Kamigawa's story/lore is interesting to me because on one hand, it really doesn't feel like Magic, or at least didn't at the time when excursions to non-Western fantasy settings were a lot rarer. I also remember lots of people thinking Kamigawa existed just to court the YuGiOh crowd and being annoyed with that -- I'm not sure how true it was, but that was the perception and it makes some sense to me.

But all the lore is also really really well done and original and just plain cool. I'm sure your lore post will cover it so I won't talk about it until then but it really didn't deserve the reception it got.

If it's not scary to you, imagine a future where your side loses, and Jefferson Davis's history of the Civil War becomes the standard textbook in schools. That book has about 5 pages of poorly written argument about why the South was good and the North bad for every one historical fact it contains. He was evidently not a great propagandist. Imagine it rewritten, with the same message to fact ratio.

Right, but it also means that they haven't mentally committed themselves to rejecting facts and logic. Take Richard Spencer -- dude has, like, an MA. I mean, it happens, there are stories of it, but I don't have a lot of faith in it working at an institutional level that isn't really concerned with rehabilitation at all anyway.

I guess if the serial killer has their own ideological backing of "no humans deserve life" or whatever then it'll be the same or harder. But if it's "I killed three people for reasons A, B, and C" then I think it's a lot easier to address that situation and find potential for rehabilitation there.

...But unless either of us has actual stats it's just intuition. I'm not claiming I have a bunch of evidence to support my feelings here.

Like, I'm super-happy to see it down in general, but I do sincerely wish these kinds of monuments were kept to museums so in that sense it's not right. I'm not gonna mourn too much, but this appropriate movement to remove the honor of the Confederacy in public spaces does suck in the sense that these pieces should still be available for historical study in a dedicated private space elsewhere.

The broken statue can still be put in a museum though. I'd say being smashed by anti-KKK protesters actually makes it way more interesting of a museum object, too!
