That's not abnormal I'd say. Particularly if you're a very sexually active person.

Assuming she started around 16 that's about 4-5 people per year.

Not too crazy.

Well I'd certainly argue "do as little as possible is false"

As has been said repeatedly it's rather telling that you think black people and other minority groups are so stupid, ignorant, and unaware that they'd be swindled for several decades by something like this.

Anyway

Let's pretend for a sec that you're right. I'd still make the argument that "looking pretty and doing as little as possible" is better than "looking horrible and doing absolutely nothing"

What's the quote, out of curiosity?

There are few, I believe, in this enlightened age, who will not acknowledge that slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil. It is idle to expatiate on its disadvantages. I think it is a greater evil to the white than to the colored race. While my feelings are strongly enlisted in behalf of the latter, my sympathies are more deeply engaged for the former. The blacks are immeasurably better off here than in Africa, morally, physically, and socially. The painful discipline they are undergoing is necessary for their further instruction as a race, and will prepare them, I hope, for better things. How long their servitude may be necessary is known and ordered by a merciful Providence.

Good lord

Very big "white man's burden" vibe from this

This made me google voter ID supreme court and they are denying voter ID laws left and right.

Same as with gerrymandering.

Most courts don't take issue with it usually unless you can actually prove it was done with the intent of disenfranchising certain groups and minorities.

Given that's pretty much the modus operandi for the GOP at the state level in the last few years (take over a state legislature and/or governorship, institute voter ID laws to target groups that usually vote Democrat, and then redraw the districts to cut down on the number of seats that could potentially fall to Democrats in the state)

It's actually a rather horrid and pretty insidious perversion of our electoral system.

That's the one downside of the Defenders.

Personally for me, the Hand just isn't interesting or believable.

It makes sense in DD seasons 1+2 (mostly), Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage (mostly) in that the entire reason these plots are possible is because the actual superheroes of the world are more focused on larger threats.

A ninja death cult with members all over the world trying to infiltrate companies and world governments? Seems like the sort of thing the Avengers would be all over.

But when it's smaller scale and lower stakes, it makes sense. Oh there's some guy who maybe has connections to organized crime? Oh there's some random dude offing mobsters? Oh there's this guy in purple who has maybe kinda done bad stuff? Oh there's a black organized crime guy in Harlem? None of the actual superheroes give a shit about that, so it's all on these street level guys to deal with it.

And yes, the background with "the War" and shit is like Iunno maybe it's just not written right, or maybe it's the issue I mentioned above but it just feels so... Iunno if "forced" or "tacked on" is the right phrase for it?

Which sucks, because there's notes of it that I like. Stuff like Gao, Nobu, Black Sky.

A lot of immigrants and minorities who were affected by the Depression were won over by the New Deal.

FDR also payed lip service to civil rights causes though they were not something he pursued in office.

The housing bubble was created by government regulations, not the removal of them. Paul Krugman actually advocated for actively creating a housing bubble in order to stimulate the economy. Well done, Keynesians.

The combination of the CRA and the government giving banks a safety net for if their loans fail are examples of government intervention in the private market, and that created the recession, not "conservative policy".

http://fcic-static.law.stanford.edu/cdn_media/fcic-reports/fcic_final_report_conclusions.pdf

"the crisis was avoidable and was caused by: Widespread failures in financial regulation, including the Federal Reserve’s failure to stem the tide of toxic mortgages; Dramatic breakdowns in corporate governance including too many financial firms acting recklessly and taking on too much risk; An explosive mix of excessive borrowing and risk by households and Wall Street that put the financial system on a collision course with crisis; Key policy makers ill prepared for the crisis, lacking a full understanding of the financial system they oversaw; and systemic breaches in accountability and ethics at all levels."

Sephiroth1288 posted...
illegal immigration at record low

And has been dropping consistently since 2008, Mal.

So let's go over it,

- Trump wants to double down on the moronic conservative economic policies that helped cause the worst recession in decades

- Because of both his and the GOP's complete and utter incompetence, the government itself is paralyzed with inaction (contrary to your conservative wet dreams, this is actually not a very good thing)

- He's an incredibly divisive president. Has shown no desire to reach out to people who do not support him or are unnerved by his administration/rhetoric, and instead feels the need to simply stroke off his base.

- Alienates our allies around the world

- Unable to condemn a domestic terror attack for days, and when all was done still ended up basically siding with the people that committed the attack

Trump is not a stabilizing element. There's a lot of signs of trouble domestically, to say nothing of the moves certain hostile nations are making (Russia arming the Taliban in Afghanistan again, China making moves, etc) and Trump himself, both by his actions or temperament, doesn't seem to care, or seems to be making the problems worse.

Haven't kept up with the New EU much.

But I'd love to see something set after the Galactic Concordance. The New Republic liberated the Core, Coruscant, and the Inner Rim systems.

Those places, especially Coruscant would've been fully populated with citizens that for 20 years were essentially brainwashed by the Empire.

Was there a de-Nazification style program (like in Germany post WWII)? were prominent Imperials tried publicly for war crimes? Was there some sort of forced integration of aliens back into society?

Counting on these nazis to respect your city is a lot like counting on a wasp not to sting you

A wasp won't sting you as long as you don't fuck with it.

You're thinking of bees.
