I still think it had fewer levels overall, and some of the levels being secrets diminished their impact for me. The Star World and Special World levels were memorable, but I would have been fine with just those levels. The in-between secrets scattered all over the place were unnecessary. And I'd rather play two short levels with few secrets than one level with a secret exit that requires me to play the majority of the level twice to get both paths.

I just think the levels are a lot more enjoyable in SMW, they have the perfect length. In Yoshi's Island they were too long, in SMB3 they were too short.

But SMB3 has a lot more levels AFAIK. And some levels were short to take advantage of a concept, like the one where you have to run on all the Munchers and collect stars. That level wouldn't be fun if it was really long. And it's such a simple idea, but it was novel, and it's the kind of risk Mario games since don't really take. Having more levels also means more opportunities to take risks.

The sun chase level is also a similar idea, and that one is iconic.

I just hated hearing for years (until BotW came out) that Nintendo wouldn't make a Zelda game that's "true to the series" or however people sugarcoat it. The first Zelda was like that because it was primitive, and the added structure of later games made the series better. I'd say that a dozen+ sequels are more indicative of what's "true" to the series than hanging on to ideas from one game just because it was the first.

I'll admit BotW was awesome, but its approach to open-world was honestly quite different from the first LoZ and a lot of what made it good comes from concepts in other Zelda games besides LoZ.

I think SMW is much more overrated. It's great, but I like SMB3 better because it's so quirky and experimental. Also, SMW just gets confusing to play through with so many of its levels being stuck behind all these different secret, branching paths. Yeah, the secret levels are a cool idea, but why do they make up so much of the game? I think a more linear map style serves this style of gameplay much better; the core appeal is the levels themselves, so I don't want to spend a bunch of time backtracking and wandering through the world map to get the full experience. Yoshi is OP and seems to be implemented at the expense of having oddball rare powerups that SMB3 had.

The game downright sucks

I agree that the first Metroid is pretty lame, but I don't think it's really held in high enough regard to be considered overrated. That reminds me, though, the first Legend of Zelda might be my new answer instead of SM64.

At one point I think I had three jobs while I was in school, but it was combined only like 15 hours a week. The job market is okay here, but lots of people don't even earn enough money to not have to live with their parents.

It hurts when I see industries that I want to get into around here claim about a shortage of talent. Maybe I think too highly of my abilities, but I can't help but feel like perhaps their standards are just too unrealistic.

Anyways, the Rockies had a nice win today. They got back at the Indians with a ninth-inning comeback of their own. It also made Carlos Estevez 5-0 with a 7.23 ERA LOL wins are a great stat

I don't really understand what you mean by this. If it was open-world, it would just further expose how small the world map really is... unless they significantly added to it, in which case it would basically be a different game at that point.

It can be something that's been remade before, but don't be silly and name something that just got a 4K edition or whatever.

I really would like to see some N64 remasters. Nintendo won't give those any love. Yeah, they put the Zelda games on 3DS, but where are the HD remakes? I hear people say they wouldn't look good, but I don't know, the Banjo HD remasters seemed fine. Maybe they work better because they have a more cartoony style, but in that case, Mario 64 would still be a good candidate.

Many people I know who work in retail jobs and the like seem to constantly hop jobs, so I imagine that shit must suck. But they seem to find new jobs all the time despite having been fired from jobs, not having a HS diploma, stuff like that. It makes me feel like if I can't even get one of those jobs I must really be doing something wrong, though on the other hand I fear I may be easily dismissed as overqualified. But I haven't applied to anything like that since graduating college, so I guess we'll see what happens if/when it gets to that point

Best anything starting with a particular letter isn't very fair, but especially not for video games, where series can be very big and if they all start with the same letter that's a lot of infighting. Hell, just the word "Super", let alone the entire letter S, probably has more strong entries than at least half the rest of the alphabet.

They've had people before who can't swim/are weak swimmers. It's pretty rare for a challenge to require everyone to swim completely solo in deep water. When they have team challenges with swimming parts there's usually a leg that's on land.

I don't feel like it's just Microsoft. A lot of websites have become less ideal for desktop users as they also try to cater to mobile users. There is a lot of confused design where we still have a bunch of things that are mishmashes of design philosophies for different devices. Of course, website designs have still increased dramatically in quality overall as there have been several innovations and concepts that make them more modular. However, I still hate ones that have overly large text, hide too many links and use unclear/pictorial touch points instead of text menus.

The settings app is meant to replace control panel, but they keep control panel around so that people don't complain about them changing things.

And yet people still complain about them changing things.

It's almost like they knew that the Settings app sucks. Actually, it's probably okay, but I'd still rather use the control panel. They probably would have been better off removing the Control Panel from the start rather than leaving us with a mostly useful but slightly gimped version.

I just hate how everything in the settings app looks the same. There's no color to the icons. It looks more modern and minimalist, but the unique designs of each icon in the Control Panel helped me remember them.

Edit: Everything looking the same extends to the fairly uniform layouts and window size that the Settings app uses as well. The Control Panel had all kinds of different window layouts and other windows and programs popping up depending on what you selected. You could argue that's objectively "bad" design, but it made it easy to familiarize yourself with all the functions and if you opened something up you could tell if you had the right thing just by the window layout. The Settings app makes you actually read through all the particular settings you just opened in order to tell if you're in the right place.

It's confusing as fuck. As far as I can tell, they both have similar functions and some overlap but there are some that seem to have been removed from the Control Panel, like the Display/Personalize options. There are also some that probably aren't in the Settings app like Device Manager, but I don't know it well enough to say for sure.

I hate it. It seems like the Settings app is meant for touchscreen devices and the Control Panel meant for traditional users. That would be great if they both had the same features and you could choose to disable one or the other, but neither of those are true AFAIK. I just want to use the damn Control Panel to change all my settings because I generally know where everything is from many years of use, but MS has made this very hard.

I don't think I would want this unless they gave some color upgrades, even if it was just a palette selector like the Super Game Boy. Then you have the issue of the screen size being something you want to make bigger, not smaller. You could easily do that, but not without sacrificing the whole idea that these are supposed to look like near-exact, scaled versions of the original.

The eShop in general seems to have a lot more NES and SNES games than the Wii U one. And the prospect of getting a SNES Classic further complicates things as it has several items from my wish list. Of course it would be much easier if Nintendo would just GIVE US SWITCH VC
