| wolfy42 06/20/17 5:09:20 PM #17 | I have a mental problem. I wash my hair, and then use the suds to wash the rest of me, instead of using up my bar of soap. | Topic | Uber adds tipping |
| wolfy42 06/20/17 5:07:54 PM #17 | Well this sucks. I was just considering giving up driving, selling my cars and just using Uber, but only if it's going to be fairly cost effective. If I can go shopping for $10, then it's the same cost as getting it delivered (well you can get it delivered for 5 with a 4 hour window I guess), and free if over $150...but still), and it's a bit more then gas etc, but when you factor in insurance + registration each year etc, it would be pretty close, and convienent. But yeah, if I have to tip (and if it's an option/normal I'm gonna tip don't wanna make people feel bad), thats going to destroy any chance of it being cost effective, or worth the inconvienence of not having my own car. $5 for a mile or two drive, so 10$ total round trip I can see, but if you gotta tip that is gonna add at least $2 each way, bringing it up to $14 already. I guess it's still not that bad, especially if I shop once a week, but I'm willing to bet the min is gonna be more like $8 each way anyway, which brings it up to $20 a pop. Just not worth it. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! Join today by putting it in your sig. |

| wolfy42 06/20/17 3:17:32 PM #2 | I was just thinking about trying uber, but wait, isn't the freaking money you pay them a tip...cause they are driving you? I mean there is no overhead right (other then gas which I imagine is not even 1/20th of the price they charge). Does the uber system take a portion of what they make or something? I mean if someone spend 10 minutes driving me somewhere and I pay then 10$, they are freaking making a buck a minute, I don' t think they need to be tipped as well. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! | Topic | How long does it usually take you to take a shower? |
| wolfy42 06/20/17 3:11:23 PM #5 | Depends on which shower, if I'm working, and what temp it is outside. Also if it is raining or has rained recently. I generally take 3 showers a day, but almost always at least 2. Sometimes I take 4-5. It's relaxing. A fast shower for me is around 5 minutes. A norm is probably about 10 minutes. If I have a headache, a cold, or just don't feel well, then maybe 15 minutes max. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! Join today by putting it in your sig. |

| wolfy42 06/20/17 2:35:20 PM #47 | Judgmenl posted... Ogurisama posted...This is why I would rather buy then rent, mortgages are usually cheaper then rental costs My wife LOVED the tiny house movement, watched the show all the time, and wanted us to move into one when we moved to WA (thank god I talked her out of that). They can be extremely cheap (cheaper even then mobile homes...which depending on your area can be extremely cheap as well). To be honest, if you are not currently paying rent where you live, and can afford $1500 a month in rent, saving that for a year would let you have enough to easily afford a down payment on a mobile home or a tiny house. You can often get them for as cheap as $20-30k. The tiny house has the advantage of actually owning the land it's on though, a mobile home needs to rent space, which depending on the area, might cost as much as renting a studio apartment anyway!!! Here is a list of tiny homes in your area...the cheapest is $15k (so 10 months of you saving), but you can actually get them for less (remember listing prices like this are usually towards the top of the cost range as it costs money to list). Should be mentioned that you are NOT tied down at all to such homes, in fact they have FAR better/easier resale/turn around then normal homes or even mobile homes (due to lower price, often loans are not even needed etc). If you have a job that pays enough for you to afford $1500 a month, you could probably even get credit to pay for the majority of the home, with no interest for the first year, so if you pay it all off within the first year, you would not pay any interest at all. Could solve your problem, give you your own place and effectively mean you have 0 rent at all, and something you can sell in the future if you ever need money badly (or want to move somewhere else etc). It's at least worth looking into. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! Join today by putting it in your sig. |
| Topic | 1 bedroom apartment that isn't a completely scum hole? You're looking at $2000/m |
| wolfy42 06/20/17 1:03:11 PM #32 | Don't count out studio apartments though seriously. It's a bit more expensive then having a roomate, but it's all yours and do you REALLY need a bedroom if your a single guy? Your living room is your bedroom/entertainment room etc. And you can get those much cheaper. I didn't check craigslist etc, but generally when studio apartments age going for $800-$900 (Which seems to be the case where you are), you can often rent a studio from someone (who has a small one in their back yard etc), for a few hundred less (possibly $600 if your lucky). It's similar to renting a room (so generally price is about the same) but, you have your own place (don't share a bathroom etc. Also, you don't need a car, seriously. I mean yeah, it makes life easier, but most places with costs as high as yours have a decent public transportation system, and using it can often save you money vs a car anyway. There is also (as has been recently pointed out to me) uber, which can be used for grocery shopping and occasional trips etc. Nice thing about public transportation is you can look for a place right near it, but far enough away to drastically drop rental prices (a straight bus that travels from near your new location to where you currently work). You might need to leave for work 40 minutes early, but you can read/play games etc on the way (your just sitting in a bus), and the cost is less then gas (let alone insurance, car upkeep, regestration etc etc). A car is nice to have when your young though and going out and having fun alot. If your doing that, or planning on starting, then yeah, get a car. If your just mainly going to work and back, shopping etc, then you might not need one. If you have friends you get along well with, hand out on the weekend with etc, consider doing the whole roomate thing. When I was in my 20's, 3 of us rented a 2 bedroom (this was in the dino age, so a 2 bedroom in the BAY AREA (very expensive) was only $600 a month lol....can't get a 1 bedroom for less then $1600 at this point probably), anyway.....2 of us had a bedroom and shane (The 3rd) used the living room as his bedroom. It was $200 a month each for us. With current insane prices, you can probably get a 2 bedroom for about 1500$-1800$ a month, and if you split it 3 ways that is $500-600 a month each. This can also help with other expenses as well (split utilities/cable/internet 3 ways, often food is shared and more efficent when bought en bulk (or you all order a pizza and split it 3 ways etc). Not as much privacy, but you'll still have your own space AND you get to live with friends you like hanging out with, playing video games, dnd etc (depending what your into. Was a freaking blast, probably the place I enjoyed living the most, and I have lived in some really nice places. Anyway, good luck with your search! --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! Join today by putting it in your sig. |

