I feel that it's a nice consolation that they come out on PC so it's basically a soft confirm that the series will continue.

Jojo was heavily inspired by FotNS, especially at its outset.

Now I'm not saying "Yakuza" was a bad name for the series in the west, particularly in 2005. It was a perfect descriptor of what you were getting that "Like a Dragon" probably would have missed the mark on in those days.

But unfortunately, the stories of the series are moving away from the politics of the yakuza, so it's becoming inaccurate.

And it'd be really inaccurate for Ishin, given that the yakuza didn't even exist yet.

Y7 It occurs late in the game, and while Kiryu has showed up in trailers, I feel a lot of people consider it to be a spoiler, so to that end, I tend to mark it.

*cough* Thirty years.

Yakuza 0 took place in 1988. The Kiryu Gaiden takes place in 2018.

Most likely LaD8 will take place in 2024, the year of its release.

I mean I suppose the biggest spoiler that these trailers have made absolutely plain is that Kiryu did not die as a result of the events of Yakuza 6. Kind of a "late arrival" spoiler at this point.

Part of me is this, but also part of me doesn't like 6 and how it wrapped him up.

Third and final announcement: A Like a Dragon Gaiden "The Man Who Erased HIs Name", starring Kiryu. Coming out in 2023.

It takes place in 2018 and apparently is dealing with Kiryu shortly after the events of Yakuza 6, but before 7. He's living as a monk in a temple and is also doing certain "work" for a suit fella.

Looks like Ichiban and Kiryu are going to be dual protagonists for 8.

Okay, very barely got a taste of RGG8.

It's coming out in 2024 (still a ways away). We saw Kamurocho, and we saw Ichiban and Kiryu walking up.

Kiryu has a very odd hairstyle, it's now grayed and combed over the front. Looks so weird.

Oh and the JP version of the remake is called "Ishin Kiwami", so I guess that's official lol.

Right now it's mostly "Oh famous actors what's it like to work on a video game and go to the office" blah blah blah.

So turns out Ishin will be using actors from RGG games that were released afterwards. Several characters in the game will be recast to use "faces" from Yakuza 0, Yakuza 6, and Yakuza 7.

They brought out Ozawa, Takeuchi, and Nakano, the actors for the 3 Tojo lieutenants from 0 who are all being worked into the remake of Ishin.

Spotted during the trailer, additional actors that weren't in the original:

Kuze, Awano, Shibusawa, Joon-gi Han, probably others I'm missing.

Oh wait ISHIN IS A PROPER REMAKE.

In the style of other RGG (Yakuza) games, the combat is beat 'em up style with fancy Heat Actions. The difference here is that you're using swords and guns.

Probably. It's hard to be certain, but some of them are pretty obvious, like Ame and Gura.

And I'm thinking the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th on the top row are Mio, Korone, and Fubuki respectively.

Okay, perhaps they're using the term "remake" because it's being made in UE4, which I'm pretty sure the original Ishin was not (since it hadn't come out yet).

That said, from what I can see I'm pretty sure they're just going to try to migrate the existing assets to that engine.

I'm still really glad they're putting in that effort for this.

It's an upscale remaster of Ishin from 2014.

It has:

• A story told in the time of the Bakumatsu, starring Yakuza series "faces" playing historical figures. For example, Ryoma Sakamoto is "played" by "Kiryu" (and his VA). There's also Majima, Saejima, Akiyama, Nishikiyama, Ryuji Goda, Haruka, and several others.
• The combat is the same beat-em-up style of Yakuza games only you're swinging swords around. The combat is understandably BRUTAL stuff using a bunch of different weapons and styles. There's even a "Wild Dance" style where Sakamoto is wielding a katana and revolver at the same time.
• So many minigames including farming, chicken racing, traditional Japanese fan dancing, and even karaoke!
• A naked bathhouse fight between two sweaty men.

Ground up remake.

Looking at it, it looks like an upscale remaster (plus localization).

The original game came out on the PS4 so it didn't need a lot.

Word is that this is literally an S-tier RGG game.

I believe specifically in that game, and a few others. I'm pretty sure the PS button doesn't pause in Dragon Engine games (but they do have a pause function), so that's something.
