people played their games on an Xbox console, PC or cloud. It does make sense but their overall problem is that people actually don't really care about playing a large library of games on a subscription. The far majority of people they are targeting are fine sticking with a GAAS title and the odd game they want to buy if that. Valve and Steam overall hit their goal in a lot more effective way than Xbox has managed to and that's even more sad considering they are mostly on Windows. In a way their purchase of Activision was already their exit plan. If Xbox hardware and services flatlines well they can leverage all that stuff to get the growth and monthly users they want that way. They can pivot and leverage their content however they like. --- A Fallen Mascot |

Punished_Blinx 03/26/24 5:38:06 PM #87 | The traditional business model may be better for AAA third party support and sales. But overall I dunno if it would have worked out better for Xbox. Console sales and software/subscription revenue would be worse than they are now. The latter of which is their saving grace even with their lethargic hardware sales.
The issue for Xbox is that Playstation and Nintendo continue to be the more popular brand for console gaming. Most people are completely fine with sticking with Playstation and Nintendo and it doesn't really matter what Xbox and Microsoft are doing. I don't think kids and teenagers care about Xbox at all. --- A Fallen Mascot |

Punished_Blinx 03/25/24 11:14:55 PM #1 | There's a pretty weird trajectory for Stone Cold after Wrestlemania X7. He turns heel and becomes a cowardly character. But he has fun with it.
Things basically go to shit around Wrestlemania X8. Doesn't show up on the Raw afterwards. Starts complaining publicly about how he's being used. Apparently throws in the towel because he is due to lose to Brock Lesnar on Raw and WWE itself starts shitting on him for letting people down. They do manage to patch things up before Wrestlemania XIX and he has one last match with The Rock and basically quits wrestling for good (or at least for two decades). So overall what was the deal? Was he not feeling it anymore? Was his neck injury becoming too much and he didn't want to admit it? Did he outright not want to pass the torch to the new guys and wanted to go out on his own terms? It's funny because we often hear about the diva politics with wrestlers like Hogan, The Rock and Shawn Michaels but Stone Cold overall manages to not be brought up as much even though his fallout was very sudden and public. If you asked Boomers if they turned out fine, they'd probably think they did as well. The hope is to prevent the kind harm we only now acknowledge in hindsight. It's more that just because there are rules it doesn't mean that they really mean anything. Pretty much all social media sites say that you need to be 13 years old and older to watch and use them. YouTube has parental locks for parents to use for their kids. But kids are kids. Kids won't follow established rules if they're stopping them from doing something they enjoy. Just the western version of 1000 year old loli. He was at least 18. I think they aged him up to his 20s later. I don't really think the loli comparison is valid either. The 1000 year old loli is justification for older men to lust over someone who looks like a child. This is stuff specifically designed for teenage girls.