| wolfy42 06/20/17 11:44:27 AM #21 | If your ok with a studio apartment (no bedroom, kitchen + living room + bathroom, you can get one from 900-1000$ a month there. Here is one studio apartment for $1k https://www.apartments.com/parlmont-park-apartments-billerica-ma/mv7fjkk/ Check out 6 Kenmore Drive #5 (couldn't get a link directly to the add), it's $1300 a month for a 1 bedroom 1 bath, looks like a nice place. Saw quite a few 1 bedrooms for around $1300 though, so if you look around I bet you can find something for $1300-1500 That is still pretty high for a 1 bedroom mind you, but depending on where you work, you might be able to live fairly close (within 20 minutes) and pay significantly less. Rent for a 1 bedroom in Olympia WA where I live starts at around $700 a month!! --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! Join today by putting it in your sig. |

In fact, best bet is to buy a used ring tbh cause they are seriously cheap. You can often get them for the price of gold per pound (Even with diamonds in them if they are not large). | wolfy42 06/19/17 3:25:46 PM #25 | We just played our first game last night (with a new DM) lol. I almost messed everything up by trying to investigate the quest given and her husband when I got to town (It was a trap), then I figured out there was a secret passage in the basement (way before he wanted me to). Meanwhile the DM's wife is our cleric and the first boss/bad guy we encountered took her out in 1 turn (luckily he just had her be unconcious and not dead so we brought her back with goodberries). Meanwhile my Babarian halfling only has a 9 int, so I've been trying to bite my tounge and not make smart suggestions (like...lets get out of here, we are obviously being framed!!). Anyway we played for like 5-6 hours last night, was quite fun. Good luck with DMing, our new DM did quite a good job over all (even if my investigation initially should have turned up that the NPC that contacted us couldn't read or write lol....turned out she had already been dead a week anyway (But nobody knew that yet), but they would have known she couldn't have written all of us herself. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! | wolfy42 06/17/17 2:59:15 PM #14 | mastermix3000 posted... Ok by that explanation what are "we" why do the memories exist The solution to infinite knowledge and understanding is limiting oneself, compartmentalizing and restricting access to information in the future. The only way to now suffer in endless boredom is to create a system that will split your mind up and limit it with an illusion of freedom. Everything is still able to be calculated, but, you limit access to the information needed to make the calculations, so the future does not appear set, choice seems to matter and life feels like it has a purpose and that the universe is random and filled with possibilities. Knowledge that it's all pre-ordained, and that anything can be calculated in advance with enough information is bad, if it was widely known, it would probably drastically reduce the effectiveness of the solution itself. While this solution is not perfect, without the ability to cease to exist all together, it is the best solution possible. Life exists as a distraction, as a filter and as a way to disperse the endless boredom of existence. Death is just a illusion as well, as it is just the end of one small module, a tiny part of a huge collection of sentience that breaks up the ultimate consciousness. Memories exist, because they have to (in order to be sentient, one must have a frame of reference, a way to interact with outside stimuli, and a way to learn from experiences). The solution to the ultimate problem, boredom, involves never ending new experiences. To have experiences, one must have memories, but to have never ending experiences, you must lose those memories and be able to experience things again. That is the answer to life, the universe and everything. We are built to live, learn, experience and eventually forget it all and do it again. It's an endless cycle aimed at the most important conflict in the universe, the never ending battle against endless, eternal boredom. We are all warriors in that war. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! Join today by putting it in your sig. |
| Topic | Serious: Do you think the nature of the universe will ever be fully explained? |
| wolfy42 06/17/17 2:04:17 PM #8 | Everything is connected in a logical, orderly way that can be determined (and pre-determined) using mathmatics. There is no soul, there is no chance, and all your future actions have already been determined (we just don't have the information yet). Consciousness is an illusion of choice, but actually is a collection of past experiences and memories that determine what you will do at any given point, or any "choice" that you can make. As far as the ultimate purpose of the universe, how it was created, what it's exact laws are, and why they are in place, that is information that would destroy the actual purpose of the universe so it can not be known to us. While everything is pre-determined, it does not appear that way to us, and there is an illusion of free will. This illusion is, in a very basic sense, the ultimate purpose, or at least as much of it as we can understand. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! | wolfy42 06/17/17 11:32:03 AM #18 | I'm all for assisted suicide, but that is far and away different then convincing someone to commit suicide, or to continue to do so if they change their mind etc. In this case there is clear evidence that she pretty much caused his death at that time. He might have commited suicide later anyway, but it does not look like without her actions, he would have at that time. I think manslaughter is appropriate (not murder), but she was also 17, and I would consider possibly not trying her as an adult. She should get some punishment for sure, but 10 years seems too harsh (Even if it's 5 with good behavior). More to the point, it's not like she is a danger to society and is going to do this again. Our prison system sucks and sticking her behind bars even for a year is not going to help her, or society once she gets out. I would rather her be forced to do community service (after say 6 months in jail so she can see what happens if she doesn't do the service), for 2 years or something. Make her help others to make up for not helping her BF basically. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! Join today by putting it in your sig. |

