I think with 5 I can confidentially say this is pretty great. None of my previous issues have been removed in that I think you could have achieved the same effect in half the dialogue but I think 5 cemented this as genuinely enthralling

I also think the 4 into 5 link was well done where 4 made me care about Ange and 5 showed Bern was an asshole who used her which I think was a good juxtaposition of episodes.

Though, correct me on my higurashi lore as I didnt watch past Kai, but wasnt it implied Bern is .. shoot what is her name. Rika? That doesnt really make sense any more

Well no, people knew that, but most people assumed she just gave up and not that she actively wanted Battler to win and was trying to guide him to do so. People definitely still had the assumption the game was legit "I'm trying to win, but just don't care anymore" and not a means to an end for her.

She definitely did still give up though, just not on the goal people thought.

Oh, well thats dumb. After 60 hours it was obvious Beatrice was logical and wasnt going to give up just cuz

It still isnt very clear why Beatrice feels this way which I assume is coming (In someways the length of this and the fact that I cant really review what happened without spoilers kind of creates a you had to have been their environment because maybe it is obvious and I missed something somewhere)

But I thought it was extremely obvious Beatrice purposefully threw the round for a specific reason and that isnt going to be she just felt like it

Wait, people didnt realize that Beatrice wasnt trying to win after 4.

I feel like that level of excitement is what the power point at the end of episode 5 should have been. Pretty awesome.

I am a little disappointed this doesn't pin back to erika...

But I guess that is kind of the point? That there could be multiple solutions and the fight for truth is the fight for each one.

Also what a great contrast to the anime fight scenes in Ch2 which were weird and felt disjointed. My guess is their is symbolism in their now that I would pick up given everyone was fighting with red and blue at the time, but this felt like an exciting fight scene that meshed well with the story.

Anyways that was great. Probably going to take another few days off and then start chapter 6

For the record, I'm still going with my argument that Erika obviously wants a murder to occur, so even if she is red truthed to be the detective, that doesn't mean she would prevent a murder from occurring even if she knew about it. I believe the background has been established of that fact sufficiently that it doesn't violate knox's rule about the detective not being the murderer

Red truth says that Erika is the detective and the detective isn't the culprit and erika isn't the culprit

Though what it doesn't technically say is Erika's alibis are always pure. Nanjo for instance has an alibi that relies on Erika. If Erika is lying Nanjo could.... technically, be the culprit still I believe

This is such a wonky game

I think the interesting thing in this theory that Natsuhi is responsible, is she is the only one who got a phone call from Krauss. That could also be entirely fictional.

Her being so concerned that everyone will find out that Kinzo isn't there .... when Kinzo could easily have just been murdered ... and Jessica of all people is dead is weird

Now, that doesn't explain why Jessica would be dead, but hell, with how this games going Jessica could possibly not be Natsuhi's biological daughter or something at this point. Wouldn't shock me

Fable is absurdly good but I don't think standard having a best card is a problem. It's only when everyone is playing the best card because the 2nd-5th best cards are in the same deck. There have been standards where the best cards in standard didn't see much play because the rest of the color or archetype sucked.

Massacre as an individual card is nowhere near ban-worthy. I can get behind the ban with the reasoning of "black decks as a whole are too ubiquitous so we want to ban something, and hitting Meathook might allow more archetypes to emerge".

Meathook mirrors where trigger order matters also isn't great gameplay. I think they picked a good card to ban even if it wasn't specifically broken

I think companions are cool, especially in draft, but they wildly underestimated how good they were in general.

I actually think cards like Kaheera are the worst, because creatureless Azorious control playing it is such a flavor fail. Missing on power is one thing, not thinking about restrictions enough is just not enough effort.

They obviously did not do enough R&D about the ramifications.

Paying attention to random things is fine. I love the "physical mechanics" where you have to throw a card or keep track of things in real life.

I think the stickers are what kills me the most. Having to flip through them to constantly remind yourself what's on there and to unstick everything between games.

Yeah unsticking sucks, but for a one time novel experience I don't mind it being complicated.

Technically could use stickers for commander, but you could also choose to just not do that
