cosmic star heroine is pretty good. I find myself playing it in 30 minute chunks but it sure feels like a lost SNES RPG.

yeah, I'm with you on Mario 64 and Mario RPG being better than Mario 3 and FF1 -- though I think 'slaughter' is way too strong -- but I'm still on the side of 2000 here.

if people were smart they'd think back to the n64, the console itself and not the games, as being a real failure for its controller and lack of cd technology but whatevs

FF5 is just infinitely replayable with different modifiers that really enhance how deep the job system is. for anyone curious, I recommend trying the four job fiesta that will start up in about a month. I play through FF5 multiple times a year.

Xenosaga 2's better in just about every way. better battle system, better music (might be the best OST on the PS2?), better story, etc. Xenosaga 1's scope and attention to detail is better but that's about it. it's not very fun to play.

I played about 3-4 hours of 13-2 and had to turn it off. it was just too rough for me. I never finished 13 either - I got pretty far but I moved in with my fiance and lost access to that PS3.

He seems to like some of the SMT style and 2 was pretty solid.

I can see why he wouldn't enjoy The World Ends With You (assuming he's played it)

Other than that, the only big franchise he's made it clear he doesn't really care about is Pokemon.

I think I might have played the beginning of Devil Survivor 1? never played 2. I don't remember why I didn't like it but I know I didn't.

TWEWY I also played the beginning of and bailed on. it just didn't hit me the right way.

Super Mario RPG is really overrated though, and this being on the list instead of others is only because I want to assume you don't consider Superstar Saga, Bowser Inside Story, Paper Mario and Paper Mario TTYD "JRPG"s

Final Fantasy order can go many ways but having the first one so high? really? the game aged badly and even when playing the GBA remake it's pretty mediocre
V is amazing but I wouldn't have it over IX and VI tbh

Superstar Saga was 53, for whatever that's worth.
