Most of the time, the shit that i do has a negative connotation to it. when someone wants to investigate a spouse for cheating, they usually are cheating. when someone needs papers served, people usually get upset and sometimes violent.

in general, most people only hire a PI for the bad. its nice to be able to work on the good once in a while.

granted, my last adoption case didnt exactly end on the best note, but i still felt like i got to do sometime positive for once.

just fyi, that united flight wasn't overbooked.

they wanted the seats for their staff.

And they had to give those seats to the staff because union rules state that they have to have a certain # of attendants on every flight and they needed them in their destination city

So the airline had to choose between pissing off its customers or pissing off the union (they will always choose the customer in that case)

With the end result being flights are leaving with empty seats. So we either have to force airlines to be altruistic and fuck their bottom lines or the government (my money) has to pay them to subsidize the lost revenue.

Instead of just allowing them to do what they've been doing for however many years and letting them buy those seats back at a premium because one guy got smacked by an overzealous rent-a-cop.

exactly. government regulation is black and white, and that is just plain stupid.

there is a middle ground.

for example, offer "overbook" tickets. if the flight is already full, and you try to book, you get guaranteed vouchers/hotels when they are unable to fly you, and you walk into the airport with the knowledge that you could be bumped. its not unexpected, and a tantrum of any sort would be completely unjustified. the airline has now solved the problem and covered their asses.

i came up with that about 20 seconds after hearing this story. untied has plenty of people they can pay good money to come up with an even better idea.

Regulation would stop overbookings in the first place, streamline the system and make seat uptake smoother (so more mula per minute)

so

1. we can either let the government try to regulate retroactively (which they are all notoriously shitty at), still have the same issues arise, and spend taxpayer money to try to fix the problems

or

2. we can let the free market self regulate, and correct the problem at the expense of the people/businesses responsible instead

jeff has ALWAYS been that selfish, at least on some level. are you forgetting that the show started off with him creating a fake study group under the premise that he was a "board certified spanish tutor" so that he could sleep with britta?

abed on the other hand i can 100% agree with, but in his case it started during season 5 when troy left. without troy to soften him, abed becomes a gigantic asshole


i would need examples on the other characters, but i would also say that the show seems to undergo a pretty serious tone shift every season.

Are they stupid? This situation proves exactly why that regulation isn't needed. United is already taking a massive PR hit and this is likely to cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars at minimum.

united will be forced to change policies so that this does not happen again, and meanwhile other airlines will be offering whatever deals they can and have to in order to snake as many customers away from them as possible.

bing bang boom, free market solves the problem on its own. capitalism always wins folks

The doctor was well within his rights to refuse giving up his seat.

Read the contract that you are agreeing to when you buy a ticket with united and you will see that indeed he was NOT within his rights to refuse.

Don't like it? Good. You shouldnt. The solution is to either buy a private jet, don't fly, or just put up with it.

You're being thick dude, there were much better ways for United to handle this. They could have continued to offer the compensation at a higher rate. But instead they decided it was head bashing time. Who is being more unreasonable, the guy who wants to continue to sit in the seat he paid for, or the company that would rather have someone assaulted than pay out an amount over $800 ?

Again, lets realize that this is the only logical conclusion to their practice of overbooking.

It is possible for BOTH parties to be wrong. Not one fucking person, including ziggi, is saying united deserves a free pass on this. What he IS saying is that the dude made a complete ass out of himself and acted like a child, which is true.

It's bad press for united, and deservedly so, but if I was this guy's friend I would rag on him for the rest of his life over how he handled it. Could have done a lot more harm to the company if he'd handled it differently.