I hate driving, I do it cause I have to, but it's always stressfull now adays. And I pay money every month to be able to drive, even outside of the cost of actually driving. If you can really do a round trip shopping for $10 or so, I mean that is once trip a week total, and maybe another trip for some other stuff once a month at this point. $50 a month is what I pay already for insurance....and I wouldn't have to worry about regestiring the stupid thing (which is $150 here in WA) etc. I mean, when you factor in gas as well, and parking in some places, I could probably spend more like $20-30 a week on uber driving and still break even. I also spend a good, oh 10-15$ a month on gas (possibly less now). I rarely go out except to shop. So if I could Uber for like 6$ to the store and 6$ back......it would cost about as much as having the groceries delievered, but I would get to use the better deals and pick my own food. If it's $10 each way though, it's just not worth it, and I always figured there was something like a $10 minimum. | wolfy42 06/16/17 8:35:30 PM #16 | Oh btw, I only fly first class (I think I may have flown standard once but it was soooo long ago I don't remember it anymore), so I really have no experience with how uncomfortable standard seats are. If people can't fit in them though, it's gotta be pretty tight. Had a similar experience watching Phantom of the Operah at the Orpheum theator in SF...those seats crammed everyone in like freaking sardines. I don't have extra width (I have literally no hips), but I like to sit with my legs spread, it's comfortable for me. You could freaking not do that in the theater as there was no room, you had to sit with your knees together for the whole freaking production AND it was super warm because so many people where crammed together. So not enjoyable. If I had to be on a flight like that for 12+ hours...I think I'd freaking jump off the plane just for some fresh air. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! | Topic | A/D: Should fat people have to pay for two plane seats? |
| wolfy42 06/16/17 8:32:54 PM #14 | How do they determine if someone is fat? I mean, it can't be by weight. At peak shape I weigh 220 which can be considered fat for many people. At 260 I have a bit of a gut but can totally fit in a normal seat no problem, but heck alot of people would be freaking beach balls at 260. Do they like measure your waist size or something? I mean, it's pretty crazy that standard seats are so crammed together that if someone is overweight they can't fit in one, although this is true in many theaters (orchestra etc, not movie theaters anymore at least thank god...well usually). The suggestion to offer more "comfortable" seats on each flight for slightly more (2 seats per row instead of 3), for an increased price (about 25% more), makes the most sense to me. You wouldn't need THAT many of them (I just can't imagine there are that many, even americans, who can't fit in anormal seat), and you lose out on 33% (2 seats instead of 3), you only charge 25% more because you use less fuel with one less person, and don't offer a lunch/beverages etc to them, no paperwork, luggage shipped etc. Charging for 2 seats is a total rip off. And honestly you could even make it so the seats work for either 2 or 3 people (just have it be bench seats, with arms that come down in multiple places (so you can sit 2 or 3 people on the bench seat depending on what you need). Yes, those seats can't go back like the others, but it gives you options and they can be used for standby etc in a pinch. The current setup of charging twice as much is ridiculous. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! Join today by putting it in your sig. |
| Topic | If there is there life on other planets |
| wolfy42 06/16/17 7:04:23 PM #3 | Easily, actually anything that conducts electricity could in theory develop sentience eventually and reprofuce itself. Silicon life forms for instance make total sense. There have been tons of non-organic aliens proposes in science fiction over the years. Gas based life forms also make sense, as again it gives a method of storing information and using what you have learned, that is pretty much the prerequisit for sentient life, some way to store information and learn from past experiences, and eventually to pass down what you have learned to others (if you have a lifespan at least). In many situations though, it's quite possible the life would be able to not only store it's own information, but have a unified pool, allowing all future creatures to learn from the species mistakes and experiences. This could allow such a species to advance far faster then a biological one. We of course are on the cusp of reaching that level of technology ourselves, where we can download the memories/experiences of a person into a digital format and use it in the future. In fact, this could even allow the full personality/experiences of a person to be saved, and placed into either a clone body, or a new young body of another person (wiping their memories/experiences first). While such things are not currently possible, the ideas behind them are logical and there is a clear path towards being able to attain such technology. In such a way, we would no longer be just "biological life forms" either, but would have pretty much evolved to being just the electronic signals/impuses in our brains that can be stored and transferred at will. Quite possibly not even into organic matter (robots could store and interact with the electronic memories/impulses just fine). This would basically make biological humans extinct eventually, other then "possible" allowing for babies (if they don't just start a baby as a clean slate program at that point, no real reason to go through birth etc). So yeah, it's almost certain there are non-biological life forms out there. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! Join today by putting it in your sig. |

