Median is literally lining up all the numbers in a data set in order and picking the middle entry.

Mean, or average, is adding up all the numbers in the data set and dividing that sum by the number of entries.

In terms of practical differences, mean can be skewed by extreme outlier entries, either high or low. For example, if you took the annual incomes of 30 people but one of them was Jeff Bezos then the mean would be ridiculously high due to that one outlier. If you took the median though you'd look at entries 15 and 16 and split the difference. So Jeff Bezos being part of the set wouldn't skew the result, despite being a ridiculous outlier for annual income.

The mean is just the middle of the data set. Say that you polled users here on their age and the average age was idk 30 years old. The median is just the middle of the set of numbers. So if the youngest poller was 20 and the oldest was 100, the median would be 60. 60 is the exact middle of those two numbers.

It's not really something they can see in the ultra sounds until around 16 weeks. But most places do the anatomy scan around 20 weeks.

I just said to look into it. Depending on the age of your house/stuff in it, it might be worth it. Our entire HVAC system is 17 years old and I'm just waiting for it to completely shit the bed. If it does, my warranty company will replace it with something of similar power. That'll be $10k I won't have to pay. I compare the cost vs the savings every year to decide whether to renew the plan. Nearly three years in and I'm still saving more money with the plan vs without. There's been plenty of things I fixed on my own without calling them cause it was cheaper than the copay. There is no deductible on my plan. Just the annual fee for the plan and the $80 copay.

Look at it this way: not everyone has the time or knowledge to do home repairs. It is a great deal for that type of person. Being as I don't know what TC is capable of, it isn't a bad suggestion. If they are good with their hands perhaps it isn't the best suggestion. Not everyone has the mental capacity to get multiple bids for a project or actually source the costs and do it themselves.

How to do lawn care.
This is the first time I've ever had a front and back yard that I've needed to take care of myself.
I let my back yard get overrun with weeds, and I've recently been spending a bunch of time pulling up weeds. I've pulled up the vast majority of them, but I've still got a lot to go.
I wish I knew not to cut my grass too short. I've been cutting it down to 1 inch over and over, but I think that has been helping weeds grow. I'm apparently not supposed to cut my grass lower than 3 inches.

• Cut your grass when it gets over 4 inches
• Cut your grass down to 2.5-3 inches
• Do weed and feed in the spring, summer, and fall (or hire someone to come apply it; you might be surprised to find out that the cost to hire someone may be very similar to the cost of DIY for this!)
• Don't forget to edge your mulch beds with a string trimmer, or you'll need to edge it manually next year when that clean edge disappears from neglect
• Don't forget to put down Preen prior to putting more mulch on top
• Mulch needs to be fully removed every several years; you can't keep adding mulch on top of mulch.
• Instead of mulch, replace everything with rocks and stones if you're okay with the look
• You need to aerate your lawn every couple of years
• You may need to dethatch your lawn, depending on how much thatch buildup you have. To prevent thatch buildup, minimize mulching your grass; bag it all.

I had similar situation as person you quoted. They replaced my outside AC unit for a mere 80 bucks. Would have cost me around 2500 if I did it myself/without home warranty. Hell, they even cover your appliances. It is not a bad idea. Not at all.

Look into a home warranty. Costs us ~$950 a year with a $80 charge each time we call them out but it's completely worth it. Our warranty covers all our appliances, HVAC, heating, electrical, and plumbing in the house. If something breaks, I'll do some quick research to determine how easy/cheap it would be for me to fix it. If it's less than the $80 charge, I take care of it and learn something in the process. Otherwise I call them out to fix it. Turn around time is generally ~2 days.

Last year we had a blower motor go out on the HVAC. Part would have cost $650 + installation if we didn't have the warranty. Instead we paid $80.
