This is a bit editorial of me, but I feel like he wants comedy to be easy. He wants the easy laughs and cheers that come from being the smartest man in the room with the quickest draw. And I'm not saying that's not a talent, but it doesn't really feel like he's putting the work in that some others are.

I mean, take Oliver. Dude's putting on considerable productions and effort together for his show and their bits.

Yeah, I'd say so. It's a good idea to try, at least. I'm pretty introverted, don't exactly love crowds, and have many "by myself" hobbies like reading. But I've made lots of friends with similar interests by getting out of my traditional comfort zone over the years. I still need alone-time to recharge after socializing, but the more you put yourself out there, the easier it gets.
Yeah my big push for that was getting to conventions. Those are good places to meet people. I only do that a few times a year, though.

I actually only recently started to dislike him. I didn't really watch his show, but my parents liked it and I'd watch it with them any time I was visiting for a weekend. He got shitty and annoying during the pandemic and hasn't really been funny since. Parents won't even watch anymore (they are boomers, mother is older than Maher). I even defended him on this board a few years ago when people were calling him alt-right when he was more of an actual legit centrist.
That's funny my dad was the same way. He watched him all the time yet still would complain about how he was much more of a jerk than most other late-night hosts. Only in the last year or so did he decide he was done with him.

Was right around the time I was visiting home and dad pulled up Maher's new special "#Adulting". Took about five minutes before we shut it off and did something else once he started shitting on audience members wearing masks.

Anyway, I hadn't watched him in years and it at least gave me confirmation I still had no desire.

Like I don't consider Maher alt-right or anything like that. He's just a grumpy old white guy who's getting more pissed off that not everyone agrees with him.

He will say himself that he hasn't changed over the years, and I find myself agreeing, because everyone else has grown and he's still living in the 90s..

Yep. Sounds familiar.

It's hard when one's interests don't really lend to a lot of social interaction. Like, should one engage in social activities where one's uncomfortable just for the purpose of trying to find a potential partner? Would that even gather the kind of people one is interested in?

It's wild because online is a great place to find people with similar interests but the last couple of decades have put everyone on considerable guard, because we've heard the stories about catfishing, stalking, etc. etc. etc.

I've always adored Beaton's wit and style. Thing is this isn't her usual. It's a sad tale and also a personal memoir.

As someone who works in safety, it'd be interesting to read her take on the industry she worked for and her experiences there.

Speaking for myself, in my twenties:
  • I wasn't in the best place mentally.
  • My sex life was pretty barren.
One may very well be a function of the other, but I would need some convincing to believe that the reason I had bad mental health was the lack of sex, rather than the other way around.

I'm just a sample size of one, but as my mental health upturned (which was a result of my financial situation improving, becoming more independent, and thus, more confident), so too did my sex life, if marginally.

Nowadays I still don't have a lot of sex and yet I don't really feel it's something I need to be fulfilled, but that could simply be a function of me getting older and my natural sex drive diminishing.

like only 1 in 3 men under age 30 have had sex in the past year, that's fairly concerning.
Did it go into detail about how many of these men had been seeking sex in the past year?

Like if men are feeling distress or poor mental health that's certainly a problem worth addressing, but are they saying it's because they're not having sex, or is not having sex simply a symptom of that?

Is there value in mixing up the counts of roles? I wonder how well a 3A 1D 2H crew would work.

Oh by the way if anyone can think of any great memories you had playing with or against other people, that is apparently not because of the video games, but because of the people so don't even think about that.

A_Good_Boy posted...
This criticism is highly dependent on the person.
Kinda where my mind was going on this. If a person were to come to their own personal conclusion that their time spent on video games was wasteful, that's on them, but there's no need to judge the world based on your own anxieties.