| wolfy42 06/16/17 6:04:04 PM #12 | Spider Man Homecoming: Aunt May (apparently) dies at the end of the movie, it's left as a cliffhanger. War for the planet of the Apes: Ceaser defeats the colonel (woody harrison) by breaking his back. The apes win the war and the humans are enslaved. The Dark Tower: Very different from the books, it's the whole series in 1 movie (not multiple parts) the final confrontation between Roland and the Man in Black ends with a throwback from the book, Roland wins, but Jake dies as a result. Thor Ragnarok: Should have been called The Hulk saves the day. Thor plays second fiddle to the Hulk in the second half of the movie. Kingsman: The Golden Circle: Team up time, with an american chick even, who also rewards him at the end of the movie (much like at the end of the first one). --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! | wolfy42 06/15/17 12:16:58 PM #9 | Never mind see it's on sale at bestbuy for 31.99 (with my gamers gate), decent price but not low enough for me yet, due to having a huge backlog already. Figure I should at least play more of/finish BoTW before buying it (they are similar). --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! Join today by putting it in your sig. |

Game really works well, just wish there was a bit more to the upgrade/leveling system...other then that, really like it. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! | Topic | I think we can all agree that Starship Troopers was a great movie |
| wolfy42 06/13/17 5:47:46 PM #19 | Zeus posted... It was a pretty great movie, but a lot of it was the camp. He along with Asimov where some of the few big sci fi writers when I was a kid (wasn't exactly a ton of choices yet), and I have not read Starship Troopers since I was like 5 or something. That being said it was a very solo/solitary kind of book about a marine on a planet fighting the buggers all by himself. It's been so long that is pretty much all I remember, but when the movie came out, I still remembered everything I had read and was blown away by how little it followed the book. The book was......different.......then most of Heinliens other books....very lonely and almost sad I guess. Nothing like his semi-comedy books (when he kinda went off the deep end I guess after Stranger in a strange land and started visiting OZ etc). The movie....was kinda a comedy I guess, and not horrid, but the gut reaction from most people that knew of/read the book, was utter horror that this is what the movie adaptation became. Watching it again years later though, I enjoyed it far more. The sequels though where blah (no sequel to the book...although I think Chirstopher Stasheff eventually made a new series based on it). I saw them I think once, and that was plenty. --- Proud member of the Arv The Great is great fan club!!! Join today by putting it in your sig. |
