AA allows race to be considered as a factor of admission, but not a sole determinant. What generally happens with AA is that there's a pool of equally qualified applicants, and race can essentially be used as a tiebreaker in an effort to create diversity. Remember, these elite schools basically only care about their rankings and prestige. They aren't going to admit people with lower than average SAT, because that would lower their overall average and make them look worse. The people getting in still have top scores. --- |
