Final Fantasy 9 had twenty minutes of swooshing around the battlefield before every battle. It might be a good game if every battle didnt take forever to get going.

I love it because of how different it is from other Final Fantasy games. Really is too bad that it devolved in the final third of the game because it couldn't figure out how to make a suitably grandiose Final Fantasy ending. I liked the slow burn of political machinations.

I still don't understand how they managed to make a lengthy climatic airship battle boring. In this regard, Final Fantasy 9 packed more excellence into 30 seconds of FMV than 12 could muster over 15+ minutes. Sky Fortress Bahamut being a visually-uninteresting asspull certainly didn't help things.

Only reason I knew he was a singer was that late 90's-era Maxim did a 100 All-Time Worst albums list.

IIRC he also sings the ongoing theme song in the Rankin and Bass Hobbit animated movie, which I watched a lot of as a kid.

I don't have anyone on block because I don't make a topic but once in a blue moon, so it's easier to just keep using ignore.

I liked it enough to replay it several times. Pros include Balthier, a gorgeous soundtrack, a lavishly-detailed world that imo still holds up, Gambits, and Fran's derrire. Cons include Vaan, a weak central plot with an underwhelming finale, uber-bosses that take marathon gameplay way too far, and Vaan (I actually enjoyed the combat so I won't list it as a con, but I acknowledge that plenty of people hated it).

The notion that dungeons were my least favorite part of the Zelda formula was already starting to take hold around the time of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, but BotW drove that point home with a hammer. The 'traditional' 3D Zelda dungeon is more often than not a bloated, boring headache; the bite-sized approach to puzzle-solving that Shrines brought to the table was such a welcome relief. I wouldn't turn my nose at a greater level of visual / aesthetic variety, though.

I've just come to accept that every official meme topic will be temporarily taken over by an unfunny poster who just can't take a fucking hint. Sure, it's a letdown to click on the a new post and be met with an unfunny meme, but eventually they either get bored or run out of material, and the ship rights itself.

Happy. I've wanted a female protagonist in a post-3 GTA game since SA, and being able to have one in Saints Row 2 was one of the big reasons I got so absorbed in that game.

I think they probably wanted to dissuade you from returning to Zion for narrative reasons, even if they didn't outright bar you from returning like DM does (which would have been cruel, since HH has a lot more loot to cart home, and the player could have easily missed a Survivalist log or other goodie, which I'm sure they took into consideration when allowing the player to return to Zion).

Dead Money's still my all-time favorite DLC (not just in this game, either), but I love HH. I always see Zion as a well-needed vacation from the Mojave, and it's one of the few instances I can think of where an absolute absence of soundtrack is actually beneficial. Doesn't hurt that the Survivalist's journals are my favorite sidestory in the game, and the Survivalist's Rifle is my favorite gun in the game.

Roleplay-wise I usually use it as an excuse to get out of town for a few weeks after doing something illegal, like wiping out the Van Graffs.

I heard Blake at the Crimson Caravan can sell Thermic Lances. He is now one of the most consistent sources of disappointment for me in the game.

Yeah some merchants in the game simply don't restock their wares reliably, and Blake is one of them. On rare occasions he can surprise you, but don't expect to get much out of him beyond what he has in stock the first time you shop with him.

Even though it's painfully obvious in hindsight, I was pretty floored when after years of playing I finally bothered to get an S Rank in treasure hunting, and the reward was the reveal that the four-armed thief is actually a young Gilgamesh.

It's just especially nostalgic for me, that particular typo. Years ago, my first board visits on GameFAQs were to the Sonic Heroes boards, and that was a very common and meme'd on (before the word meme had been co-opted by the denizens of the internet) typo.

This. Within the past couple years my dad reminded me how much he thinks less of my as a person for having played GTA. The only video game we ever played as a family was Mario Kart 64, and even then he once grounded me from it for six weeks for saying 'crap' during a race.

Yeah, at this point I would not go into an MCU Half in the Bag review expecting them to be beaming over it. They were complaining about impending 'Marvel fatigue' way back at the beginning of Phase 3; I think the only MCU movies they were largely positive about since then were Spider-Man: Homecoming and Infinity War.

I'd venture to guess that the pandemic hit their MO pretty hard on several levels; they've maybe gotten a little more bitter since then, but it's hard to blame them all things considered.

I tend to prefer the Re:Views, since they almost always had a positive slant (and it seems like they've been making more of those the past couple years). Jay and Rich actually did The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly recently, which was a pleasant surprise; anything that gets the younger folks aware of media made before 1980 is good in my book.

Pretty sure I had that user tagged as 'posts Stonetoss comics' (and not just the feet comic, the other stuff).

Bronn's a sellsword; he quite literally sells his sword to the person who would give him the most money / advantage.

He also has the single best line in S1. One of a handful of characters who was greatly improved in the show versus the source material.
