I have a hard enough time keeping track of the personalities on PotD; how could I expect to do that on CE? I don't know who's trolling there and who's serious, and I don't want to spend the time there bothering to figure it out

The Rockies should have traded for Jay Bruce because their next opponent is the Mets and that would have been interesting. But mostly because CarGo sucks. I wonder if they've fallen a bit too in love with Gerardo Parra, who's playing way over his head. Charlie Blackmon is the only OF they have who I'd say is a true everyday player. Maybe David Dahl will be good but his return just seems to get delayed repeatedly

I kind of forgot the deadline was happening this afternoon and then I just looked and saw the Dodgers traded for Yu Darvish. Well shit.

Actually, maybe this move isn't that big of a deal since they were already going to run away with the division and no amount of moves can guarantee you a title. Just look at the A's a few years back, who made all these big moves when they were already the best team in baseball, and now they're a rebuilding team. Granted, I'm not saying that means the Dodgers will go through the same thing. I have no idea what their farm systems looks like now, but I know that they have a lot of young studs under team control already in the majors, so even if they continue gutting the farm for the next year or two they'll still be really good, right?

They have too many I need to try before I get around to something as weird sounding as ginger root beer. I wish they had variety packs so I could try them all much quicker

Hmm, it's okay, but it does taste kind of weird. It's hard to describe what it tastes like, but it's definitely not a perfect substitute for sugar-sweetened soda. This particular one tastes to me much more like cherry than cola. If I ever get these again, I think I want to try the regular cola or the Dr. Pepper knockoff

I forgot about the earlier posts mentioning the flavor was pretty mild, otherwise I might have been more apprehensive. It's just something I picked up when I happened to notice it at the store, not like I reread this topic and decided to go get it

What good would drafting do if the intention is to stay in second? The mechanic is designed so that it's pretty much inevitable you pass whoever you're drafting. And I don't think drafting is something I'm really missing out on if I'm already in first place. Your advice might as well be "Win the race, but don't win the race too hard or you won't win the race."

Semi-successfully. I downloaded some app that pretty much does all of it for you, but I only did it to get rid of bloatware. I didn't totally brick it, but I stopped being able to download some apps that it now said weren't compatible, so ehh

How do you deliberately stay in 2nd or 3rd? That sounds like it would be harder than just going as fast as you can and hoping you don't get screwed. And that strategy would only give you relief from blue shells, assuming they don't hit you along the way.

One thing I do like is that there seems to be very little rubber banding, so trying to open up a huge lead in first is a viable strategy compared to past games. And by past games I just mean MK64. I don't know at what point the series changed, but I remember in 64 you could see the AI players straight up teleport ahead on your minimap.

Also, to Colby's point about how much of a shitshow the series has been lately, this is finally the game fans want, etc., how many times have we heard that before? This is what people said when Generations and the Sonic 4 episodes were coming out too. There is maybe more reason to believe that Sonic Mania will be good, but it's literally a safer game than NSMB

The old Sonic games have odd pacing. I think something like Mario actually works better as a fast paced platformer because it basically has two speeds: walk and run. It's very easy to change between those at a moment's notice. Sonic has more like three speeds, but you can't really go from top speed directly to medium speed, making for a lot of momentum killing moments. It also has a lot of slopes and verticality to it, which limit your ability to really stop and explore the level or to backtrack.

The first two Sonic games had too many levels that you can just run through in a minute without anything interesting happening, but S3&K often took it to the opposite extreme. I remember a lot of levels with confusing layouts where I'd just get stuck for a while and actually run out the ten minute limit - not very fun. That being said, there are a few decent levels in all 4 Genesis games that hit the 3-5 minute sweet spot.

I don't know if I'm really that excited about Sonic Mania. I like the old Sonic games, but I can't really explain why. They're enjoyable enough to play through, but nothing about the gameplay is truly special to me. Sonic Mania just seems like a nostalgia cash-in, and I don't know if I'd have the patience to play through it without having the familiarity that brings me back to the Genesis games.

Interesting tidbit from today's Rockies game: Pat Neshek debuted for the Rockies and Howie Kendrick debuted for the Nationals. They both were former teammates on the Phillies. It would have been especially cool if they faced each other directly (I wonder if that's ever happened with two former teammates making debuts on opposing teams), but it's still probably a pretty rare thing that they played the same game at all

I know none of you are into it, but I've been tempted by Minecraft lately. That's the type of gameplay that is perfect for portable (i.e. short bursts) but that you can also really sit down and play for a while.

But on the other hand, it's also just a huge time sink that I've played a lot on PC already. I might hold out til I clear more of my backlog, and for a possible physical release (although it's less than 1 GB)

It looks like a fun multiplayer game, but I don't really have any friends who like playing Nintendo games. I skipped out on the last SSB for mainly that reason

I like my Switch, but jeez does it need some games. This thing would be perfect for VC, but I'm not sure at this point if we'll ever get it. Super Mario Odyssey is going to be awesome, but it's going to be like BotW where I play the shit out of it for a few weeks then not want to touch it again for a long time.

I have a bunch of Wii (U) games I need to play, but no good spot to hook it up right now. Even in TV mode the Switch is so much more convenient.

I know about holding an item behind, jeez. Sometimes you don't get one though and only the horn helps with a blue shell.

So... all you have to do is do the very best you possibly can do? To be fair, I'm not really sure what you're talking about with the other games though. 64 is the only other one I really played extensively and in that there aren't star values. There's just one level of gold, and you only have to have the most points, not necessarily winning every race.
