http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/coca-cola-cut-jobs-1200-consumers-sugary-drinks-fizzy-sales-slump-a7706241.html

Coca-Cola has announced plans to cut about 20 per cent of it corporate workforce, as the company battles a drop in sales due to falling demand for its sugary drinks.

The US firm said it will cut 1,200 jobs starting later this year as it increases its cost-cutting target by $800m and is now expecting to save $3.8bn by 2019.

This represents about a 22 per cent reduction of its 5,500 corporate staff or a 1 per cent reduction in its total workforce of 100,300 employees, according to figures by FactSet, cited by AP.

Global sales of Coca-Cola's fizzy drinks fell by one per cent for the first three months of 2017 as health-conscious consumers across the US and Europe are increasingly shying away from drinks with a high sugar content.

Coca-Cola said it expects full-year adjusted profits to drop by between 1 to 3 per cent, compared with a 1 to 4 per cent decline it had forecast in February.

The cost-cutting comes as drink and food manufacturers find themselves on a never-ending quest for more healthy ways to sweeten products, pressured by a consumer trend toward healthier products.

Nestlé, the company behind KitKat and Aero, last year claimed it made a scientific breakthrough that has the potential to reduce sugar in its treats by up to 40 per cent, without affecting the taste.

It followed PepsiCo’s commitment to spend billions of dollars creating new snacks and beverages, and reformulating existing ones to cut salt, sugar and fat content.

Coca-cola, last year, also changed its Coke Zero recipe and renamed it Coca-Cola Zero Sugar in the UK to make it “taste more and look more” like the original one, the company said.

The move to replace Coke Zero was supported by a £10m campaign.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/rest-of-world/north-korea-agrees-to-first-ever-un-rights-expert-visit

GENEVA: North Korea has agreed to host a UN rights expert for the first time, granting access next week to the special rapporteur on disabled people's rights, the world body said on Thursday.

Catalina Devandas-Aguilar is scheduled to arrive in the isolated nation on Wednesday following an invitation from Pyongyang, the UN rights office said in a statement.

Her visit "will be the first ever to the country by an independent expert designated by the UN Human Rights Council," the statement said.

The rights council has accused North Korea of committing crimes against humanity and detaining up to 120,000 people in brutal prison camps.

The North Korean regime last month boycotted a rights council session scrutinising its record, branding the body's work a "mere political attack".

Devandas-Aguilar said the upcoming visit marked a important chance to study the situation in the country, with a particular focus on children living with disabilities.

"My upcoming visit to DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) represents a key opportunity to learn firsthand about national realities, laws, policies and programmes concerning people with disabilities," she said in the statement.

Pyongyang last December ratified an international convention on the rights of disabled people.

Devandas-Aguilar said she would explore the challenges and opportunities the government faced in implementing that pact.

During her six-day mission, the expert will visit Pyongyang and the South Hwanghae Province, followed by a press conference in the capital on the final day, the UN said.

Animals within the same species can breed. However, if the female is the Chihuahua, the puppies could be too large for her to safely birth. And even if she survived giving birth, the puppies could be unattractive. Worse case, some could have birth defects.

If the female is a German Shepherd, I can't imagine a Chihuahua could impregnate her from a "logistics" point-of-view.

Office includes Exchange, OneNote (which I use all the time), Powerpoint, Excel, Access, etc. That is like saying billions of people use Internet Explorer because it comes with Windows even though any usage statistic will tell you that is not the case.

I'm well-aware that Office doesn't consist of just Word.

With HTML it can exist on an external server and we can both make modifications to it and see those modifications in real time.

Uhhhh-huh. I guess group drives and shared documents don't exist in your world.

The absolutely do.

My company hosts a Jive server that contains all of our documentation which as I mentioned before is in HTML markup. This server essentially functions like a social media hub where it hosts documents, blogs, picture repositories, status updates, group pages, etc. Now granted this is a larger company with hundreds of thousands of employees in over 100 countries so we can afford to host our own version of "corporate Facebook", but I understand most companies don't. Hell, the one I worked at before was a company of less then a thousand people. In those cases it is usually better to host a Wikimedia server on a development box. Basically, the same technology used in Wikipedia.

There is also the ability to setup a github on your computer if you want to share documents that way. It also gives you version control and the ability to merge when two people make an edit at the same time.

Awesome, sounds like the company has done well for itself.

With HTML it can exist on an external server and we can both make modifications to it and see those modifications in real time.

You can do literally the same thing with a shared file in OneDrive. Create a file in Word or Excel, save it to your OneDrive, share it to friends and coworkers, and it's all stored on Microsoft's cloud.

But then that file is binary, and I am forced to use Microsoft's software to collaborate on that document. What if I am working on sensitive information that can't be shared on the cloud due to contractual obligations?

What if the person I am sharing the document with doesn't have access to Microsoft software due to their region blocking OneDrive as a security risk?

You make good arguments on not using Microsoft Office in regards to sensitive information and region-blocks, and in those situations, yeah, alternative sources of creating files like HTML would work perfectly.

However, for most other situations, like day-to-day documents, spreadsheets, powerpoint presentations, creating PDFs, and sharing these files with others who have MS Office, MS Office works like a charm.

Although, I have to draw back attention to your comment that "no one uses Word anymore". That's factually wrong.

A) The Gold Rush bringing millions of workers from all around the country and world.

C) World War 2 and the start of Japanese concentration camps.
