well, I'm slightly exaggerating for effect, but otherwise I mean that your joints get injured WAY easier (mine do, at least), similar to what helly said.

you get around it by moving slower and more carefully. if you tried zipping around like a 20 year old parkourer (traceur?) you'd injure something fast, a knee, an ankle, a shoulder, etc.

as I mentioned, that scenario has already basically happened, if you bend the details slightly (ok, and ignore the 'starts a new religion' part). the mayans had thousands of stone books and they were all destroyed and reduced down to three, and what we know of their civilization stems mostly from those three books. (reading about it, the number may be four and not three.)

I guess yeah. it's not like they should say "we will have the $250 million at such and such an address where it will be destroyed", but I would think they'd just omit the location rather than saying "a secret location".

in some sense, it's the "real" system shock 3, with Painkiller being the "real" Doom 3. I love how intensely scary it was.

It relied too much on jump scares from dark corners. That's lazy horror imo.

who cares if it's "lazy", if it's effective? try playing it with loud 5.1 sound alone in the dark. I love how I was literally terrified of moving to the next room. there were at least a few times I was so scared I couldn't shoot straight. only game I've ever played and had that intense a fear reaction to it.

It's never going to be like that. In the past, there was absolutely no sure way to preserve information. Stone tablets and 2,000 year old scrolls happen to be fragile. On top of that, things had to be manually chiselled or written out, copying from preexisting text or oral records, massively limiting the availability of information that wasn't oral tradition.

Now everything is saved on the internet. We have literal digital copies of nearly every literary work or record on the planet. In order for that to disappear, you'd have to destroy every major city and server hub. At that point, we'd probably already be extinct.

Also, more importantly, though archaeological mix ups do happen, researchers tend to be pretty good at determining the context of a lot of works.

most digital information technology won't even last 100 years let alone 50,000. reading about it, even M-discs which are designed to be "permanent" only theoretically last 1000 years.

well, that's one way of looking at it. if there's an official version of that term feel free to post it.

but it can also mean something else. one way of looking at a "game" is as a set of rules/constraints through which a player attempts to guide himself. what you can't do is just as important as what you can do. something like an infinite money glitch "breaks" the game by breaking one or more of the constraints that are supposed to be in place. that's why it can be fun at first and then not so fun later. at first you like the freedom of having the constraint removed, but then subconsciously realize that that was part of what was making it a game in the first place.

speaking of religion Ive often wondered when this topic comes up as to how they could think that humans are born perfect yet they are quite happy to see the foreskin as a design flaw I mean if they think that then why have they not sent a letter to whatever denomination they subscribe to addressed to "god" complaining about this issue.

one way of looking at it is:
- "god" isn't a literal being, he/it is just "the universe", "the chaotic world".
- humans at some point discovered that they could improve the future by sacrificing things in the present.
- burnt offerings/sacrifices are an attempt to celebrate (or superstitiously invoke) this concept by sacrificing something of value in the present.
- circumcision is a more permanent attempt to "make a deal with the world" (covenant) that you will sacrifice something of real significance now for benefits later. it's sort of like a karma thing.

even though it's steeped in superstition, it does makes some sense at a very base level and it is better to be aware of the idea of sacrifice and be a person who is willing to make sacrifices. being able to withhold satisfaction in the short term for benefits in the long-term is one thing that majorly separates us from other animals.

approaching 10 or so times, if we count things like wasps with "bees", but it's hard to say. at least 6 or 7.

once or twice as a kid that I can barely remember

once, mowing the lawn, the white wooden fence had a wasp nest on it and the vibration of the lawn mower stirred the nest. I only got stung once if I recall, and after I was able to get close enough to the nest to douse it completely with half a can of Raid.

once doing papers, a wasp followed me into my car and got me square in the middle of the back of my hand as I reached for the gear shift. that one hurt like hell and my whole hand swelled up like one giant mosquito bite.

once doing papers, this house had a porch that was completely shrouded by bushes, and yet they wanted the paper in the mailbox. unfortunately somewhere in there was a wasp nest, and a small swarm of them followed me as I left the house. one got me on the leg, and I limped for half a block while getting stung a second and third time on that same leg. realizing they weren't going away, I stopped, bent down, and started flicking the two or three wasps that were still on my damn leg. had to finish the next few hours of work limping around on a triple wasp stung leg.

Thats the responsibility for schools around here.

well, it's like the most important thing in terms of learning from a young age. some kids don't get taught and then end up not knowing how right away and it just slows everything down. or worse end up in grade 3-4 or higher without knowing.

think of it like an RTS or something. in an education strategy game, learning to read would be like the first thing to get taken care of as soon as you possibly could, because everything else stems from that one thing.

OP specifically said "they're not brandishing a weapon" and "you've locked eyes with them". it's "what do you do in that moment where all you know is they're there, and they know you've seen them".

IRL it depends largely on what *they* do. this is why I said I do nothing at first. if they do nothing too, then I start yelling, and if they continue to do nothing I get a weapon (depending where I am, the getting a weapon part may have started earlier). ultimately, either they attack and a fight ensues, or they flee and I secure the door/window and call the police.

when I worked at night I used to sleep in two ~4 hour halves. I don't recommend it, you're like always tired and ready for the next short sleep. you spend way more of your day in tired mode, rather than alert and awake mode.

I seem to like Mystery Heroes a bunch more than regular mode (Quick Play). normally, you have to think about who to pick, and you wonder if you should be playing that character or not, or who else you should play, and who synergizes better with the other players, etc.etc.

you're also possibly "pigeon holed" into a particular character. no one's a healer and you haven't picked? guess I'm Mercy or Ana...

but with random heroes, it's the opposite. here's who you are, now make the most it. really like who you are? don't want to die and lose them.
