Think of it this way. Multiple, perhaps dozens of assaults/ violent crimes take place on NYC subways each day. Even if you are not a victim yourself, theres a significant chance you will witness one of these crimes. Its not even close to lottery odds territory.

Im pulling numbers out of my ass here, but Im willing to bet the odds of witnessing or being victimized by crime each day on the NYC subway is closer to 1 in 10,000 than it is 1 in 4 million.

Sure, change the parameters and things change, obviously.

The point is, fear mongering about how dangerous subways are, then cite statistics where there's fewer than 300 violent attacks, or 500 altercations a year and it's astonishingly low.

I guarantee a season of football at any stadium gets just as many incidents as this, and that's 10-12 events a year.

The point is, when this many people are this densely packed, shits gonna happen, but these numbers are startlingly low, considering there's now a half dozen posters claiming it's incredibly dangerous to ride one.

In short stop fear mongering this bullshit.

They let children play it first and go from there.

Eggs for me were always around 1.79. I'd buy a dozen every few weeks, covid hit and they dropped to 1.29, then post covid they jacked up to 4 to 8 dollars.

Can't tell me it's not price gouging.

I'm guessing the people dismissing the subway crime numbers as a small percentage have never been a victim of a NYC subway crime.

I have to imagine a lot of people don't report the crimes and just go on with day. Im in NYC and just yesterday a guy was standing by the door during rush hour and people were pushing him as they got off. He got into an argument with one of the people and punched them. I checked the news and that didn't even make the news. I imagine more minor stuff like this happen and goes unreported.

Yes I haven't been a victim, because as I stated, it's one in a million or so of it happening. Nearly all subway riders can attest to the same.

"Best" thing I ever heard was when I worked at a botanical store. This 19 year old coworker came up to me during break and told me she was quitting due to starting college again. Our boss had told her he'd be paying out all her overtime as discount certificates for the store. Not even gift certificates, but discounts. Considering we worked 12 hour days, 6 days a week, that was a lot of money he was trying to screw her out of. She was so confused and inexperienced at dealing with scumbags which lead her to take the offer until she told me about it and I told her to march into his office, demand actual payment and threaten to call the cops on him.

Wage theft is the scummiest of all non violent theft.

Back when I was 17, I worked through this summer job program that partnered with local businesses. They put me at a small summer camp.

The owner tried to guilt trip me into working more hours than I was legally allowed to as a minor. Saying that if I cared about the kids then it wouldn't matter and all this other stuff. I reported her to the program

I worked at a movie theater when I was 16 and was fired because I got a bunch of timeclock violations and the government was breathing down their necks. The kicker was I didn't make my own schedule nor did I schedule my own breaks. Somehow I was to blame for working too much and not taking breaks.

Thankfully the general manager of the theater moved to another theater a little bit before to manage their opening and offered me a supervisor job there after finding out what happened, knowing they were full of shit.

When I first started my boss played a few mind games with me to get me to work harder. So I did to get him off my back. Got a fat ass bonus this year and a decent raise but now Im burnt out as fuck. Havent been very productive lately because of it.

Precisely why a 32 hour work week is a great idea.

Yeah, I missed the original run, but luckily the theater in the luxury mall screened it 2 weeks ago. Funny thing is, for how fancy the mall is, the theater is total crap. They didnt have movie theater popcorn, only bags of skinny pop, and 20oz. bottles of Coke(no freestyle machine)And the screen was tiny.

Making things more accessible is what stopped me pirating in 2017. Movie pass, along with streaming services and VOD led me to stop pirating altogether.

There were like 3 reasons I pirated stuff, no commercials, instant viewing(no reason to get up, grab a DVD set and insert a disc and then choose the episode), and the availability of everything, so I didn't need to wait for a DVD box set to rewatch a show or movie.

It was basically the accessibility of everything. Now that nearly everything is near readily available, I feel no need. I probably pay like 40 a month to avoid pirating and honestly, I'm fine with that.

Seems like I was conflating some stories. There's one where a first grade teacher's gun went off, another where it went off and ricocheted into a kids neck, then another where it went off in a bathroom into another room.
